By offloading protocol processing, SLIC Technology frees the host CPU for application processing while boosting network throughput and increasing the maximum throughput of any server. The adapter was engineered to resolve server performance bottlenecks induced by conventional adapter architectures including memory traffic, CPU interrupts and PCI traffic. Alacritech's revolutionary SLIC Technology re-architects servers by splitting TCP/IP processing between host-based exception handling and adapter-based hardware-assisted data handling. The technology is significantly more efficient that traditional network interfaces because the host is only managing session-level data rather than managing session and packet data.
