An RS-232 serial port provides for an analog modem failover backup or a dial-up connection.

The FVS338's on-board 266MHz processor with built-in encryption acceleration provides high speed networking for up to 50 simultaneous VPN connections. Using 256-bit AES encryption for the VPN tunnels and Secure Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), the FVS338 also supports IPSec, PPTP and L2TP VPN pass-through functionality for use as part of a client-based remote connection to a larger enterprise VPN and with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for secure remote management capabilities, allows for centralized management of a distributed workforce. The FVS338 adheres to industry standards and is compatible with other major IPSec VPN devices or client software and with any SNMP-based management software, such as the NETGEAR ProSafe Network Management Software NMS100.

The integrated browser-based VPN Wizard interface eases VPN tunnel configuration.
