Anthony Foxx is the Emma Bloomberg Professor of Practice and Co-Director of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. He is also a former United States Secretary of Transportation, a position he held from 2013 to 2017. Foxx served as the chief policy officer and senior advisor to the president and chief executive officer of Lyft, Inc. from October 2018 to January 2022 and served as an advisor to Lyft through the end of 2022.
Previously, Foxx served as the mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, from 2009 to 2013. First elected to the Charlotte City Council in 2005, upon his 2009 mayoral victory he became the youngest mayor in Charlotte’s history and its second African American mayor.
Foxx serves on the board of directors of CDW, Martin Marietta Materials, Inc., and NXP Semiconductors N.V. He also serves on the Advisory Board of AutoTech Ventures and the Board of Directors of The Volcker Alliance. He holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from New York University School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Davidson College.
