Adequate
The DS-740D is a good, small document scanner. We use it bi-weekly to process whatever has accumulated — the occasional health insurance documents (explanation of benefits) and assortment of signed contracts (ex: landscaping). The scanner comes with a USB-A cable. But the end that plugs into the scanner uses

Good, but needs more customizable document sizing.
Been looking for something like this for a long time. After a couple of months of use the only thing on my wish list for this is if it would let you scan longer documents like car loan documents or loan documents. I could not find a setting to customize for much longer document sizes.

I've had the 740D for about 1 month now, I have not used all that much, but so far it's been relatively working well. Couldn't load the Driver
Cannot load the driver on Windows 10 on my desk top computer. I worked with your tech staff and they couldn't get it to work either. BUT, they did tell me to try on another desktop and I was able to load the program. So it is now working...just not on my computer :(

Great Portable Scanner
It is a compact easy to use scanner. The quality of scans for my purpose is very good. Since it is a duplex scanner it saves time not having to turn page over and re-scan. I recommend if you you need a portable scanner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent (but..) I've had the 740D for about 1 month now, I have not used all that much, but so far it's been relatively working well. I love the convenience of it especially the duplex scanning, portability and size. Seems well made. However, I have a few issues with it thus far. Document jams: on a few occasions, when feeding a page, if the scanner doesn't accept the document 100% perfectly, it stops, I then easily remove the page from the feeder. The iPrint app displays the "document jam" error and the only way to continue is to either close the app or unplug the unit from my laptop. Next issue is that seems like the unit is not very generous in accepting paper that is a somewhat heavier stock. Jams frequently. Last minor issue is with the iPrint app. I have a 2nd Brother Multi-function print/scanner connected, so if I decide to use the alternate device when scanning, the drop down menu only shows the current device and not the alternate printer. User must click add device and then takes you back to the devices connected page and choose from there. It's not a major issue but, my viewpoint is what's the point of the device drop-down menu if it only displays the 1 device, although there's 2 connected to the laptop. Mind you, the alternate printer L2710DW is connected both wireless and USB. I briefly procrastinated about returning it but decided that I could live with it. I'll conclude by saying that of all the years I've been using printer scanner technologies, Brother has been definitely the most reliable.

The scanner was smaller than imagined. However, it was easy to set up. Used it to scan a few documents to work and no issues.Took less than 10 minutes to set up and once I connected the scanner to my laptop via USB, I received an alert and the rest was history. It`s a simple device that doesn`t take up a lot of space and the last thing needed on my desk is more clutter.I`m curious how much the scanner cost?

I`m always looking for a way to make my job as an Executive Assistant more efficient. Expense reports can be a time-consuming process with the number of receipts I need to scan per expense report. But, when using this scanner, it made my job much easier! It`s super light and compact, which is much more ideal than normally have to use our large printer/scanner. An old document scanner I had in the past was essentially the same size as a piece of paper (which took up a lot of desk space, but this scanner I can easily store away in a drawer. I like that it connects through a USB and doesn`t have tons of cords to manage. I`m looking forward to using this for other tasks, like scanning old photos!

It was very easy to install and easy to use, especially for people like me who are constantly on the go and don`t always have the option of being by a printer/scanner. I travel a lot with my job so this was perfect and worked great while I was on the go. I`ve used scanners in the past that weren`t as easy or durable and the paper would constantly get caught on the wires but I didn`t have this problem here.

I thought this item was plug and play, but our office computer is a bit old so it didn`t work out that way. The Brother website was set up very well, I had little issue finding the correct drivers to get this scanner working. Our company is currently in a hiring frenzy, so there are a lot of documents to scan in and send around. This scanner would feed drivers licence and other hard plastic documents with ease, and the colors looked amazing. Additionally, it was fast and easy to feed multiple documents into the scanner. The software made editing and saving easy. The price point on this scanner is more than fair for what you can do with it.

Item: Brother DS-740DPhysical: I really enjoyed the physical size the the brother scanner. It`s small and powerful, which gives me the space to store it anywhere and the power to do what I need to do. It is also pretty light which gives me the opportunity to carry it in my bag when I am on the go meeting with my students and clients. Assembly: This scanner was simple to put together. I really enjoyed the fact that I didn`t have to plug anything into the wall, but everything was powered by the micro USB cord that was connected to the computer. The connectivity to connect the scanner to my phone was also an easy process. I could see older populations possibly having a challenge with a product due to their lack of experience with modern day technology. Connivence: I believe this product is extremely convenient for a person like me. As a person who is always on the go working with clients being mobile is something that is necessary. With the size and assembly listed earlier I believe this product is extremely convenient. I would even argue with the easy set up that it`ll be easy to not only scan to my personal computer, but also scan to others if necessary. Lastly the email cloud feature is so convenient Storage: I liked the fact that the scanner has an opportunity for users to save items multiple ways. Not only can you scan items to a phone or computer, one can also utilize a micro SD. Though I would more prone to utilize the phone or computer feature, I believe the micro SD being there is extremely convent. Battery Life: The battery life was just as sated in the manual.

Connected to the network without any issues. It has many features you might expect from large business scanners. The web interface made configuration easy. Fast scanning ability. Saving to the network takes a longer but does work well. Very compact and is ideal for use in small spaces. I would recommend this product to anyone with small scanner needs. All in all a great product.

I have been in search of a mobile scanner for home use similar to the one I use for work. I received this one and am happy to report it has met every need I have for use at home. Our previous scanning capabilities were through our printer and it was very cumbersome and involved several steps. This mobile scanner arrived well-protected and boxed very securely. The only slight hiccup for me was when downloading the software from their website. It was a little confusing when trying to select which software you needed. Once I figured out that, the download was seamless and fast. I was using the scanner within 10 minutes from taking it out of the box. The design of the scanner is very sleek so you could even leave it out and connected if you found yourself scanning frequently. I was most impressed with scanning color documents. The result was extremely crisp! I highly recommend this if you are in the need of a mobile document scanner.

The Duplex Compact Mobile Document Scanner is SUPER!! The set up requires only three steps; plugging in the provided UBS cable, downloading the driver online, and scanning your documents. The scanner is sleek and modern looking, is lightweight and easy to carry, and the scans are legible and sharp. The scanner can easily fit into your laptop bag and is easy on the go. I would highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ONE PAGE AT A TIME and SLOW This scanner only takes one page at a time. So if you have a multipage document, you need to use a PDF editor to merge the files - SMH. It also takes a few seconds to start scanning it's one page input - it's slow. I have an older laptop, but it's not terrible with 32GB RAM and a quad code, 8 thread processor. If one page at a time is OK, the scanner works well. The hardware is solid. The included software is decent. I use XODO to do most of my editing. However, I need to be able to scan more than one page at a time. PROS: solid hardware, no external power supply, very portable, compact, reliable CONS: one page at a time, slow to start scanning page Conclusion: If it would take more than one page, it would be a very solid scanner and value. I believe I got it for ~$100 before COVID

I like that it will scan both sides at the same time and that the software allows adding and deleting pages before saving. Purchased a protective/carrying case off amazon at time of purchase so it's protected and easy to transport.

Big pain point is that there is no way to reset the scanner after it reports a jam. Spent time with customer support but there is no reset short of unplugging the printer. Unfortunate because it as otherwise great scanner.

The scanner comes with a USB-A cable. But the end that plugs into the scanner uses a standard, but very rare USB connection. I wish they had used a more common connector. I use a USB-C based iPad as my daily computing device. I wish this scanner was directly compatible with iPad. I’m not a fan of WiFi models, and would love the convenience of connecting it directly to my iPad. Instead I wait and connect it to a household shared Mac mini when I need to scan things. The scanning software is what I expect from a printer/scanner company. (the bar is very low) It’s not pretty. It’s not intuitive. It works.
