Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unfortunate about lack of Ink Cartridges Unfortunately, the printer is great, but the lack of available support products is terrible. I would not buy anything from the Brother brand because it appears as if the corporation does not care that their customers purchased printers but cannot use them due to lack of black ink cartridges. Can't a software update be done with a work around so the printer can be used without having black ink? I did find some knock-off black cartridges as part of a multi-pack on Amazon. I bought them because I figured a knock-off cartridge is better than no cartridge at all and at least we'll be able to use the printer.

WHAT? a printer w/o ink = no printer. i would not have purchased a Brother product had i known it would be impossible to replace the ink cartridge.

Brother was happy to take my money for this product they clearly don't make anymore. If anyone is reading this, do yourselves a favor and don't purchase this ink. While you're at it, don't buy this printer either. Seems like Brother no longer supports it. Go with a different printer company.

I’ve been looking for ink (LC 401black) for months can find it anywhere. Take this printer off the market and find solutions to help your customers out instead of ripping them off. Don’t even send your automated response cuz it’s just a slap in the face to your consumer. What I suggest is how to fix this problem and compensate your customers cuz your losing them very quickly.

After spending over an hour trying to find this ink anywhere and reviewing the comments on this web page and since the replacement cartridges are more expensive than the printer, when my current ink runs out I am buying a new printer and throwing this in the garbage. Brother should have to buy back every one of the printers that use this ink back immediately.

However, without the ability to find ink for it, it makes a great paperweight. I've even spoken to a Brother representative who told me to check back for ink in a couple of weeks--which was over a month ago and ink is still not available. I work from home, and the inability to print with a brand new printer is disappointing.

Even a pro-rated refund would suffice. I need the refund to purchase another printer that carries the ink it requires to run. Without black ink the printer is basically broken and unrepairable. Could I use the warranty to return the unusable printer for a refund?

Could someone on your team please reply to these inquiries with anything other than "we should get new stock in 2 to 4 weeks?" Like most of the other people on this thread I recently purchased this printer and need to know if I will ever be able to get ink for it? Honesty is the best policy in business and in life. Please just give us some concrete answers.

I decided to purchase a brother printer rather than an HP printer because I like the simplicity and easy of use of the brother. The wifi connect feature works for everyone in the household. However, I am in need of black ink. Where did it go? Please provide a date as to when we can expect black ink to be available and an explanation as to why it can't be purchased. I would hate to have to recycle my brother printer and go buy an HP. Don't make me do it!

These cartridges are typically chipped so the printer can identify them as genuine. DO WHAT CANON DID and ship the dang things without chips. Making sure that people are using genuine Brother cartridges is more important than making sure they're actually able to use their printer? Priorities! Seriously - SHIP THEM WITHOUT THE CHIP. We NEED to be able to print!

I cannot find ink for it anywhere which is incredibly inconvenient for the work I do. I’m so close to just trashing it and buying another printer of a different brand. Give me a date for when the ink will be in stock. ASAP is not an answer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ink only available with subscription It seems they have no problem providing black ink under subscription. The printer is no good without black ink. Subscriptions are way too expensive, i.e., I would pay three times the amount on subscription because they determine the amount they charge by number of pages printed each month and not by when the cartridges need replacing -- therefore if you are on the monthly plan they charge you even if you do not need the replacement.

And today they are STILL saying 2-4 weeks. Where do I send this back to get my refund. If this printer doesn't work without Black ink, Brother, and you can NOT provide Black ink, seems you have an obligation to replace. I'm with Kira - where's my printer that can actually be used. So disappointed, as I have been using Brother printers for more than a decade. Boooooooooo! What will Brother do? Compensate those of us who let you know our beautiful black brick needs ink? THere better be something - Would be a pretty good printer - if the company actually cared to service their product - i.e., provide INK

This is so frustrating and leaves a sour taste in my mouth with brother. And I’ve always been an advocate for this brand. But this has completely ruined that for me. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best advice? Throw copier in the trash Bought MFC-J1010DW copier from Office Max in Dec. 2022. Needed to use it immediately. Shortly realized I needed black ink backups. Offc. Max personnel in January said none in stock, come back April 7. What? Been trying every which way, every source including Ebay for black cartridges. Tried to get my cartridge refilled and was told that it could not be refilled. Arpril 7 came and went, trying multiple times a day every source, in person or online. Placed an online order with Office Depot. Days later they reported still waiting for stock; it has been put on backorder, and would be willing to cancel order. Office Max and no seller should keep this copier on their shelves and they owe every buyer a refund.

No ink available anywhere and, of course, Brother has a lock down on the ability to fill the printer cartridge. This leaves no option other than to buy another printer. The printer will not function without an ink cartridge that has insufficient ink. I am unable to use the scanner to save a document until it can be printed if needed.

I went online and could not find the LC401BK cartridge anywhere. So I visited our local Best Buy, Staples and Wal-Mart stores - none anywhere. But I saw plenty of HP cartridges.. I emailed Brothers and got somewhat of a generic response stating to check back in 4 to 6 weeks. Really!!!! Quiet disappointing and will be leading me to purchase an HP printer once again.

I was fortunate enough to find a cartridge on eBay and another on FB Marketplace. However, the XL black cartridge does not print 200 sheets as advertised. I don't print in large quantities, and 5 weeks later, I'm on my 3rd and last cartridge. And though I contacted support a few weeks ago, there's still no estimate on when cartridges will be available again. I ordered this printer because the previous model lasted for several years, and ink didn't run out quickly. Sometimes it dried up before I could use it all.

I would prefer to purchase brother ink, but since it's going to be a month or more until we can get ink, I'd like to use a refill kit as a workaround until the cartridges I purchased became available. But the brother cartridges, once they think they are empty, the chip won't allow it to be reloaded. Can we have a workaround until we can get ink??

This is so very sad and the company is not really providing any timeline for when the ink will be available. This is my first Brother printer and it will be my LAST Brother printer. This issue speaks volumes about the brand and their lack of customer service and timely response to the demand. Brother…this is poor business.

No black ink for close to half a year now, and Brother CS only supplies the same, lame, stock answer that they care and that the ink will be available soon - heck, can't Brother even take the time to update their stock answer with usable information? I work from home and have had to take my work to local printing facilities. Done with Brother and their unfunctional information. Printer will go in to the dumpster and I'm shopping for another brand.
