Great camera!
Even this camera model is over a decade old but still one of great camera out there!!! Some people reported blurry pictures... well, if you do not know how to take good pictures with the advanced settings, just stick to your smartphones and DSLR/Mirrorless sophisticated equipments are not for you. Need intelligence and skill to use beyond Auto Mode.

Blurry pictures.
Purchased and tried for 7 days. Tried every setting I could find and could not take crisp sharp photos. Used tripod and shutter release. Contacted Canon, no help. I suspect the low pass filter is the culprit. Returned camera. Disappointed with Canon. Have EOS 5D Mark III and am very pleased.

Love this camera
I have been using Canon cameras and lenses since 1980. AE1 Program to New F-1 to 10D to 5D Mark II and now the 5d Mark IV. I haven't been shooting much in the last couple of years, in fact my MKII has less than 5000 clicks. I upgraded because of the increase in MP's, GSP, WI-FI and other improvements. No one will ever move me away from Canon, especially because of the L glass. Best photos I have ever taken were with a FD 85MM 1.2L. Just got this body this week and have only taken a few dozen images, but I love the speed and accuracy of the AF. Tack sharp images. Being a long way from an expert, I love Canon and I love this body. Couldn't be happier. Can't wait to get a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II.

My Two Thumbs Say....
During the Spring of this year, 2024, I bought a new EOS 5D Mark IV from Camera Mall in Ann Arbor, MI. I went on line and saw they had them in stock, so I paid for it in advance and then jumped in my car and drove over 55 miles to pick it up. The thought of owning this camera body was exciting because I'd read so many good things about it, especially since earlier this year in March, I met a professional that was shooting with a 1D. I told him my best camera is a Canon 6D and wondered if the 5D Mark IV was significantly better. He animately said yes! and that I would notice a major difference. After this statement and having read other reviews, I was game to take a chance, especially since I'm not not interested in switching to mirrorless, not even with an adapter. Besides, that's what a cell phone's set up is, right? Plus, I own a Canon SX40 HS bridge camera and a Ricoh-Pentax WG-4 pocket camera. Neither are DSLR but I'm good with those and would rather concentrate on the old mirror DSLR community of photography.
Well, I must say I've had nothing but good things and experiences with this apparatus, even though I paid $500.00 more than the advertised current sale price. My evaluative opinion may not be the best; I consider myself a novice professional. For me, it's just an addictive hobby but I have been paid for my photography (unsolicited) and some of my pictures have been featured in a newspaper. I've paired my shooting with 5 different Canon L lenses and based off of other reviews I've read here on the Canon website, I may be adding the EF 24-70 2.8 L to my lens collection.
So far, I'd say this body has performed well and I'm glad I bought it while the getting is not as good as the RF mirrorless mounts.
My two thumbs say Yes! This camera is well worth the ownership!

Love it!
I waited for this camera to come out for several years. I went from a 60D to the MK4. I’ve had it for about 18 months and I’m truly happy with my purchase. The only complaint I have is that the view finder is small and has to see through. It’s the same one as the 60D, for all the improvements over the MK3 you’d think that would have been one too. My friend just got the new Canon mirrorless camera, I wish/hope there is a way to add that viewfinder onto my MK4. Still an excellent camera but not the best for aging eyes.

High performer with GPS
For me the 5D IV is an upgrade to my 6D and T6s. I do a lot of travel , documentary, landscape and sometimes macro photography. The boost in resolution to 30 MP is great, the dynamic range is much better over the 6D. The built in GPS works great (for me it is very important function) and also the touch screen is fantastic, I got spoiled very quickly ....
I did shoot a few 4k video clips and it works great, I don't understand the complaints about it ????
I am very happy with the camera, feels like is built well.

Sharp, Sharp, Sharp!
Keep in mind I could care less about video. I have taken this camera out for 3 quick shoots this week. I have tested in low light and shooting birds and nature. My favorite subject is wild horses and I've not had an opportunity to use it in that arena yet. I shoot all manual in raw and find it lets in more light than my 5D Mark III. It took a bit of getting used to different ISO settings. Birds shot with 100-400L II are nice and sharp and I'm very happy with the results. Can't wait for ACR to support this camera as I've been opening files with Canon software and converting to .tiff for use in Lightroom. That's an extra step that is time consuming.

Huge Upgrade for me from the 6d
Had been holding out on buying the 5d4 and now I'm wondering why I waited so long to upgrade. Not the best for me in terms of video and the bulk of the body and low battery life also takes away from it, but for photos, the upgrade for me on the autofocus points and touch screen follow focus is worth every penny for me.

I am an old school Photographer, I started with a old canon film camera and 8 lens that I got used. As my company grew I brought two F1 with drivers. For Movies I went to Canon XL1. I always used the right camera for the job. I moved into Digital with a 50D then 7D and 7DII with drives. Joined CPS and got loans on lens,5DS,5DSR and found that the 5Dmk 4 is better for non studio Pro Work, for me. The camera is quick sharp dependable user friendly, with loads of new tech built in. When I release the shutter button I know what I have. There has been two firmware upgrades since I got my first and it gets better. The upside is off the chart, but if you want a one size fits all, it may not be for you.

upgrade from MK III did not disappoint at all!
I had been suggested to try Canon's refurbished options as they were still reliable products at a reduced price. Everything is as expected, works perfectly fine, and the upgrades from the MK III are incredible! It seems like every aspect of the camera has been upgraded. My two favorite upgrades are the 120 FPS@720 for video and higher dynamic range for photos. Totally recommend!

Ignore the 1 Star (or 2 star) reviews! it's SUPER
I've used the 5D MK4 extensively since I purchased it. I've had a few Rebels in the past and a 70D before the 5D MK4. They all were pleasing. I loved the 70D. My change to the 5D was to experience a Full Frame device. Yet, the 5D MK4 impresses me every time it's in my hands. I have pressed the shutter release thinking, 'that shot's gonna turn out awful,' and WOW it didn't!
I can only say those who complain about awful focus and a pantheon of other issues, I believe they ought to spend some more time reading the manual. (I believe perhaps they've pushed a button or two that they did not know it's function). I have a very difficult time taking a bad picture.
Some have complained about 4K files being large. Of course they are! 4K resolution isn't obtained by data compression. It's ONLY by the great increase in file size that allows 4K resolution.
The WiFi is just super, just like the 70D. Super easy to use with a tablet, phone or desktop. I personally can't live without it.
If you're undecided about the 5D MK4 due to some negative reviews, ignore them. I did and am greatly pleased.

Everything I expected and more!
I have owned the original 5D and the 5d mark III. This 5D mark IV Really raises tha bar on performance. The image quality improvement is immediately noticeable. The focusing is also a significant improvement over the others. I bought it so I could have 61 point autofocus at F8 and the other upgrades added a TON of icing to this cake. The wireless smart phone interface is something I thought I would never use but now that I have it, I believe I'll end up relying on it pretty heavily, at least for the remote shutter release. There are just so many useful features and improvements added to the mark IV over the mark III that I can't give high enough praise to this new 5D! Get it. You won't be sorry.

Great camera
I've had the camera for just over a month, and what an improvement in image quality over the 6d (which I still own. I really like the touchscreen shooting while in live view too. Wish it had an articulating screen, or a screen that at least popped out for low angle shots. I'm a little disappointed that I had to upgrade to the 5d4 because the 6d2's sensor was not on par with it. Was really looking forward to buying that camera. I do notice the improvement with the camera's focusing system compared to the 6d, but it's probably a little overkill for my style of shooting since I only shoot landscapes primarily. All in all I'm pretty satisfied with the camera. Even with getting a discounted refurb, it was still more money than what I wanted to spend, but I'm happy. Hoping to use the camera for many years to come.

A good improvement...
I'm puzzled by the poor reviewers - my guess is they misunderstood this camera and why would you even bother comparing to the 5Ds series?
After renting the MKIV it was a matter of hours and it was purchased.
• Good ISO performance
• Fast focusing
• very good image quality
• gret shutter not loud at ALL! even in normal mode and feels solid
• Excellent at weddings
And all the new features of touch screen is very nice and easy to use.
The MKIV out does the Sony is far from good for event i.e wedding etc where as the MKIV is a far better performer all round. And honestly who really is shooting highre than 6400 ISO and why? Point being in the right hands this is a very good camera
with great image quality, speed and performance.
I understand if it does not meet video requirements to some, but in my world I could care less if it did and if I were Canon I would just make the 5D series (all of them ) strictly photography only and save me a dollar or two by eliminating any video.
Just my thoughts as a PHOTOGRAPHER - incidentally we let a videographer try it at a wedding and they were unexpectedly impressed.
We tested the latest Sony, the Pentax K-1 and the MKIV and the only camera that handled all aspects of an 8 hour wedding day was the Canon.

Amazing tool
As a wedding photographer for 6 years, having shot both Canon and Nikon extensively, this camera is a very welcome update to Canon's lineup.
The high iso performance is very, very good, with ISO 3200 nearly indistinguishable from ISO 100 unless you're peeping at 100%. 6400 is exceptionally clean as well, retaining good color and dynamic range. Even 12,800 looks surprisingly good. With some noise reduction 32,000 is even usable.
Aside from the extra features like the touch screen, video, and extra buttons and button mapping options, the autofocus system has so far been the best I've used from any brand. It's very fast, the side focus points don't hesitate, and it's accurate. As a big fan of Nikon's "3D focus", I'm happy to say that Canon's ITR performs nearly as well. This type of focus mode has been incredible beneficial for event photography and has become a favorite mode for many situations.
And last, the extra resolution is very nice to have. You can apply noise reduction more aggressively when needed and still come out with a sharper photo than with lower resolution cameras.
Easily the most versatile professional DSLR on the market.

Superior Camera
I rented this camera to compare it with the 5DMII. My wife has the 5DMIII and I wanted to test drive it as I am due for an upgrade. I love the camera that my wife has as it's a vast improvement to mine so I was expecting more with the MIV. It did not disappoint! The new focusing, Digic 6+ processor speed, more mega pixels, touchscreen........ all what I love about this camera and I didn't even explore the many other features! I uploaded some shots. One of a bird in the rain, another before the rain, the clouds before the rain and a long exposure and an hdr 7 exopure. This camera blew away my 5DMII. The 5DMIV is the camera to get. All those NA sayers don't know how to use a camera, software, or computer to get the most out or your shots. I say to them: Read the manual, learn and you too can appreciate the features this camera has! enough said.....

We've been shooting this camera body for about a month now & are very happy with the purchase. Coming from the Mark III bodies, it awesome being able to throw this right into the workflow. We've shot full page magazine spreads for food magazines, product photography, and lots of portraits. The new live view mode with touch screen operation has completely changed the game with our food photography. Tomorrow we're photographing Alice Cooper in Chicago, we're very confident in the quality & reliability of this body.

Second review,I endured the bad reports about the MK4 but as I said before the Mark4 is now shown to be off the chain. My first Mark 4 did not have C Log but I sent it in to be installed, my new one has C Log installed. As I said in my first review new updates would come and now many are doing great work with C Log. From the transition from film to Digital the Canon Work horses have never let me down. I see great color and sharpness in my pictures. In my first review my last statement was," the upside for the MK4 is off the chart, but if you want a one size fits all, it may not be for you. The 2 problems I have with the camera from a video standpoint are the 4k file size ( lower in firmware please) & the crop in 4K mode (not that big of a deal for me).... with that being said, the camera is well build and packed with massive amount of cool functions in it....Did I tell u guys the camera comes with a HDMI/USB cable protector?!! I love this camera!
I upgraded from the MarkII (wasn't quite ready to upgrade when the III first came out, then decided to wait for the IV). This thing is a BEAST in low-light. I shot a concert and came away with usable images at 32k ISO (not something I'd regularly rely on, but the fact they were usable is a feat to be sure). At 12k ISO the shots were as if I shot at 3200 on MKII. It hit focus on subjects in almost total darkness. The nice bump in resolution is welcome also, I'm happy it's not too huge though as I don't burn through memory as much. Maybe it's not totally worth the upgrade form the III, but the WI-FI and beautiful, sharp, vivid touch screen alone might make it worth it. I don't do video with it, so I really couldn't care less about that.

Disapointed
The 5D Mark IV cannot even compete with A7RII and D810, which were released long long ago and are cheaper. 5D4 has less pixels, worse dynamic range and higher price. 5D4 still has the low pass filter, which is really out of date, and the sharpness will be worse then competitors.
The 4K video is not usable. It only supports mjpeg codec, and a 1 hour's video uses over 220GB storage. It also crops the image in video shooting, so you need to change lenses when switching from still to video.
The dual pixel raw doesn't really help. The adjustments are so limited. See the review by DPReview. Not only it doubles the file size, but also stops you from using your lighteoom or PhotoShop workflow.
The only improvement I recognize is the usability, like GPS, WIFI and touch screen. However, competitors have in body stabilization and so on, which are more important.
This camera doesn't worth this amount of money.

Anti-Flicker FTW!!!!!
I bought this camera as a replacement for my 6D primary full frame DSLR. I was not disappointed. My main complaint with all digital cameras is taking action shots under sports venue lighting. My Sonys and prior Canons were just too inconsistent. The 5D Mark IV has anti-flicker technology though... This will save me COUNTLESS HOURS of post-processing! I love it!

Extremely versatile!
Having utilized Canon professional cameras for over 40 years, I can tell you that I am extremely impressed with the EOS 5D Mark IV. The camera is extremely versatile. The camera has the ability to work in extremely low light. The colors that are produced are vivid and have great depth. If you take scenic photos or portraits, studio or outdoors, this is the camera for you.

I just received today. Photo's appear amazing on screen. ISO appears superior to 5D Mark III, editing software awful, black lines when taking video if slightly dark. Very disappointed with black streaking lines across screen.

Great Addition to 5D Series
I bought the 5D Mark IV to use in addition to my Canon 5DS R. My 5DS R is the ultimate high-res DSLR stills camera with 50.6 megapixels of resolution but the 5D Mark IV has better low light, improved auto focus (including Dual Pixel AF for LV), built in GPS, Wi-Fi and better high ISO capabilities plus at 30 megapixels it's a solid improvement over either my 5D Mark II or a 5D Mark III . Granted, the 5D Mark IV isn't the strongest DSLR for video but my work is more stills oriented and for me it's a great addition. The menu layout is nearly identical to my 5DS R and with the added Wi Fi adapter for my 5DS R, I can easily work with either camera using my iPad with the Canon Camera Connect app. If you're a 5D III owner, the 5D IV is not a revolutionary upgrade like moving from the 5D to the 5D Mark II but there are many solid improvements that make it good choice.

Live it
This is my first full frame camera and have enjoyed it so far. There is a steep learning curve as compared to my initial Canon t1i but I find that it's not that difficult and a lot of the additional features make photography easier. Looking forward to taking some landscape photography once I get a good EF lens.

Leaving everyone behind
I remember the hue and cry when Mark iii came. In the Prosumer age, it is good to voice your opinion, but from XL1 to now Canon knows are needs way ahead of time and jn advance. Once again rumors- of this and that. Listen if you tell me a mirrorless camera is as good as hi-range sensor camera than I would tell you that iPhone 7 Plus is as good as mirrorless cam with much less hassle and way more cheaper.
Long story short- I love the real cinematic 4K of Mark iv. It is a giant leap forward in every sense of the word. I was sick of Magic Lantern and the attitude of developers with endless process hassle- when I should be spending time with my creativity.
The touch screen has changed the DSLR game forever. I love the way you can rack without having to trust your eyes or focus puller or even the LCD. Charismatically accurate. My life has just improved dramatically as my job has improved tremendously while I have to put less effort in tech and more time for art.
Big thumbs up. There is no better cam for those who want still and video at a time- I guess today everyone wants it. No specialist videographers or photographers anymore. At least you can't earn a living or run a kitchen just doing one.
Thanks Canon for so much fun.

Beautiful Upgrade
Spent the last four days comparing the Mark IV side by side to the Mark III, and I'm blown away. The low light capabilities are amazing, creating useable images at 16000 ISO. Focus is amazingly fast in low light, and the new shutter and mirror motion is quiet and smooth. Adobe released the read software for the Mark IV today, almost a week faster than the 7D Mark II.

I am going to counter what others have stated
Love the camera. I found it initially overwhelming with all the various features. It has taken a little bit of time to get used to, but the pictures are gorgeous. I have taken thousands of action photos (diving and swimming). My biggest "con" about the camera is that the servo speed is so fast it overwhelms writing to the cards and as such I have missed some pictures. I believe I have the fastest SD and CF card in the camera. Other than that I appreciate very much Canon incorporating existing battery technology into the camera. It was nice that I didn't have to buy all kinds of new accessories. The battery power lasts a long time as well. I'll update again after I have had the chance to dive into the camera and learn more. The price was a bit daunting but I took the plunge and so far it has been worth it.
PS - This is not a paid review. I have owed Canon equipment since the 1980's when I was in high school as the yearbook photographer using a AE-1 and then an AE-1 program - printing thousands of rolls of film, push processing night images and storing many photo albums.

I updated from a MKIII and am very pleased with the improved sensor size, live screen focus and operation, GPS, WiFi and other features. I don't really understand why some knock the video. If I wanted a full featured video camera, I'd have bought one. I would only occasionally use this DLSR for video, but not to shoot a full-length movie by any means. That's what the D-series is for.

An amazing Camera
Spent more than a year considering a move to a Full Frame camera; reading all the pro's and con's, and also the many, many opinions. Looked at the 6D for some time, but decided on the 5D Mark IV. Very happy with this choice. Love the flexibility and many options that it provides. This weekend I'll be taking it - for the first time - to my granddaughter's gymnastics competition. Anxious to see its performance in less than optimum light settings.

Most Versatile DSLR I've Ever Used
Purchased this Canon EOS 5D Mk IV barely a month ago, and now I can't stop carrying it to any venue where I might even remotely suspect a picture might be desired (either by myself or for friends, or just because I like using this camera so much). Now I look for any excuse to take pictures.
A little history: I borrowed and tried other brands along with Canon before making purchases and resuming my photography hobby just over a year ago with a new Canon T5i. I outgrew that in a couple months and found a very-low-shutter-count Canon EOS-1Ds Mk III, and its full-frame viewfinder optics were like “coming home” for this old man who used to shoot when 35mm wet-film cameras were still widely used. Still, it was tough to get good images during indoor sporting events that prohibit flash. After several months of searching, I tried the Canon EOS 5D Mk IV.
The Canon EOS 5D Mk IV is the answer, for me at least. I’m so pleased with the low-light capability of this DSLR camera body. My EF 28-300mm IS L and EF 100-400mm IS L lenses gain the new-found ability (for me) to be used free-hand with no monopod or tripod during indoor concerts without a flash. Canon's noise reduction at high ISO numbers amazes me; when I first selected ISO 25,600, my first thought was "Oh, this is just for advertising; it can't possibly shoot a decent image at such a high ISO selection." Well, I can say the resulting images are still truly usable! The AWB (automatic white balance) easily beats my ability at managing it manually (I may eventually gain greater skill at selecting white balance color temperatures, but for now, AWB is what I use most of the time, happily).
My EF 28-300mm IS L stays attached to this 5D Mk IV about 95% of the time, it's a true "go-to and do most things combination" for me. Yes, it's definitely a heavy setup, but Canon’s BG-E20 grip assists controllability marvelously. Freezing motion with excellent clarity during flash-prohibited indoor sporting events is more easily attainable, and I'm no longer hampered by dark frames due to indoor 120Hz lighting flicker here in most of the Americas (this EOS 5D Mk IV can also take care of this in the many, many countries that use 50Hz power, ergo, the resulting 100Hz flicker of some indoor lighting power supplies).
7 FPS continuous shooting is easily enough for my sporting event uses, the touch screen is very intuitive, and I appreciate the high ISO performance. Nice images from my EOS-1Ds Mk III are 75% Canon, 25% me. Very, very nice images from my EOS 5D Mk IV are 90% Canon, 10% me. :-) I just love when technology makes me look like I'm doing a better job taking pictures.

Exceptional Stills Camera, Average for Video
The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV finally comes close to catching up to the Sony A7RII and Nikon D810 when it comes to dynamic range for stills. I can underexposure an image by 2-3 stops to preserve highlights and easily bring the shadows up in post while adding very little noise. Compare this with any previous Canon DSLR and you'll know that you cannot increase shadows on Canon cameras without a mess of colored speckles everywhere.
The low-light capability of the Mark IV is also exceptional - beating the Sony A7RII and Nikon D810 - but only for stills. Surprisingly, the clean high-ISO capability does NOT transfer over to the video side. When shooting 4k video at ISO 3200 the noise is worse than it is on the 5D Mark III. and ISO 6400 is almost unusable on the Mark IV (video mode) whereas it's very usable on the 5D Mark III.
So while everyone complains about the 1.74x crop factor, Motion JPEG codec, and huge memory cards needed - my only complaint is the poor low light ability in video mode. Maybe this is something that Canon can correct in a firmware update, but I suspect it isn't.

Big Step up!!
I'm moving up from a 70D to my first full frame camera. I loved the 70D, it was feature packed, and produced excellent photos! I started moving to L lenses as I was looking to get a 6D Mark II (whenever it comes out, but was surprised by the release of the 5D Mark IV.. This is a totally different camera for me. No built in flash, no extra reach with the crop factor, no articulating screen, bigger and heavier.. But the build quality is there .. it's solid and can be easily felt by just picking up the camera. The touch screen made the transition so much easier, as I loved that feature on the 70D. The menus are familiar (except there's probably three times as many). Now I'm just an enthusiast, but the pictures I get from this camera are outstanding! The focusing is super fast, plus there are many, many more focusing options. My stills are fantastic, corner to corner ... excellent color and super, super sharp!! Low light photos are better and there's less noise at higher ISO's which is very impressive. I'm still learning to use the many features of the camera and shot with a 5D Mark III once .. so I knew what I was getting into. I never did much video, but maybe with the 4k, I'll do more. It's a big step for someone like me .. but I feel it was worth every penny.

Best Canon body to date!
Please disregard the ridiculous 1 and 2 star reviews below from amateurs and/or overzealous fans of other vendors. I have owned all the previous 5D bodies and can easily say that this is by far the most capable one yet, both from a quality and features perspective. To have the GPS, Wifi, touchscreen and other build in features is very helpful, but it is really the great sensor that is the shining star with the Mk IV. The new sensor design has lead to much better noise performance in the shadows as well as improved dynamic range. This is a perfect all-around camera to complement my 5DsR for studio and landscape work.

Sharp images and great low light shooting.
Upgraded my 7D to the 5D Mark IV. I shot with the Mark III for a few months as my friend let me borrow it while he went military. Mark IV sensor seems to be doing a better job as the images look sharper than the Mark III. Low light shooting is defiantly a ton better! Have not played with the video recording yet, but I am looking forward to 4k shooting. I see a few negative reviews regarding this camera. I really don't understand what they are complaining about. If you want to record videos get a video camera. This is still a DSLR and its main focus is capturing photos.

"Takes a licking and keeps on ticking"
I have had my 5D MIV for 3 years. Recently I was out shooting night shots of Dallas, TX. I was placing the camera on the tripod. I stepped away. and watch camera fell to the ground. My 24-70mm f2.8 II hit the ground first. When I picked it up the lens hood broke the fall as it hit the ground. Panic set in but the only damaging was my UV filter was in tiny pieces on the ground. There were no scratches, no dent and the hood was fine. I check the body not a scratch on it. The camera fell about 5 feet. The final test was will it work or was there internal damage. The attached image is testament to the fact that it worked great. The 5D Mark IV has been a great camera. I highly recommend it based in the images it produces and the quality of the workmanship.

Excellent - Upgrade from 5D Mark II to Mark IV
Purpose: Portrait, Street, and Landscape Photography
Other Cameras Owned: Rebel SL1 for travel and casual photos
Previously Owned: 5D Mark II & Rebel t2i
Important to Note: Canon Log or C-Log as it is known will be available in July for 5D Mark IV for video grading. It is true that the 4K file sizes are enormous in any camera for sure but this camera certainly. You may need to get new SD cards, new computer, new software, new monitors and the list goes on-- again for any 4K camera. It crops the image in 4K which people complain about but many expensive video cameras crop as well (RED to name one).
OK-- Enough about video. This camera is meant for taking stellar stills.
Why I didn't get the Sony A7RII or A9: #1 That darn electronic viewfinder, A7RII slow to write to card which is not useable professionally, already owned several Canon lenses which yes you can use with the Sony. Actually looking at side-by-side comparison between the two cameras, there is very little noticeable difference in quality of the photos. Canon color is superior straight out of the camera which saves time for me and the 5D Mark IV allows previous Canon users to feel immediately at home. Additionally the build quality of these cameras is superior. I dropped my Mark II once on Castle stone in New England, camera remained almost completely unscathed aside from a scratch.
What I love about the new 5D Mark IV compared to Mark II:
- It's just a joy to use and produce content with. Makes me and my clients happy.
- Autofocus improvements are enormous. Using Live View, and touch screen to focus has been much more helpful than originally imagined. Face tracking is very very good.
- Low-light capability is improved
- Pictures are that much sharper with modest increase in MP. Remember guys & gals, if you're pictures ain't sharp with this bad boy it's probably not the camera, make sure you're using a fast shutter speed and fast lens if you don't have IS.
- WiFi & GPS are actually very nice additions which I didn't really care about when I bought the camera. The WiFi tethering aside from being able to see photos quickly on my iPad (no need for WiFi network can tether directly to smartphone) and also allows me to set-up a live viewing table for guests to view the photos of the night as they're taken!
- I finally stopped being stubborn and used the EOS Utility software which I never used on my Mark II. Features some good additions for the Mark IV such as GPS logging (shows path explored) as well as saving preset metadata for your photos etc.
Now, while I would like every camera to have 50MP, amazing low-light, 5000 focus points, etc. we have to remind ourselves that Canon does need to make a profit somewhere and at some point you gotta ask yourself how many MP and focus points do you really need. The 5D Mark II even though its almost 10 years old is still a phenomenal camera. Advertising at work.
Cons: Price but I will say that you can make back the money you spent with this thing if you are using it professionally. If you are not using it professionally and money is a big issue check out some more reasonable cameras where the quality is almost just as good. 6D Mark II should be coming out soon. 6D is a great camera while price is low. Even the Rebel SL1, t7i etc. are phenomenal cameras.
If you have the money, are debating between Canon, Nikon, and Sony, and don't want to have to worry about being gentle with a $3K-$5K camera set-up like with Sony, just buy this thing, its just a great camera.

Definite Upgrade from 5D Mark III
I admit it took me over a year to be convinced to bite the bullet on my 5D Mark IV. I’d had the 5D Mark III since it was released and truly loved it. When my nephew became seriously interested in photography and was showing true potential I decided to pass down my lovely camera and try this “newish” update. For me, it is like Canon answered my wish list from my Mark III:
1. Dynamic range. The IV definitely brings things out of the dark WAY cleaner than the III. No more banding!
2. Autofocus. Trust me this is significantly improved on the IV. Maybe others received bad bodies?
3. Live view shooting. Holy Cow!!! It’s not even funny how bad the III was at this. Now they just need to make it pop out so we can REALLY take advantage.
4. Touch screen. I love that I can pass this to my sons to touch to focus/activate shutter. Brilliant!!
5. GPS and WI-FI. I’ve actually used the remote shutter quite a lot!! In theory this could replace the pop out lcd but it’s still too fiddly. I do love having my photos tagged with location as we travel a bit.
6. Image Quality. Overall, I’m so happy with the image quality on the IV. Just notice the difference when comparing my old images to the current ones. Well hopefully I’ve improved too, so maybe it’s a combination? :-)
7. Time-Lapse. Not many comment on this but I’ve been having a BLAST with this! Not just gimmicky. Really happy with this addition!!
Gripes (because nothing is perfect!):
1. Build quality. This IV feels slightly less BRICK like than my III did. Already notice a little strand of rubber sucking up off of the main dial. Made in Japan must not mean what it used to. Will see how it holds up. I do think it could have been better!
2. Although I’m pleased with dynamic range, I think the innovation demonstrated by Sony and Nikon is showing us what the potential out there really is. I love my Canon lenses and the look and color, but it’s pretty obvious to the world that we are not leading the pack in terms of innovation. I do believe Canon will deliver in the future though. Right Canon???
3. Fixed LCD. This is a no-brainer. If you can provide this on others, why not this one?? Please don’t do this just to convince people to upgrade for a later camera that does have it.
4. I don’t have much to add to the 4K video conversation. Don’t shoot much video.
Hope this helps those of you still considering a jump from the III to the IV. It is definitely a WORTHY upgrade and has made a huge difference in my end results. A tool is a tool and it’s up to the user to add the art, but why not have the best tool??

Two bodies failed
I bought two cameras last year in July, the first one in less than 3 months began to fail the focus in addition to blocking itself by stopping working having to be removing the battery. The second one has recently failed to read the meter, and AV has problems with the shutter speed. Being a camera of that range there is no right to fail, much less the 2 of them.

I love my upgrade form the MK III to the MK IV
I'm usually an early adopter to new diet and it only took me a few hours of reviews to upgrade from my MK III to the MK IV - I've owned the MK III for just over three years and thought this would be my last for many years to come but with the enhanced pixels, the wifi and GPS made it worth the additional cost.
I'm looking forward to getting out in the field to give this a good working over
I don't do movies, but from what I see it would do good enough for me, and the large file formats don't worry me as disc space is cheap these days, and an additional battery or two is worth the investment if I decide to spend more time taking movies rather than stills
Yes, agree a little expensive over the other makes of the same features, but I've invested in the Canon glass, so this is a natural upgrade for me

Big dissapointment
Have been a professional canon shooter for many years. Was wauting eagerly for the update as it was long overdue and I had high hopes.
Unfortunately I will not be upgrading as I feel Canon has completely lost touch with their customers and are releasing second rate dated tech. I have no problem with marketing strategies to make more money but at least give us something that holds up in the current market. Sad to leave Canon but enough is enough.

Ignore 1 star reviews from an ameteur & NON OWNER
I bought this after owning all previous versions including the Mark III. It has moved their product forward significantly. The built in WiFi has worked great. I do not have a reason to use the GPS. My work is done in a studio and works great with my Profoto equipment.

The Rolls Royce of cameras
Hard to say what I like most. But the overall impression of this camera now after 6 months is great. Fantastic photos come out of it and more important, I know how to use it since all menus are logical. Ergonomic as well and just does what I want it to do (my wife might be a Nikon... so VERY happy with my purchase. Not cheap (wife again...) but with the service and support that comes with the camera I am extremely happy. Have some 8 lenses so kind of locked in to the Canon system but I actually tried other brands as well but always come back to simplicity=canon. Well done. I can add that I did send in the camera for a c-log upgrade but have not used it yet but will in June.

5D Upgrade
I bought this camera to update and supplement my EOS Digital system from my original 5D, for the benefits of improved image size, image quality, the new focusing system the built-in GPS and a few more minor changes. This camera will be my main stay camera for my pending Alaska/Canada cruise tour. Having taken it on the road to run it through its paces, I have found it easy to adjust to. I am still learning the finer aspects of the improvements, but it feels natural in my hands like an old friend.

Impressive Performer
I pre-ordered the 5D IV from Canon; having previously been using crop sensors, ie. 7D and 7D II, wanted to try a full frame; and from the pre-release spec sheets, appeared to be a good time to do so.
I have been impressed with the results.
The file sizes are huge, however the results are worth it; even with heavy crops (due to lack of 1.6 crop factor), the images are sharper, have better color rendition, more detail, and are usable at even higher iso's than the 7D II when shooting wildlife; only lagging slightly on locking focus (which could be user indhced).
I am also pleased with the performance in other situations; re: event, landscape, and portrait for the same reasons mentioned above.

Amazing camera!
Getting the perfect picture can often be very difficult, however the Canon 5D Mark IV can make it so much easier. The camera is used by many professional sports photographers, having a 30 to 1/8000 shutter speed makes it easy to capture that perfect motion shot. Whether taking pictures on a beautiful hike or at a baseball game, this camera can capture an amazing shot. The Canon 5D Mark IV EOS successfully captures the beauty of a moment with a shutter speed of 30 to 1/80000 which is an amazing quality in the use of capturing in-motion pictures. This amazing camera can take 900 photos per battery, ensuring that it won’t die on the move. . The camera also has dual memory card capability, giving the ability to take as many pictures as wanted. Another amazing quality produced by canon with this camera lens that comes with it. The zoom capacity makes for beautiful, clear, and high-quality shots. The zoom capability of the camera is 70-300mm, perfect for long distance shots. This camera was released in 2016, and although many people say that it is not worth the price, all the amazing qualities, along with the items provided with the camera, make the high price worth paying. This amazing canon camera has many amazing qualities. The camera comes with two lenses, a flash connector for the top, a microphone for high quality videos, and many other items. The Canon 5D Mark IV is also user friendly, so even without camera experience, it is easy to use for that perfect picture.

NOT HAPPY with the Performance of the CANON 5D Mark IV
where do I start??
1. (Camera Freezing Only used this one 1 day
Shooting the camera on One shot. I have better control over my camera vs. shooting on High Speed continuous.
The camera froze up on me during my first day shooting with it, not once but 3 times i didn't have my primary camera which is the 5D Mark III. The 5D mark iii camera has never locked up on me ever. I was running a fast CFCard on the Mark IV, so there no excuse but the camera. I had to turn the camera off and on to get the camera working again.
2. (Battery) The camera has an issue taking off brand LPE6N batteries. It would bring up a screen that says "is this a Canon battery"
(yes) (no) if you say no the camera turns off, if you say yes then the camera will work but won't give you a reading of the battery life. The camera has to have the "official blue back batteries."
3.(ISO isn't true to what it is) I shoot events in a low light settings. I have to crank up the ISO on my cameras. The only event i shot with this camera is a location I've shot before. I know the settings of what i need to shoot at.. The ISO had to be pushed much higher then what it was suppose to be at. I know my Mark iii and the ISO would have been much lower then the Mark iv.
The camera currently has over 13000 images of the one day of shooting.. yes that many images. Yes that many... why? because that's what the job required of me to shoot. My 5D Mark iii has over 230,000 images and it was recently serviced for the shutter. Not becasue it needed it but because I asked the customer service rep if i should or not. It didn't need to be service.
The company from whom I bought it from will remain nameless but they refused to take the camera back. They said quote " We don't rent cameras, We sell them"
My intention was to keep it from the get go, never to return it. But Ican't even get a refund because it has too many accuations and I don't want it. I can't sell it at its full price because it's used.. So I'm screwed out of out of my money

Please release EYE AF firmware for this camera
Good Camera, decent colors but misses focus few times specially when using 85MM 1.2L or Sigma f1.4 50mm when shooting portraits. Please release firmware update with EYE Autofocus firmware update to this camera so it will be meaningful for the huge money spent on this camera. Also request to update firmware to remove CROP when shooting 4k video. Wish canon is listening and update firmware with EYE AF with this camera.

Pretty Disappointed
I am a professional wedding photographer and bought this camera last December. I started having major focusing problems in April which continually got worse and started missing focus MORE often than not. Sent it in to get fixed along with my 24 - 70 lens. They repaired the lens but the focus problem remains with the 5d. Super bummed and not sure where to turn but I will not be repurchasing.

TOP Dog

Focus on this camera is bad!
I bought it for low light photography, northern lights, milky way, night scenic landscapes, etc., but returned in within first 30 days.
I did saw reviews on Focus not working well, but once I experienced it myself, I finally understood those reviews.
I always have 2 cameras with me so that I cannot change lenses in the field and get the dust problem, one for wider angles the other for zoom. My cameras are Mark 5DSR, but because of low light necessity I went for this model.
The first Northern Lights night in Lofoten and could not focus, both automatic and manually. There was a light house far on the ocean, that I had no issues focusing with my 5DSR, but not this one, I did try manually and disappointed with the results. That round of Northern Lights photos were lost, luckily I had my second 5DSR with me, so I switch lenses, and two hours later I went for another Aurora Borealis display, this time the photos were fine. That night I went right away to my computer and started the return form with B&H, so when I got home a week later I dropped it in the mail.
Something not right with the Focusing System on this camera. Manufacturer be aware!

I got this when the pandemic started so I could spend more time social distancing while doing wildlife photography. It is definitely an upgrade from my t3i (that still works and is decent . This does better in low light which I like and I like the focus settings that you can change . For my shots i do use a Sigma 600mm lens though and not canon just because it's cheaper.

Enjoying the challenge
I have had the 5D mk IV for just ten days. So far, I am impressed. I am a very good amateur photographer. I started digital photography with the 40D and advanced to the 7D mk II. I still use the 40D and can not get enough of the 7D mk II, but I am gaining years quickly now and wanted the experience of a full frame camera. I know I do not need the 5D, for I do not understand 2/3rd's of its capability, but this is my hobby and I want the experience of a camera that keeps me learning something new every day.

The Mark IV has always been expensive...and greatly talked about how good this full framer is! No one dislikes it and gives it high marks for optical quality and with plenty of useful features. I find it not too heavy for a FF. It is built well also. Purchased at Christmas and was at a price I could not resist, much lower than listed with anyone, B&H or Adorama.

Recently purchased this camera and I absolutely love it! Granted I replaced my 5D classic with this camera but none the less the quality of the photos it captures is great. The high iso capability is great for dark event rooms and I haven’t had any focusing issues in low light situations yet. The battery life is great and I can get through an entire reception on 1 battery and still have power to spare. This camera is also packed full of settings and features. Canon really went all out on this camera. If you are a canon user, you absolutely need to have this camera in your bag.

My second 5D IV after the first was stolen.
Bought in 2018, got dunked in the Pacific Ocean while on a Milky Way shoot, Aug 2020. Canon sent it back as unrepairable. Well, it turned on out of the box, and itt worked perfectly for close to 2 years....Now, it doesn't turn off after the selected time and will drain the batteries. It might have actually ruined two batteries. Now, I turn it off when not shooting, and only use my oldest, weakest batteries. It's a backup now to my R5.. any additional time I get out of it will just be a bonus!

mediocre autofocus
I bought this as a replacement for my 40D. Pictures are great when it achieves good focus, which is about 50% of the time. Ive tried adjusting with the micro autofocus adjustment which worked for a week or so however it is out of sharp focus again.

Perfect
This is the second 5D Mark 4, they work great and very durable. My photography genre is all over the board, but this camera is right by my side. I definitely would recommend it.
