Rated 5 out of 5 by from This camera is just right Have owned this camera for several months now. After learning the control placements and working with fine tuning the adjustments, I can not imagine a finer camera. I already own a decent range of Canon glass, both EF (on adaptor) and RF. The results are just what I am looking for. If I do not get the shot it is on me as I now have the equipment capable of doing what I need. Getting more comfortable with the capabilities of the R7 will no doubt bring more and better better images. For years I have ignored the disappointing video capabilities most cameras offered. Not any more. This camera does a wonderful job, even in sketchy light. More work on my technique will be needed but the camera can do it. I tend to shoot from a distance, invisible and in the background, so I do not influence my subjects behavior. I will also photograph smaller subjects from fairly close up. The flip out rear screen is bright and something I will not do without. The auto focus is beyond belief in difficult situations at a distance. Think a bird among thick shady branches of a tree at 400mm handheld. It can find an eye I can only guess at. Telephotos are my primary tools with a few exceptions. This small, crop sensor body is light enough to help offset the size of the lenses but has all the features of much physically larger/heavier bodies. I have owned full frame cameras, DSLRs and mirrorless, and this one is the best yet for what I do. All at a price that made it possible for many who never dreamed of a camera like this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from R7 Thoughts Great so far. Awesome autofocus and drive speed. My only wishes would be for the traditional LCD info on the top of the body. As I don't shoot much video, I would prefer not having the video selection on the power switch as I find I flip it to video many times. Only other thing would be the possibility of a battery grip for portrait shots. Battery doesn't seem to be an issue, but the larger grip and side shutter would be helpful for portraits. Overall very pleased with the performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb camera for birds at a fair price My new R7 is paired with a RF 100-500mm lens. I have had much improved sucess with the R7 coming from an EOS R6 and 6D Mark II. Focusing difficulties have gradually begun dissapearing for me, given I am a rank beginner and totally an amateur. I configured back button focus and animal eye focus to improve my chances with birds in flight. Unless you don’t mind the price on the better full frame cousins, the R7 is more than enough for hobby photographers. I fully support the excellent reviews it has gotten.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bird Photography Beast I use this camera for bird photography and it is an absolute beast! I had been using superzoom and bridge cameras before and this camera just blows them away. The autofocus on the bird's eye is just incredible. I can hardly believe it can even find the eye at all when the bird is far off or hidden in a shrub but it does. I'm using it with the new RF100-400 f8 lens and the image quality is off the charts. The tracking is fantastic, even on distant flying birds. And the combo is so light! It is great for hiking. I've seen many reviews where it is compared to the R5. I mean, come on, that camera costs almost 3 times as much! Be fair. I think to even mention them in the same sentence shows how incredible this camera is. I guess I should give a complete review and note the drawbacks. I don't have any experience with other Canon cameras so the learning curve has been a bit steep. Because the camera is so new there aren't many videos or help sites, yet. And the documentation is a bit pedestrian tbh. But I am having fun learning and the Canon Community has been very helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EOS R7 Exceeded my expectations. I’m able to use my EF 100-400 easily. I’ve also added the R16 and R 24-105 and the results are great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera - love it! I've had this camera a couple of months now, and I love it! I upgraded from a DSLR 80D to the R7, and I use the Control Ring Mount Adapter for my EF70-300mm lens. The feature to track and lock on the eyes of birds is really amazing, and was the main reason I purchased the camera. I'm more of a hobbyis and I'm very happy with this camera. There's still a lot for me to learn, but I'm definitely out shooting more now that I have this one. It's also about the same weight as my 80D, I was really expecting it to be lighter after all the reading I was doing on mirrorless cameras, but it's not. The adapter also adds some weight to it as well, I'm just throwing that out there in case that's an issue for you. The benefits outweigh the cons for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too bad, it's not quite a replacement for the EOS 7DII So far, a very good action, crop sensor camera. I find the tracking capabilities and burst shutter speed to be very good. While I have only had the camera for a week or so, the initial tests are very good. The images below were taken with the EOSR7 and new 800mm F/11 Lens, hand held from a Hotel Balcony. The boat pictures were of boats nearly a mile away. The helicopter flew over the beach, right past our balconey. Each shot shows the focus point right where it should be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canon R7 review I am a professional portrait and event photographer. I am very pleased with the sharpness and overall quality of the images produced by this camera, even with a Canon ef to r adapter and several canon ef lenses. The motor drive is lightning fast and the camera is very easy to use. In my opinion the quality of the images produced by thr r7 is equal to that of the r6.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from R7… Way better than I imagined! First of all this is my first canon R mirrorless camera. I am coming from years of using a 5D Mark IV and 7D Mark II and their predecessors. To me it was like going from my AE-1 film camera to my first digital camera. Quite honestly, I am still a little bit shell shocked by how good this little camera is for the price. I was dreaming that this camera might make my older EF 200mm 2.8Lii lens into a killing machine. I didn't expect it to actually do it and the same with all my other EF lenses. The In-camera image stabilization is far better than I could have possibly imagined. I mean that same 200mm can take great photos indoors at 1/30th of a second with this APS-C sensor. Image quality is far better than I expected. The Eye AF and autofocus is a game changer with Wildlife and birds in flight. It does have its limitations and struggles at times with bright skies and heavy branches and just plain misses it completely at times, but when it works correctly……. it is amazing. In the past two weeks I have taken over 20,000 images of mostly birds and it just feels like cheating. It's that good. Of course it is not perfect and has several deficient areas that other more expensive cameras don't have. But for me, it just makes me smile. Not just sometimes, but nearly all the time! Probably my biggest two surprises with the R7 were was just how clean the images are right out of the camera. Thus low noise at higher ISO and Jpeg quality. Both much better than expected. I usually shoot Raw on one card and Jpeg on the other. Sometimes the jpegs are just so good and clean processing through the newer version of DPP that I just use as is. That was a rare, if ever, case with the 7D2, but more often with the 5D4. I do find that landscape images with the R7 often times need much more processing to improve shadows and highlights. No big surprise there, however. Anyway, ISO values of up to 6400 I can make useful at times. 3200 most of the time and 1600 all the time. This is about par with what I achieved most of the time with the 5D4. The 7D2 was 1600 sometimes and 800 all the time. I just don’t remember the DPP software being this good with my other cameras. Pros: • IBIS • Eye AF and it's AF in general • 15/30 fps • No micro-focusing adjustments anymore • Adjustable screen • Lightweight • Excellent results on some EF lenses (35 F2 IS, 100L 2.8 macro, 200L 2.8ii, 100-400ii L, 24-70L F4 • Excellent Image Quality • Cropping ability with 32.5 mp sensor • Completely quiet electronic shutter • ISO can go up to 6400 straight out of the camera and downloaded to DPP 3200 on most other applications (This is probably my biggest surprise). • Really good in camera jpegs. Especially when processed with DPP 4.17.30.0 (another really big surprise) Cons: • Small and very slightly recessed buttons (downside of being small) • Screen blackout on slow shutter speeds • AF for birds in bright skies, wildly focuses at times • Electronic shutter warping at high speeds. Although I find about half are useable so not completely a con. • And of course the limited buffer, but I can deal with that by feathering my shutter release. But no excuses here, it should be better. • EVF/Display screen can bounce back and forth with corrective lenses at times. • Seems to completely lose focus on distant objects/birds unless assisted with manually focusing. So in summary…..Canon really nailed this one. Is it perfect? No. Is it really, really good? Yes. In fact, it is just way better than I possibly thought it could be. It has been a joy to use in my rather limited time with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brand New! Only reason I did not give it a 5 is due to the fact that it’s still brand new to me and I haven’t had the opportunity yet to truly get to know the camera!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Focus Issues, Will Not Turn On This camera worked great for wildlife at first, then I started experiencing focus issues (nothing would be in focus in the whole picture). Then it shut off and would not turn on again. I've tried two separate fully charged OEM batteries, but it will not turn on. I've only had this camera a matter of months. It is currently with Canon for repair (at my shipping expense).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Wildlife Camera I waited to write this until I had a chance to really spend some time with the camera. This replaces my 7D Mark II and I am thoroughly pleased so far. The animal eye AF is really a game changer. So far I've been using it paired with the EF 400mm f/5.6L prime lens and the results have been excellent. Less noise at higher ISO's than the 7D Mark II, and the image quality is significantly better. Definitely worth the upgrade at this price point. The only thing I will miss is the weather sealing on the 7d Mark II, and I might just hold on to that body for that reason.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera Only had it a few days and haven't taken many photos but already know its going to be a great one. I have two R5s which are incredible cameras with fantastic autofocus. I traded a Sony a6000 in for the R7. Got lucky, store had a waiting list for body only but had a couple of Rs w 18-150 lens in stock so I got it! WOW such a nice and compact package but powerful. Speed and focus are similar to the R5 in a smaller package. I take long motorcycle trips and am vey tight on space. This camera will fit that need perfectly, can put in my tank bag and be ready to shoot. the 18-150 on the crop sensor body compares vey nicely with the 24-240 that I use on an R5 as a walk around lens. All the other R lenses will fit as well. On my previous camera was a hassle changing from 18-50 to the 55-210, now one lens does it all. A few years ago in Glacier National Park I took a hike. on the way back the trail was blocked by some Big Horn sheep - what luck. I put the 55 to 210 on the little Sony. They started walking towards up and I was zooming out but couldn't go less than 55, got a fantastic full frame headshot though before they were too close and I switched to my iPhone. 18 to 150 would have been perfect. Have seen a number of birthdays go by and the light weight and small size of the R7 makes it a wonderful tool. Small enough to be easily carried yet a powerful camera. Downside - R7 is small and light. My wife has arthritis in her hands and I'm going to loose my R7 or have to buy her one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mirrorless on a budget Bought this camera to transition into mirrorless for my wildlife photography, and wasn’t ready to spend money for full frame R5. As a long time 5D IV and 1D IV shooter I have struggled to adapt to the R7’s compact size and layout of the dials for exposure settings, and back button focusing. This camera just isn’t comfortable in my hand (yet). I have also had some focus hunting issues when using the adapter for non RF lenses. Hoping I find the perfect niche for this R7 body and the lens match that will settle my ‘first impressions’ frustration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Very Mixed Bag I purchased my Canon R7 about two months ago from a local dealer and have been using it steadily since. I was hoping for a competent APSC with wide ranging use, but with special capabilities in bird photography. From my experience, there are very distinct pros and cons with the R7. The top 'pro' is its focusing ability. Compared to prior Canon DSLRs and even the R6, the R7's ability to acquire eye focus on a range of subjects is very impressive. The 'Cons' are several. Noise levels are essentially comparable to my old Canon eos 77D. Dynamic range is similar, maybe a smidge slightly better. The biggest Con is the shutter shock when using the mechanical and first curtain shutters. It is always compromising the sharpness of photos for any shutter speed less of 1/320 or 1/250 or slower. It is entirely visible in all photos at slower speeds. But longer lenses - like when photographing birds - make it worse. So, the only way to get passable photos is to use electronic shutter and deal with the dynamic range limits and panning blur that comes with this. The other Con is that Canon hasn't yet provided any quality RF-S lenses for this and other apsc cameras. I cannot recommend this camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent camera for price I am really loving this camera! Autofocus advancements are amazing compared to my EOS 6D. Controls are more intuitive than the EOS R5 (to me). I use this for a personal camera and video is very important to me. I prefer Canon color science over Sony and Black Magic and that was the deciding factor for me. Plus, I get to continue using my LP-E6 batteries!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from R7 Camera - Great camera at a great price! Have moved up through the years with Canon APC cameras from the Rebel to now, my first mirrorless camera. I use this camera for macrophotography with my go-to Canon 100mm L. Excellent features of the R7 with focus bracketing and stacking. Dual SD cards are a great feature. The only down side would be not being able to use flash with focus bracketing and the hand grip is a bit too small. I bought an aftermarket bottom piece that makes the camera perfect! A great camera for the price, and functionality. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Birding / Wildlife Wonder Tool My birding partner loves to shoot captivating images without the technical complexity. The R7 allows that. I configured it to behave as a "point and shoot" (with a 600mm).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My First Mirrorless Transitioning from Canon SLRs starting in 2004 to my first mirrorless. I have only shot twice with it. I bought it for sports photography to replace my 7D II which is at 170,000 and on its second shutter. Each new Canon cameraI have purchased has been an improvement. Lots to learn here. It will take awhile to be comfortable with the R7 in the dark. I have been using Youtube posts to become familiar and to learn the right settings. I read that there are 450 settings on the R7. I am not comfortable with the smaller size of the camera. When used with the 70-210 2.8 it feels very lens heavy as opposed to my 5D III and 7D II. The small size also makes it more difficult to use the touch screen and some of the toggles. Looking forward to seeing the results from the "eye capture" using people recognition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great APS-C Camera I bought this lens as a direct upgrade for my aging 80D. I wanted to make the change to mirrorless and 4K in one go as my video recording needs kept requiring more. I was used to APS-C sensors and wanted a similar camera focus on video with 2 SD slots. That's why I purchased my R7 and I've been happy with my decision for the past 6 months. It has gotten me back into taking photos as well.
