Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Watch I have had this watch for a year now and it is by far the best watch I have ever bought. There is no shortage of metrics, data and trends that can be scrutinised after an activity, or just as part of the normal daily usage. As a side issue, I am so happy I bought a watch that uses buttons opposed to a touch screen option. If you think you want to keep up with the latest and you want a touch screen, then you are making a mistake! It is so much easier to change details and find metrics while doing an activity if you have a button to press. If you are sweating and running and you try to change a screen display with a touch screen, then good luck (which is the situation my partner always finds herself in)!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features I bought the Garmin Forerunner 255 about a month ago and love it. Its sleek looks great. all the features work great. I love working out with it and running. the one thing that has been an issue is that when you start your cross-country skiing activity it takes your starting speed speed and if you're not going that fast you're not moving at all. would love to see that changed to something similar to the running.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great workout watch I bought this watch 3 weeks ago and I really like this watch! I switched over from an Apple Watch and it tracks my workout just so much better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great watch except the go buttons I bought my original one a year ago and it made a huge difference in my running. So great, until about 13 months then the start button died out. No way to repair it, so I had to buy a new one, which is the one star ding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Apple Watch replacement My Apple Watch was on its deathbed and I needed something that tracked sleep, my health and can be used during cycling. The Apple Watch was not as reliable for riding and the Forerunner 255 for the bill!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great improvements I've been using the forerunner 255 for about a month. Last time I had a Garmin it was several years ago. I appreciate all the improvements since then. The only thing I do not like is in running mode, when running longer than an hour the timer function looks odd. The hour is a miniscule size compared to the minutes and seconds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I was looking for. I am enjoying the 255. I have had a few Garmins. The last one I am upgrading from is the 35, which is a solid watch with all I needed- except the new safety features. As a mom running alone, I definitely want those safety features. Before the 35, I had the 620. That was a little too much for me, I never took advantage of all it had to offer. I am hoping that this one is the sweet spot. =)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good watch This watch has all the features that I need plus more. The price was fair. My only complaint is the dim screen. It needs to be a little brighter for my tastes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely got me moving This thing is amazing. Great during exercise. Very accurate pulse rate. The app calendar keeps tabs on my cardio for the week. This thing can tell when l get up to pee at 3 in the morning. Im conscious of my step count and walk more every day. I am no triathlete just a regular dad made better by using this tool. F255. Worth it for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unexpected features When I bought this I was just looking for something to track running. Had no idea it had all of the life features. The best thing for me is the sleep monitor. It is notlw possible to note how poorly I sleep. This is a great aid for my doctors to watch my sleep patterns to get a better idea of my health issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade from Garmin 230 After having the 230 for 7 years, I upgraded to the 255. Very happy with the new features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value, poor user interface Great value for the features. The 255 is a step up in features compared to the 245, but a step backwards in user interface. The slightly bigger size of the 255 is a bit more noticeable. The 245 was the perfect size for being unobtrusive for 24/7 wear. Display items get cut off on the 255 display, which never happened on the 245. The user interface of the 255 is more awkward than that of the 245, less optimized for button interfaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best investment I have made so far! It does everything I wanted and the analytics are great! It's none of the frivolous extra stuff that I never used on my Apple watch. I do not see myself ever going back to my Apple watch. As a baby in my running journey, I probably could have made do with a more basic Garmin watch. However, I feel l like I will be able to grow with this one! I also love that it is a digital face without being a touch screen, so I don't accidentally mess up my workout by hitting the screen!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great watch for many different activities i got this after having a forerunner 35 for 5 years. the forerunner 255 is a massive upgrade. i chose this model specifically for its considerable battery life and GPS accuracy. i am really happy with how long the battery lasts, and so far it’s been a reliable companion for runs that pass by tall buildings or trees that normally would cause tracking errors. one thing i am on the fence about is the suggestions. i’ve had a schedule that i’ve stuck to for a very long time and has served me well, and my watch wants to go against that. i wish it could view your activity history and take that into account when suggesting workouts. for example, i’ve swapped to sat long run, sun rest days, and monday lift to allow for recovery inbetween, and it’ll suggest a sunday long run, which doesn’t work well for my legs. i don’t mind it since i can just ignore it, but it gives me a lack of faith in my routine when it tells me whether or not i should/shouldn’t do something… based on what? hope this makes sense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all around I bought this watch almost 3 weeks ago and I thinks it's perfect. It sits perfectly on my wrist, it has plenty of features, the battery last me about 9 to 10 days with 4 runs of 40+ minutes. I think the MIP screen is better then AMOLED.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I bought this garmin about a month ago, it's drable holds strong and does everything really well. I'd say it's only down fall is with open ocean swims. Sand gets stuck in between buttons and they will get stuck until you throughly clean the watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great watch! I bought this because I wanted to start training for a triathlon. Running and biking with the watch are great! I would say swimming with it is just okay. Tracking laps in a pool with the watch takes some getting used to, as if you're not careful with your movements it sometimes adds extra laps. Every once in a while it misses a lap as well. However, it generally exceeds my expectations! I'd say it's worth it, especially on sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Watch with amazing features As a previous Fitbit user, I was ready for a change, and after reading many reviews I settled on the 255. It was a great choice, the features are very robust and the battery life is amazing. After a month of use I have no complaints and am very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Got Better I've only had it a short time but LOVE IT already. I had a 735 before this and it has all of the features of the 735 plus. The best feature is replacing the finicky clamp-type charger/download connection with a USB-type-SO much better. I can foresee myself enjoying this Garmin as much, if not more, than the previous ones I've owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great watch! I bought this a month ago to replace my Apple Watch. I work 24hr shifts as a Firefighter and was tired of my Apple Watch going dead so I made the switch. I am very impressed and will never get any watch besides a Garmin!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent features for the price Compared to similar products that just measure HRV, this gives valuable insights and data in many areas of life - sleep and stress levels are particularly helpful. I have one more week until I have my HRV baseline, but I enjoy how versatile it is... right down to the watch faces, it resembles a real watch more than a fitness watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Summary The features of the watch are great. It gets a little frustrating when adding custom workouts and using them, because you continuously have to associate it another activity. The watch glass is really cheap and weak. For the price of the watch one would expect a stronger watch glass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great running companion Previous to this watch I used an Apple Watch. While I loved the functionality of the Apple Watch the battery wouldn’t last for long runs of 13 miles or more. This watch has lasted for long runs, races, and entire weeks of workouts without needing charged. My only complaint about the watch is I just wish I could respond to texts from my watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! I love it! Coming from a Fitbit Charge 3, I've been wanting a fitness tracker/watch that is accurate and precise with their readings. Did a lot of research on other brands and different Garmin series and finally decided on the Forerunner 255. Although this watch does not have touchscreen, it has everything I monitor and need for my health. It's been great, wanted to get more precise with my readings I actually ordered the Garmin HRM Pro Plus. All around I'm glad I got this watch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good entry level running watch This is a great watch for those who need help training for long distance running. The coaching and workouts are fun, and my running performance improved quickly. The only downside is that the watch does so much that it takes time to learn to navigate the menus and features. Garmin Connect is great, but also takes some effort to learn to use properly. Overall I am very happy with this watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for! Someone else put it best when they said the Apple Watch is a smart watch with fitness features and the Garmin is a fitness watch with smart features. I switched from my old Apple Watch and am in love with this Garmin Forerunner 255. I was not interested in smart features and texting from my watch, I want fitness tracking and data. For that, it doesn’t get any better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Multisport Watch Bought it over a month ago and it is a huge upgrade from the Vivoactive 3. The battery life is fantastic with at least 10 days with a fair amount of GPS use. The screen is large and clear. GPS activities are very precise. I thought I would miss the touchscreen but so far I've actually liked the buttons as there have been fewer accidental presses from my kids and water. The only 2 things left to test are the full triathlon mode and open water swimming. The new health metrics are cool but I will see how much I use them as I tend to follow a set training plan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Has All of the Bells and Whistles I Need and More I have had a variety of the Forerunners prior to this model, and liked them all, but this one is definitely a big step up, even from my 245. Not only is the battery life much better, but the new GPS modes are great for more accuracy. I also love the additional metrics, including the HRV. The race widget is nice to have as well. There are many metrics and options I still haven't used or figured out, but will enjoy learning. I debated getting the smaller version since I am a small thin woman, but opted for the full size and glad I did. I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awful software can't download music to it -- this seems like an issue. takes forever to sync to apple music where i have music in my library but it doesn't show up, can't connect to spotify because garmin express is constantly crashing; garmin express is constantly crashing, while trying to download music ; the garmin connect app is super unintuitive with features you'd want buried in insane places (to set a pace reminder, you have to go away from the home screen into the settings into a tab for all of your garmin devices then click on your garmin device there which brings up a new settings tab and that's where you can place it) just awful

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overkill on the bells and whistles If it wasn't for the need of a long battery life, something like the FR45 would be fine. There are all kinds of metrics that are meaningless to me and of no use to me as a runner. Extras like the morning report and suggested workout are nuisances, but I've yet to figure out how to turn them off. Using the suggested workout also overrode my run-walk alerts. The little messages that pop up during the day telling me how I feel are another annoyance, though they are easily ignored. I've yet to race with it, so I don't know whether its claims of 24 hours or more of battery life are valid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of Features I picked this watch as part of my company's appreciation for my 20 years of service. I received it 2 weeks ago. I'm not an athlete by any stretch of the imagination so this watch is overkill for what I will using it for. Mainly to track my walks, hikes, and SUP excursions. I like the health features it tracks, even the quality of my sleep. I also like that I can change the watch face. I'm still discovering all the features and how to use them. I'm impressed with the capability of this watch so far. I was considering getting an Apple Watch but I think Garmin has a lot more features at a lower price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An improvement over past Forerunners, so far. Still working to figure out the product. I've had at least 3 previous Forerunners and a bunch of other Garmin products for 20+ years. It appears they fixed the charging cord issues with this version, which is nice to see. There's a lot of capabilities that I'm working to figure out. Still, some of the reporting stuff is a pain and not relevant. I did a 5.2 mile run/walk yesterday and the watch told me it was unproductive. Pretty lame notification. I think I figured out how to shut off that. Hopefully, I can figure out how to turn on the stuff I want and turn off some of the lame biostatistics and feedback that are really not useful. My chest heart monitor worked a little, but not very well. The good news is the wrist monitor seems to work great and is accurate. Shaving my wrist helped a lot. The font on the watch face is too small for normal older people that depend on reading glasses. The run indicators work very well - they are large enough. This review request came from Garmin, I have no idea who Bazaarvoice is and it's pretty lame that my information may be shared with an entity I do not know. I can't submit this review without agreeing to the Bazaarvoice privacy policy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nearly all the bells & whistles needed I bought the Forerunner 255 almost a month ago after comparing a number of different watches. I'm extremely happy I put all the work to research this watch. It has everything besides all the metrics to help keep me motivated with my workouts. The metrics re great. It took me less than a week to manage all the operations on this watch. Don't know why I waited so long. I highly recommend the 255!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall Great Watch for Runners This was a replacement watch for a previously bought one and the new features are insane. I got my personal bests by just following the suggested runs by Garmin. Also, this watch has been helpful when I hiked upstate. Best bang for buck watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome upgrade I have just changed my old FR235 for the 255 and the change is quite significant. My new FR235 is quite lighter, faster, and has so many new features that I think that I still don't know all of them. It has been a major upgrade and the watch works fantastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too many features for what I want The wrist heart rate monitor is "okay" - not as accurate/consistent as the monitors that are based on chest straps. There are way too many functions that I don't need - so I'm in the process of editing them out of the watch. I've used heart rate monitors for 30 years....IMO, there simply isn't the need for all of the clutter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great watch replacement I used the Forerunner 910 for yrs doing triathlon. It gave great data and talked to my power meter on my TT bike. This watch does this and so much much. I've loved the health data to include stress levels, Hrt rate variability, and the like. I'd buy this 255 again over and over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best running watch Dozens on dozens of features, and within those features are more features, and everything can be customized! I run cross country and Track&Field in High School and was using an Apple Watch Series 6 to track pace and performance. One day after practice I looked at Garmin watches just to see what other members of my team saw in them(they used Forerunners); I was almost immediately stunned by the amount of features the Forerunner 255 came with for its price. The only complaint I have is “Cadence Lock”, where the heart tracker locks into your cadence sometimes and shows your heart rate as extremely high, but this can be fixed by just moving the watch higher up you wrist and making it tighter on runs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Basic watch that can be challenging to use I thought this would be easier to use than my old apple watch. I wanted a watch that was more rugged than apple but also had similar features that are as easy to navigate through. While the watch seemingly has what i was looking for, it doesn't have other features, or if it does, I have not been able to get those features to work. For ex, i'd like to change what i have on my watch face and cannot upload templates with such features. my watch is fine for now, but i will eventually look to get another watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn’t be more impressed Had the watch now almost a month and im extremely pleased with my purchase. For the last couple years I have been training with an Apple Watch. No knock on it, but if you’re looking for an awesome training watch this is it. Love the data it gives you in terms of your sleep, recovery, etc. The forerunner 255 has an amazing battery life and a sleek stylish look that fits all my needs

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Takes time to learn, but a huge improvement I have used my Forerunner 230 for 7 years, and had issues with the belt and module so finally decided in February to upgrade to the 255. It's a bit pricey, and I added the chest strap update as well (one can use this as a wrist based HR, but I'm not a fan or a believer in it's accuracy) to bring the total just north of $500. So I need this to last a long time. The instructions from Garmin aren't always intuitive and I started using it before fully reading the manual (not the wisest move) but I was able to get a few runs in, and some rowing w/o's as well to get comfortable with it. The ability to get advanced running metrics is very helpful, even if it told me I'm not great at Ground Contact Time or staying 50/50 between my left and right feet. I also appreciate all the different activity profiles including indoor rowing, indoor bike, weight lifting, skiing, treadmill and many others. Once I read the instruction manual and formulated some questions (which Garmin did a marvelous job of fielding) I felt I was ready to take off my training wheels and use this as my main sports watch. It probably took me 3 weeks from delivery to truly being comfortable with it, but it was worth it. It gives me great insight on my sleeping, stress levels, health status and many other options in the "glances" view. It's worth investing the time to learn what works for you. I've even hit 100 on my morning body battery metric, which was nice. The watch also learns. The first few weeks it thought I was going too hard, and kept asking me to take days off (I rarely do, and balance things between hard/somewhat hard and easy days), until it finally learned and now took my performance analysis from overtraining to productive. That is a very positive development. I'm very glad I purchased this. I still have my 230 as a backup, but now probably won't use it very often, if at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade This is a replacement for my trusty 910, which was terrific for years… until it leaked one morning in the pool. Then kaput. The 255 has so many more features, and is pretty intuitive which is a critical aspect of the user interface for such a device when one is on the move during a workout or race. You just want to keep going, not fiddle around with a tool like this. Perhaps most important though is the consistently excellent customer service I’ve experienced from Garmin over the last 15-years or more. Solid products are the baseline, but it’s the customer service that brought me back to buy this new device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Update to the 245! I have been using the 245 since release and logged more than 10,000 miles - on my fourth band and the battery life was dropping. So as soon as the 255 was announced with better GPS, battery, and an altimeter ... I knew it was time to upgrade! I've been using the 255 for three weeks now and it has been glorious - only charged twice since receiving it, it hooks to GPS quickly and is incredibly accurate. I got the non-music version since I never listen to music while I run, but I'm sure that feature works as well as on the 245Music. One cool surprise is the 'morning overview' - I have come to love each morning seeing my sleep, forecast and so on without having to touch my phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very lightweight and easy to use! I bought this to replace my Fenix 5x Plus that was losing battery quickly. This watch is so much lighter! Easy features and programming. The only problem is the band only comes in one size and leaves a lot of extra band hanging. It seems super janky to have to cut the band and I’m not sure why Garmin didn’t offer 2 sizes like they have with other watches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features and very intuitive! My new Garmin Forerunner 255 is an upgrade the Forerunner 235 I'd had for 6 years and as much as I loved my 235, I have quickly fallen more in love with the advanced features and ease of use provided in the 255. From the ability to review my daily health data, to easily selecting exercises to time/measure, to reviewing my recovery needs, the 255 has it all and more. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Forerunner 255 review in 2023 I bought this at the same time to T&E with a Coros Pace 3. I returned it for the Coros. The back of the watch dug into my wrist and the GPS wasn’t as accurate 100% of the time. I really wanted to like this watch but the Garmin ecosystem is way too complicated to get set up and understand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All-around terrific watch Love it! It's been great for tracking my training, and integrates seamlessly with my Training Peaks account. I got the Running Dynamics for additional data and to help me work on my Ground Contact Time. Beyond that, it's a good day-to-day watch. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best training tool to date I’ve used an Apple Watch, wahoo Rival, and now the 255. The ease of use, training suggestions, sleep data, and recovery data have helped me make sense of my latest plateau (and aging body). Swims, indoor rides (haven’t had the chance to ride outside yet), and runs have worked flawlessly from the suggested workout, in workout feedback, post workout stats, and automatic Strava upload. Even picking a triathlon training schedule and loading it onto the watch was effortless. BTW- my wahoo speed, cadence, and HR sensors paired instantly and seamlessly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid watch with all the features I want! I've had my watch just short of a month, but so far it has met or exceeded my expectations. I have not worn a watch when I sleep, but I find the sleep metric and the morning report to be useful. It syncs easy with my phone and is fairly easy/intuitive to set up. I would say that function has exceeded my expectations. The reason I would not give it 5 stars has more to do with my own unwillingness to give any product a "perfect" review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great smartwatch I bought this a month ago, is very useful. Only two things that I think could be improved: battery duration, is good but not the numbers that it's figure in the specifications and the screen maybe touch screen...it only works by the buttons. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Minor Upgrade. Most should pass on it I got the non music version a couple of months ago, upgrading from a F745. First the sizes: the little one is too small and the big too big. The F745 was a good size. Screens are a wash. Software upgrade: Only thing interesting was the HRV, but since there is nothing actionable that comes out of the data, its not needed. Power has since been added, but again nothing actionable. You can add it to a workout, but analysis is just not there. All in all, if you have a F745, stay there. It fits better and feels better made. If you have a F245, stay there. It has all the basics you need and if you want power, I would suggest a used stryd. And, music vs non-music version is just plain silly. So, am i glad I "upgraded"? {shrug} But its a high cost for small improvements (for the average user)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Features and Flexibility I love this watch. The most important factor for me was to get the info that I wanted. It took some time to figure out how to get it in the right spot. The numbers are a good size and that was another important thing for me. I use it for triathlon training and it is great to be able to get all the sports timed and monitored on one watch easily. It is comfortable, light weight but durable enough not to have to "pamper" it. It definitely lives up to the Garmin quality we are used to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New wristHR won’t work with the heavily tattooed. Let me start by saying I LOVE GARMIN I’ve own the forerunner 310,920 and still 935. I own an 830 edge before that and 820 edge that I shattered and before that a 500. I own 4 pairs of GARMIN power pedals, 2 sets of vectors 2 sets of rally’s. I have a garmin gps RV specific for my camper. I am heart broken that the new hr on the 255 doesn’t work with the heavily tattooed like me. No as in some features as in DOES NOT READ my HR off my wrist, just like the Apple Watch I returned it. So I’m stuck with my old 935 with a broken altimeter that no longer works for snowboarding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like it but.... I do like this watch; however, there are a few features that need tweaking. The Garmin Coach system is too rigid and does not always work. Contrary to my Google search, I cannot change the assigned days, many times I cannot see today's workout even though it is "today". It would be nice to import my own plan via csv document or other. The sleep documentation is great (except). Except it cannot track if I wake up for a couple of hours and then go back to sleep. On my 645, it would document real activity for that time period (awake and then sleep details) after I change the awake time. This watch/app seems to think I was asleep during that wake time. It adds the hours as sleep without details. Example, the other day I "slept" over 9.5 hours - NOT. Needs some work but it is nice.

Wish more tweaks could be done from the app. Very comfortable on the wrist which I think helps with accuracy of body metrics. The app platform and watch fit my interests of running, hiking, gym work. Don't think I'll be returning to my previous product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not sure it is a sturdy watch - keeps resetting. Bought this a month ago and the watch has reset itself at least 3 times. Like the screen just goes black. Garmin logo comes up and it resets. Have had 3 other Garmin watches and none of them have done this. Soo I dunno. I have craftsmanship concerns with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best watch for an active person!!!! I couldn’t be happier with this watch!! I always wore an Apple Watch for my runs and races but I had no idea what I was missing! This watch has everything I need and nothing that I don’t. The weight of it is amazing it’s like there’s nothing on my wrist at all and the band is comfortable also. The battery life is amazing. I’m a lifetime wearer of Garmin! Thanks for a great product and I highly recommend the Forunner 255.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! I loved my 245, but this is worth the upgrade I haven't had a chance to use the multisport feature or open water swim since I'm in the midst of Marathon training, but I'm looking forward to in the near future. I'm a data nerd, so I love the morning briefing, the recommendations for training for my prime race, the sleep data, and I'm looking forward to seeing if the dual band GPS works better in the downtown Chicago area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Watch I bought this watch almost a month ago. I bought the Forerunner 255 coming from a Vivoactive 4S, so I'm still getting used to a lot of the more advanced features, but so far it works as promised. Battery life has been great, lasting about a week before I need to charge it. The programmable race calendar is also working out really well - I've put three races already in the watch and the suggested training schedule seems to adapt fairly well. Coming from a much smaller watch (as a woman with a smaller wrist), I was afraid that I'd think this one would end up being too big. It took a little bit of adjusting, but I'm pleasantly surprised that it's quite comfortable and not nearly as heavy as I thought it would be. It also doesn't feel too big for my wrist. I went with the full size 255 instead of the 255S because per the watch specs, the bigger watch has a bit longer battery life, and for me it's worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Low Price Sports Watch I love my Garmin Venu because of the beautiful, high resolution AMOLED screen and it's touch screen interface. However, I wanted an affordable watch with the multi-frequency satellite tracking and a watch able to log my swim drills, both of which were lacking in the Venu. So I continue to use my Venu as my everyday watch, but wear my 255 for running, swimming and biking. The tracking seems to be much more accurate, syncing with satellites is quicker and it meets all my needs for my daily sporting activities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really a 4.5 star rating this is a very nice improvement over the 245. I had/have the 245 music and don't miss it at all. I am a huge fan of the larger face and improved metrics. the buttons are MUSHY and don't have a nice click as previously... that's why it is not a 5-star review.

The amount of available data is almost overload but it's better to have it than not and wish you did. Fast connection with satellites and just an overall good device for the runner/cyclist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features I have only had my Garmin since Christmas. Works great, best sports watch I’ve had. Has changed the way I live my life. So far the only feature that is annoying is that if you miss a workout it doesn’t let you make it up or go back to it. Only lets you reschedule if you know ahead of time if the workout doesn’t work. Easy watch to figure out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worst Garmin watch ever made. Avoid! Been an owner of Garmin products for years and wanted an upgrade. This is so poor in every aspect, clumsy buttons, difficult to navigate and way too complicated to change between settings. Incredibly disappointed, love Garmin but not this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very user hostile. Quality product. But........My 15 year old Garmin finally gave out, and I miss it. It provided all most folks need ..... pace, cadence, HR, power & time. The other million permutations on the 255 are very intrusive. System is not intuitive and very user hostile as is attested by a 108 page user's manual for a "watch". Wish Garmin had a phone help line to walk me through just a very few items that I need. 4 stars because I'm sure all will be good soon as I work things out......Doc

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great watch! Love the watch! My only challenge has been getting it to record my lap swimming accurately. I followed the YouTube videos and set up the drill log several times to record my average pace on a variety of distances. Sadly, it still underestimates my swim workouts by an average of 500 yards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love that watch. Just wish it wasn’t so glitchy So, it’s constantly connecting and disconnecting from phone, even tho it’s within range. Also gps randomly takes forever to locate, outside with clear view of sky. I like the display, and it also feels great on the wrist. I think there are some bugs to fix with updates tho. I hope they figure it out soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Watch but hard to figure out everything I will admit this watch's potential is fantastic, but the learning curve is horrendous. I was interested in the pace function. The first time I used it, at each mile marker a women's voice would announce my pace. Great! The next two times I ran she was absent. Frustrating. I have watched many videos on how to use the watch but they are generally geared toward the elite runner. There are many more examples but I will continue to figure out all the nuances.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very helpful! I bought the Forerunner mostly for sleep and run tracking. It has been very eye opening for the sleep tracking and for my jogging. One area that I was hoping it would be more helpful is when I do Peak8 (run full speed for 30 seconds, walk for 90 seconds, repeat for 8 reps). If the Forerunner could be setup to beep/vibrate for that cycle and score that exercise, it would be a very useful addition!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade. I’ve been using it for about two weeks. It’s so much better than my old FR 235. HR monitor is very accurate. I compared against my chest HR monitor and I’m pretty happy with the results. The tracking while you sleep is pretty consistent. You can in fact see a trending, the results aren’t all over the place like my old watch. The battery is very good. I have the tracking set to the max accuracy and battery life is still great and accuracy. This watch has a lot of sensors for people who likes data like me, and you can get even more if paired with external sensor like running power which is great. So far I haven’t found anything I don’t like. The connectivity with the phone is pretty reliable also. I didn’t have any issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great All Around Watch! I’ve had this watch for a few weeks now and have had the chance to check out quite a few of the features. I really like all the data it provides after activities. One thing I found to be cool was how during pool swims it detects when you stop your sets, although I had to fix my goggles at one point and it stopped the set on me (not the garmin’s fault). I like the size of the watch face and the band is a bit more comfortable than my previous garmin (645 music). Overall I am really enjoying this watch and look forward to using the brick and triathlon activities as I get deeper into my season’s training.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very customizable!! I am in love with my Forerunner 255. My previous watch was the 235, so this is quantum leap to the 255. The race/training calculator is a great feature. It seems to do a better job than me of suggesting daily workouts. I've had it about 2 weeks and am still learning a lot about the watch's capabilities. I'm looking forward to logging many miles with my new companion. The only change I'd like to see is larger graphics and text. For example, when I'm scrolling through the glances, it would be nice if the primary item was enlarged a bit (the way it looks on the menu on a Mac). The text on many of the display screens is too small for us older runners to read :0 Aside from this minor issue, I can't think of anything else I'd change about the watch. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Garmin Watch I've Had! This is my 3rd Garmin watch and by far the best. I had a forerunner 45 but the 255 is a significant upgrade. I love the sleep tracking and long battery life. The HRV and trianing status helps me know if I should keep the pedal down or dial it back a bit. I also love all the swim and triathlon features. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good for running and swimming I bought this watch a month ago, and I am very happy that I did. I use it for running and swimming, replacing an apple watch. For running, it is much easier to see my pace, miles, and time etc than my apple watch. For swimming, it is easier to control my interval swim with rest timer and interval timer. Also, drill log is very helpful. The only thing that I think is still not great is the swimming stroke detection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Fitness/Adventure Watch As an Android phone user, I thought my only connected watch options were Wear OS products from the likes of Samsung, Fossil, Google and Tag Hauer. Was I mistaken. The Forerunner 255 from Garmin is such a more practical device. It's waterproof to 50 feet. It's light and durable. It has no touchscreen, but it has Gorilla glass. I actually prefer the buttons on the Forerunner. And I don't miss talking into my watch or doing silly things that users try once and then abandon. Garmin watches are for people who want to stay active and/or get fit and stay fit. It counts steps and distances incredibly accurately. It monitors heart rate and respiration. It can start activities with two presses of a button and copy that activity to top fitness apps like Strava. And the companion app offers monthly and quarterly challenges for users. Plus it has a long batter life - about a week at full brightness. I regret owning a "smartwatch." But the Garmin 255 has changed my life. It's the only watch I need to wear.

I bought it because of the 46 mm display and didn't think I needed all the features that this watch has but they motivate you to run more and improve. I thought you needed an extra pod for the running dymanics but software was updated. The user interface is easy to use (probably better than an apple watch), and still highly customizable. Watch has a nice exterior design too which looks good really anywhere, whether in formal or casual environment. Face can also be changed to an analog face if you want to use it in a more formal environment. Battery life is good, and it charges fast too. No issues pairing with iPhone. As a runner it is very useful for running, it calculates metrics that are highly useful especially for people who are training for races. Can say nothing bad about this watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Upgrade from Forerunner 245 Still learning to use features on the device, but can note more useful features (1) Minimum lap distance now at 100 meters ( rom 200 on 245) . (2) Paired with Garmin Chest Strap HRM, the ability to conduct lactate threshold, and set HR zones on LTHR values. Paired with strap or Running Dynamics Pod , Running Power is measurable. Not so sure about HRV values, as the overnight values are very different than those from Health Snapshot. The Load Focus feature is huge in setting up training sessions. GREAT VALUE for any runner who wants to track metrics and progress.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All the running stats you need I am currently training for a marathon and the workload feature has been helpful to let me know if I am training enough to progress and also if I need more recovery before another hard run. It pairs well with the hrm pro chest strap so I can analyze my run stats while I am running and afterward to show me how I can improve in different areas and also how I have progressed in running a certain pace at a lower heart rate. The sleep tracker is great to to help me find good patterns to help me sleep with more deep sleep and REM. Overall, this has been a useful tool to help me become a better runner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the watch I had been considering getting a Garmin for a while after tracking all my runs with my phone for a long time. This is so much better. I love not having to hold my phone in my hand while I run, the Heart Rate monitor adds so much information and the VO2 estimates and other training status insights are really cool (if maybe not super useful). The battery life is a little shorter than I would have expected but it can still go a full week on a charge and it charges up pretty fast so not a big problem. Overall, I love it and I would definitely recommend it.

I wish there were a few more defined sports such as ice skating, but it covers most of what I need a lot that I do not right now, but will in the future. There is so much to explore on the watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excelente I'm enjoying it a lot because the screen is bigger. But it has to improve in the sense that the information is with larger letters, since many athletes have the Otica disability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great experience so far The sleep tracking on this watch is fantastic, and I love that it also tracks my stress and body battery. Since purchasing, I've also started doing one of the Garmin running programs and my VO2 max and resting HR have already improved significantly. I love that this watch focuses as much on rest and recovery as it does on activity!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Running Watch I tried the Coros Pace 3 and the Forerunner 265 prior to buying the Forerunner 255. The Pace 3 was a good watch, accurate but the timer display was hard too small even after adjusting. The Forerunner 265 is a great watch but you pay 150.00 more for the Amolid display and the workout display in full sunlight was hard for me to read. However, the Forerunner 255 is a perfect fit. It has all features of the 265 but I can really see all fields clearly and the multi band GPS is amazingly accurate. I am enjoying the morning report and ALL of the running metrics that comes standard. Right now--Dec 2023, you can get this amazing watch for 249.99, a 100.00 discount--a bargain for what you get. I upgraded from the beloved 245 and I'm loving the larger display, accuracy, fitness info, and trending data. You just can't beat the value of this watch. Nothing like it on the market in my opinion. Loving it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have never bought something so useful until now I bought the Forerunner 255 for Christmas and I had no idea how awesome it really is. The running virtual coach guides me along the way and keeps me motivated. I've had some other sorts watches in the past, but they were all pretty awful, especially for Heart Rate. This watch made me put away my heart strap (except for weight training) and I have confidence it's reading my heart rate effectively. I never had some of the features like training status, body battery, the running graphs, stress (that is accurate), etc. Best money I have spent in a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back Button Squishy I received this today. It looks great and I'm very excited to take it for a run. My unit's back button doesn't engage like the others and must be pressed in very far to work. I contacted support and the solution is to return it to the store for a replacement. Now I have to spend over an hour of my time because of poor quality control. Very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Dig my 255! As both a retired service member and fitness fanatic, I've been using GPS before it was available on the civilian market. Once Garmin came out out with forerunners and foretrex, I've been enjoying using, and abusing them. Now that my body is slowing down.... I needed something to pick my up - typical of Garmin - y'all provided just the answer with the Forerunner 255! I love this thing! It looks good enough for daily use, tells my sleep patterns suck, and even when to get off my butt and MOVE! The 255 ROX! Thanks Garmin and Semper Fi!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Run Companion I'm 3 weeks into daily wear of my FR255 and it has been great. My primary needs out of a watch are pace, distance, and elevation to assist with marathon training, and this watch does great for these metrics. I also powerlift but haven't used this watch to try tracking anything in the gym, only running. It's capable of far more than my current use demands of it. I have found the Body Battery data to be pretty useful as well. I had no need for the latest and greatest AMOLED displays and such, so the FR255 turned out to be precisely the watch for me. If you're after a simple yet feature-rich watch, regardless your sport, this is a solid choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You’re Better off with a Fitbit or Apple After returning two different Forerunner 745s for horrific GPS performance and consistently inaccurate heart rate readings, Garmin support indicated that the 255 had a more advanced heart rate monitor, so I decided to purchase my third Garmin watch. Have not put it through its paces long enough to know if the GPS is any more reliable than the 745, but it only took a few days to figure out the heart rate accuracy is worse than the 745. This watch has shown my heart rate at 83 bpm during a workout where my actual pulse was in the mid 130s and minutes later it will show me at 175 bpm when I have not altered my pace. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I got so disgusted with the inaccuracies that I took the watch off my wrist during an elliptical workout and set the watch face up on the shelf of the elliptical machine. For about the next five minutes the watch was picking up a 130-150 bpm heart rate from an inanimate object (the elliptical machine). Overall, I like the Connect App, I just wish Gamin had a reliable wearable to go with it. I've spent a lot of money on Garmin sport watches and all I have is - buyer's remorse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a smartwatch Good running watch for programming work outs, easy to see when running, actually has buttons(!) not a touch screen. Race pacer is cool. Coming from an Apple Watch and Whoop, it is certainly neither of those. I have worn the other two along with the garmin 255. The HR monitor is not accurate, I suppose they are trying to sell you on their chest strap. HRV data and sleep data not accurate. The navigation on the watch is like you stepped back in time +5 years. Overall meh.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent all-around watch I upgraded to the 255 from the 245 and have been very happy. I am appreciative of the different features it has, specifically HRV and a broader range of activities to select. I use the HRV and other data to help identify pressure points in my day/life and address them accordingly through lifestyle changes. I have a smallish wrist and I decided to go with the full 255 instead of the 255S because I wanted the bigger screen. It's no heavier than my 245 was (or if it is the difference is negligible). I've had it for about a month and I'm thoroughly loving it so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes me want to run more Been using daily for two weeks. I have only had to charge it once in that time, and the battery got back up to 50% in roughly 20 minutes. This is a huge advantage coming from an older Samsung watch that got 20 hours to a charge at most. Garmin Connect works well and the integration with third-party applications is smoother than Samsung or Google's comparable offering. I appreciate having a web version of the app, even if some menus look a bit dated. Suggested running workouts are great as well. The button interface takes a bit of practice, but it's much less fiddly than a touchscreen during a workout. Plus, it's actually nice not having to worry about turning the screen off to go for a swim or get in the shower. Overall, I'm thrilled with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excited and Enjoying the Upgrade from my Venue My Venue display just plain wore out, I assume from exposure to UV? SO after studying the the Instinct2 and the Forerunner 255, I went with the Forerunner 255.I am really loving several of its features ... I love the audibles that I can select when running (split time, pulse, watts, avg pace) ... I am thrilled that I can broadcast my heart rate to my 1030+ while cycling instead of having to wear a chest strap ... being able to get power (watts) while running, without need for any additional sensors, is quite cool ... the Morning Report lets me quickly review my sleep data and body battery in the AM ... and the battery life is thus far very impressive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome watch I’ve had this watch for about 3 weeks. I had an instinct and it was great but I wanted something a little fancier. This watch works the same with 5 buttons and tracks well. It works great on outdoor runs and it’s actually pretty accurate on my treadmill, the instinct was usually not in sync with my treadmill. The workout tracking is good for weight training. I like the watch faces but I’d prefer a few more options. It’s comfortable but it doesn’t track my heart rate as well as the instinct. I have tattoos and I know they create an issue. The reason I switched from Apple Watch to Garmin was because of that. The Garmin still tracks my runs while the Apple Watch would pause constantly. Heart rate isn’t a deal breaker for me so the watch still does what I need and I recommend buying it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Balance of Price vs. Features Received the watch for Christmas 2023. I’ve been wearing Garmin running watches for quite some time now, having started with a Forerunner 225, then a Fenix 3HR and my last watch before this one was a 935. Definitely love the feature set and all of the capability of this watch. Decided with all that this one can do I didn’t need to go back to a 900 series as I generally don’t use all that it is capable of. I love the ability to see so many data points (HRV, sleep score, body battery, etc.) directly from the watch. I’ve also been using the suggested running plan which takes the thoughts out of what run I should do for the day. Also for those looking for a great watch face, I love Garmin’s Home-Fit Thrill. So many colors to mix it up and just enough data points.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the new features I got mine about 2 weeks ago. I've played with the various settings and have it pretty much dialed in for my tastes and workouts. I love the new features with workouts, respiration, HRV, body battery, pulse ox, health snapshot. I don't have a reading for the HRV status, yet, but should get it soon (19 to 21 days of wearing needed). It is light and comfortable and the display easy to read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from loaded with features I am a numbers person and this watch gives me lots of measurements to consider. Really keeps you on track as you cannot cheat, sort of like having a coach watching you. Takes some time to figure out how to get to everything but not too bad. Morning report is great as it sets up the day for you. Wish I had this watch when I was 20 years younger so I could take better advantage of all the measurements. Batter life is such an improvement from my old 410XT and it is much lighter. Seems to be very accurate in distance and the resulting scores/stats. Like the physical age, workload and VO2 max. You can really get a good Idea of where you are and plan to get to your own targets. Love the 255!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never going back to Apple Watch A few years ago I switched to an Apple Watch after being a long time Garmin user. It was ok but limited. I recently decided to give Garmin another try and my new Forerunner is better than the Apple Watch in almost every way—pretty intuitive, easily customizable, buttons instead of a touch screen so it’s easy to use in all weather and with gloves, great battery life, more comfortable to wear even during sleep, and it actually looks decent. Plus Garmin finally replaced the fiddly charging connector that used to irritate me on my old watches. Definitely sticking with Garmin from now on.

I love how it measures stress level, oxygen and quality of sleep along with having an HRV status. These features make it a great watch. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the watch I’ve been using Garmin wearables since the Forerunner 305. They’ve come a long way. I thought that watch was great. I bought my son the 255 to replace his Vivoactive 3, a big upgrade. He’s a runner and loves it. It has a lot of information, and when combined with the Running dynamics pod gives measurements such as vertical oscillation, ground contact time, balance, etc. One does need a chest HR monitor to measure lactate threshold, but the watch will do it. The primary practical differences I see between the 255 and 955 are the lack of a touch screen - typical Garmin button layout - and no maps, only a breadcrumb. Not a big deal for us. The watch is stylish. I’ve never had a problem with durability with any Garmin device I’ve owned. The screen is large and readable. So far a great buy.

Coming from an Apple Watch SE, it’s a fairly big change, transition has been good. The GPS accuracy is superior. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I Wanted I’ve had this watch for about a month now and it’s been everything I wanted. Previously I had the Instinct Solar, and it just wasn’t quite what I was going for. As a cyclist that also owns an Edge 530 and the Rally XC100 pedals, I wanted a system that all worked together. With the Forerunner 255 that has all become a reality. All of my data from the different devices all feed into the Connect app and blend with the Physio TrueUp system. I get in depth metrics on everything from my sleep, Pulse Ox, and respiration. Training has become much more productive with being able to track my recovery. And the lifestyle features are great too including Garmin Pay so I don’t even need to bring a wallet on a ride. Time will tell what the battery lifespan will be, but in the meantime I am extremely happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a fan Not as easy to use as I was hoping for. Randomly changes screens and vibrates for no reason. Not as intuitive as other watches I’ve used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice! Upgraded from Forerunner 235 about a month ago and am really enjoying the 255. All the features the I had downloaded IQ apps for with the 235 are native with the 255. Plus there are features that I hadn't even thought of that I now use daily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does everything I need it to do I bought the 255 after the case on my 645 broke. The 255 is way more accurate and has better battery life. I recently completed a 12 hour run, that would have been impossible with the 645M. I can program workouts and basic navigation and that’s enough features for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great watch for Paddling Bought this watch to mount on my oc1 for canoe paddling (to see speeds, time distance etc). Long battery life and lots of cool extra fitness features. Able to see display in the sun very well. Use it as well to track other activities

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great runner's watch I have been enjoying using my new Forerunner 255 as much or more than when I got my first Garmin, a Forerunner 235. While the specs indicate is is bigger and heavier, it FEELs more comfortable and lighter. I like the new features and many new activities. great watch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this watch I wanted to replace my Forerunner 35 and went with an Apple Smart Watch. This was a big mistake. After being frustrated with the Apple watch for a few months I purchased the 255 and have been so happy with it. I like the ease of using it, all the available statistics. Also the battery lasts a long time. I’m very pleased with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Watch I want to say “downgraded” from Apple Watch but tbh, this isn’t a downgrade at all. Fantastic battery life, very easy to start activity and great daily reminders and encouragement. I love that it syncs to my Edge 1030 for cycling and HR. Great watch

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loyal to Garmin I’ve used Garmin products (cycling computers and triathlon watches) for years. I decided to give an Apple Watch a try. The Apple watch has some really nice features but the batteries don’t last. I love the battery life of garmin watches and well as the various options for running, swimming or cycling and many other activities. The gps connects quickly and seems accurate. I am very happy with my purchase of the Garmin Forerunner 255.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Freaking Battery Life!!! This was an upgrade from the Forerunner 245 and what an upgrade!!! First the Battery life! I thought it was joking when it said 11days!! Even with 60+mile bike rides and 10+mile runs, 9 days of battery life is pretty legit. I also enjoy the “Morning Report” I get every day as well as the accuracy of the GPS. I could go on about the activity options as there are many…let’s just keep it as the best watch I have purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great watch BUT went dead after firmware upgrade It's a great watch for whoever is starting on any sports: running, hiking, swimming. BUT after an automatic firmware upgrade it went completely dead. I called Garmin and they're replacing it. Looking forward for the new watch, but somehow worried about the issue, that's been around for 5+ years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garmin vs Fitbit I had only used Fitbit watches for 8 years. I had problems with the last three. The last one (Versa 4) the GPS was always wrong. It was hard leaving Fitbit because it was my first fitness watch. I decided to try a Garmin and I am glad. It was hard using the buttons to navigate for a few day, but that task is second nature, now. The GPS is quick and correct.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenomenal running watch with great features I am really enjoying this watch. The running features are terrific, the interface is great, the GPS connects quickly, and the battery life is so long. The only thing it’s not been good at is recording sleep accurately but otherwise, it’s great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good watch that could have been great I bought my new Forerunner 255 a couple of weeks ago, replacing a 235. It has several new features over the 235 that I really like such as tracking sleep, stress levels, HRV status, and Pulse OX. But then Garmin made a couple of changes for the 255 that don’t make sense, and they are as follows: for runs and all other activities, I set up my watch to have 4 data fields show on a data screen so I can view 4 data points with one glance at my watch. Unfortunately, the timer data field will no longer show in full size numbers my times beyond one hour. For example, the display won’t show 1:02:30 (one hour, two minutes, 30 seconds), instead displaying it as `02:30, where the symbol to the left of 02 is a very, very tiny 1 for one hour, 2 for 2 hours, etc. I like to use compass direction as one of my data fields but the watch can’t display direction using letters such as NW or SE, instead it displays degrees for direction, which of course is useless for most of us. My 235 displays these data points correctly as 1:02:30 and NW or SE.
