Love the Garmin 955
I switched Fenix6 Pro to this model after inconsistencies I had with fenix.i decided on this model after reading reviews and my partner’s 955 was giving him good data. I’ll be sticking with this model for a while.

New to Garmin but learning
I’m learning it while it’s learning me (only slightly scary) but so far this is a net plus. Gives me more actionable data and the more I learn about the internal architecture the more tools I have. Many features are not intuitive so requires some thought but no more than other devices we eventually embrace.

Love it!
I bought the forerunner 955 about a month ago and so far I'm loving it. I love the sleek look of it. I generally use it for hiking and walking. So far it is doing everything I need it to. I'm still learning new features all the time. I do wish the battery lasted a little bit longer. I play around on it a lot and I'm probably getting about 8 days out of the battery. I generally track at least two activities a day also.

Good overall - could be improved for swimming
Overall I am happy with my watch. The battery life is excellent lasting well over a week with multiple tracked workouts. My primary sport is swimming and I got this as a triathlon watch. The band is not great in the water and the excess can get loose causing it to flop around. The swim tracking is as good as I have seen in a smart watch however I wish it could measure kick sets as well as those are a big part of swim training. Perhaps a toggle for swim vs. kick in the workout could allow this without harming distance accuracy.
I’m definitely happy with the purchase but would love to see some updates on the swim workout features!

Great watch, new features!
Great watch to replace my 945 which I hung onto as long as I could. This newer version has more features and runs smoother. Faster capture of GPS signal and I like that it calculates HRV overnight. Lots more configurability from audible alerts during workouts to different display options. As always, Garmin makes a great product and backs it up with their stellar customer support.

Amazing running watch, terrible sleep tracking
Background: I’ve had Apple Watches since they came out and used them as my sole fitness tracker. I decided to switch to Garmin for a much more dialed in fitness and running watch. In that aspect it far exceeds my expectations
The suggested workouts and tailoring to races on specific dates is incredible. All the analytics helped me identify deficiencies in my running that I’ve since been working on.
The only only negative is the sleep tracking is absolutely awful. There are nights I have to wake up in the middle of the night and take out my dogs, take work calls, etc and it counts it as light sleep despite being out of my bed or even out of my house.
Sleep tracking is at the very bottom of my priorities so I personally wouldn’t hesitate to buy this again and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a fitness watch!

Do you have the time?
To call Garmin Forerunner 955 a watch is a misnomer...it's like a "Doctor on your wrist". Not only does it tell time and track your workouts, it follows you all day long to track your movements, your training readiness, even your sleep. It's long battery life requires charging only once a week (even as I run 5 days a week). If Garmin has a "gap accessory" to wear so data can be continuously collected while the Forerunner is being charged, that will make it 6 out of 5 stars.

Compared to Fenix 5 GUI different
I bought the Forerunner 955 as a replacement to the Fenix 5. The screen GUI is different in terms of tracking pace, distance HR while running or swimming which takes some adjustment or education or modification of the data appearing on the screen. It’s lighter weight compared to Fenix 5 and probably longer battery life.

Upgraded from the 935
Overall, I like it so far. I was used to the Forerunner 935 that lasted over 7 years and have only had it a few weeks now. This has way more features that I just need to get used to. I like the new interface and running metrics. These are by far the best watches out there for training in my opinion. Also, they are great for everyday use and I love that you can download different watch faces.

Nice improvement over 945
I bought the 955 as an upgrade to my 945. The new analytics are nice and overall the way the watch works (in terms of menus and information display) is as good or better than its predecessor. While the battery life is also improved, let’s be honest, the 945 was pretty outstanding on that front too. In particular the sleep analytics are improved and the HRV analysis seems to give allow the watch to better estimate preparedness. I definitely appreciate the Training Readiness feature in addition to the Body Battery function. My only gripe is with setting alarms on the watch. With the 945 alarms could be set using the Garmin Connect app on my iPhone. With the 955, this is no longer possible, and instead you need to set alarms on the watch itself, which is a pain in the tushy…

Incredible Training Device
I just upgraded from the Fenix 5 to the 955 and I cannot believe the enhanced technology!!
- Garmin pay is great and so convenient.
- Audible alerts when running is great to alert me of my pace of HR zone.
- The touchscreen is very convenient but doesn’t cause issues when working out.
- Download music for listening when I want to preserve my phone battery on king rides.
- The morning report of sleep, recovery HRV etc gives me imperial data on my recovery from the prior day.
- the display is magnificent
- it’s lighter, but looks like a watch ready to workout
- I wish it had the quick release watch band, but you can convert the watch to quick release yourself so you can easily switch bands to match your bike, run kit out business attire.
My only regret is that I waited so long to upgrade!

Like it so far
I am still trying to learn how to use all the features. The only problem so far is that the wrist based HR seems to be high, like really high vs a chest strap. While I would expect the chest strap to be more accurate, because the wrist based HR is so much higher I am not sure how useful it is if I go out without my chest strap. Other than that I am liking it so far, particularly how long the battery lasts vs my 935.

Great piece of HW with still so buggy SW
Pretty amazing features backed up with so many bugs and some not thought-thru decisions (like music button which cannot be mapped to other function - waste of whole one good button - why not let people decide on their own??? I suppose Spotify paid too much money for this...) Battery is poor, one week drained 65% of it. It is possible to set the watch so it would last longer, but what is the point? Pay 600$ bucks for hardware and turn off most features off, cause the battery is too lame? When I bought my previous watch Garmin 935 5 yrs ago, I took it out of the box and...guess what...forgot there was a charging cable included :D So it is indeed possible!. Garmin you have to do better than this, I'm returning my one.

Awesome upgrade from my Fenix 5
I have had the 955 for a few weeks now and could not be more pleased. I had the Fenix 5 for years. I love the upgraded GPS on the 955. Much more accurate on my trail runs. The ability to set up and update your data screens for every type of workout on the phone is great. The changes are immediate. Since I have a bunch of Garmin Quick Release bands I love that they work with the 955. I have found this to be a great tool for training as a triathlete and trail runner.

Better than apple watch
Have had the Apple Watch Series 5 for about 3 years and run every day with it. Decided to make the switch to the 955 when I wanted sleep data and a battery that lasted longer than 12 hours. 955 tracks workouts perfectly with button controls. The interface is super simple but so detailed with great health data. Not to mention the incredible battery life and fast charging. Only complaint is the gps takes a little bit to load and have had it once not load at all, but this is so infrequent.

Lots of helpful features - lightweight and comfort
This watch has some amazing features for training and tracking health and wellness. It's not nearly as big as I had feared, being a small-ish built woman, and it's lightweight and comfortable especially for the size. I like the option of a touch screen along with the buttons. Accurate GPS, great metrics to help me train smarter, and, while not super stylish, passable with work attire. I wish they used quickfit or quick release bands -the band it comes with has to be removed with a tool, but I substituted quick fit bands to make any changes easier. I bought it in white, and it looks nice and clean - easy to view the screen in a lot of lights too. I am a 20-30 mile/week runner, do yoga, hiking, trail running, track running, some weights, and occasionally swim and bike. I am definitely not using all of the myriad of features but all the features I want are there - including pickleball! The Stamina feature is very cool as is the training readiness - it works so much better than previous training load versions of Garmin. I am very pleased.

Great Potential - Once Software Stabilizes
First - This is an excellent watch! It has nearly everything the Fenix and Epix does but at a lower cost and lot less weight. However, as with any Garmin new release - it has some software issues that need to be addressed before it lives up to its potential. There are various touchscreen issues (hopefully being addressed in the software being released as of 7/6/22) and other little quirks that we (the customer) would appreciate seeing resolved. Coming from the Fenix 7 (and retruning due to the lower cost of the 955), there are a lot of nuance items that are simply missing from the 955, espeicially with touch. It would be great to see widget folders and be able to touch and hold on maps to select locations, touch and hold on watch face complications to show detail, scroll through past data within widgets, etc. But all of that "ease of use" stuff just isn't there for some reason. In the end, the watch is amazing - and the hope is that Garmin updates this watch as much as it does the Fenix/Epix model. If all of these little niggles get fixed, this will be the top watch under $500 - no contest.

Disappointing
I changed my 945 (great product!) for this new 955 because I wanted to have my music in the device.
The 955 has a serious connectivity issue with the GPS, I reset it several times, updated the software, etc. but the issue persists.
In addition, the battery life is much lower than the 945 (perhaps because of the touch screen).
I am thinking about going back to the 945.

Very disappointed in 955
Bought the watch two weeks ago. Not much I like about it.
The glass face scratches easily, it's already damaged.
The data is no more usable than my old VivoSmart. On the athletic side, the algorithms are not training athletes, the rest/recovery cycles are comical. Training Readiness is not credible enough to change my program. And it's out of sync with the Body Battery metric.
The sleep data is no better than the limited data on the the VivoSmart.
This device really serves no useful purpose.
I like the white strap, that's about it.

So much packed into a watch
I bought this watch to give me better data, and was worried that it might just duplicate what my Apple Watch does. I couldn't have been more wrong. I love that the Forerunner 955 can receive programmed workouts, and not only track them but alert me to changes in intervals with all the details. I like being able to leave my phone behind as the watch stores music when I choose to listen on a run, and it gives me voice cues over the music as well. There is a learning curve with this watch, but it gathers so much valuable data that it is to be expected. I couldn;t be happier with the choice of the Forerunner955.

I have had the watch for a few weeks now and so far I am quite happy with it. It is easy to use, the watch’s displays are great and easy to see, and the accuracy while being on GPS mode is outstanding as expected of any Garmin watch

Amazing Battery Life
I bought this a few weeks ago and mainly use it as a smart watch. It will easily last a week or two between charges based on usage. Highly recommended for those who dislike charging their watch everyday.

Feature rich and almsot perfect!
Love this watch that replaced an Apple watch and Whoop band for me. Its like combining those two along with a cycling computer all in one wearable. Features are amazing and easy to navigate in watch and on the app. The only thing that would make it perfect would be if it had talk to text and LTE phone capability. Then you could truly leave the phone at home. Add those and this 4 star review goes to 8 stars!

Great Watch!
I bought the Forerunner 955 two weeks ago, it’s been on my wrist 24/7 ever since that day. I love it, before the 955 I used to wear a Fenix 5 Plus and boy there is a big difference between them. First think I noticed the weight of course, FR 955 is very light hardly noticeable. I mainly bought the FR955 because of the multi gps bands it has. My Fenix 5+was/is very good on that area, but the FR 955 is much better 99%spot on, it takes like 3to4 seconds to acquire the GPS signal but once is connected it stays connected, I love the morning reports, battery life so far it’s been very good, it lasts a whole week, I use the GPS on average for one hour every day, on days I have long runs, it could go up to two hours, with notifications on except during sleep time, no music, the Pulse Ox is set to On Demand only, brightness to 30% though. So maybe all that helps with the battery usage. My only cons are that I wish the watch face colors were a little brighter and with more colors to choose from and that the native watch faces were more flexible with the data I want to see at a glance, for example I like to have the battery icon and percent on my watch faces, but not all the watch faces let me add it. I bought the white model, because I thought it would match better with all my Fenix 5+ bands I have and I was not wrong. I really like too all the data I get now, the F5+ doesn’t have all the thing that my FR 955 has, so it was time for an upgrade. Next I think I am going to get the HRM Pro Plus for even more data than I can understand, but that is great to have.

Way more than I expected…
I went from a FR620 to a FR735XT several years ago to get the wrist heart rate and had been enjoying the watch and its features until I was in a bicycle accident and totally destroyed it. I called Garmin after reviewing the product line and, as I already have an Apple Watch (yes, I wear two watches), I decided to go with the less expensive Forerunner series over the Fenix. Wow! This watch has everything, and the technology seems to have advanced light years. The watch provides suggestions each day on an appropriate workout and keeps track of your "battery." Once you get accustomed to the watch, you realize how intuitive the software is and how much fun this watch is to wear.

Great Out Companion
I have a ViviActive and a VivoActive3 and now the Forerunner 955. The 955 is by far the best of the three. Not only does it supply a tremendous amount of information, the heart rate monitor is accurate enough that I don't feel the need to wear a strap all the time.
The only downside is that it has so much information is that it takes a while to sift through it and decide what is important to me. Also it does function differently than the Active3, so is a bit of a learning cure.
Over all it is a great workout companion. And it will become an even a better one as I spend more time with it.

Perfect for Running
Bought this about 3 weeks ago and loving it. Made the switch to Garmin because I wanted something more running oriented. Battery life is great. I've only had to charge it twice so far. Has all the features I wanted and very easy interface to learn.
I'm not crazy about silicone bands in general so I had a stretchy nylon ordered to arrive around the same time. Figuring out the pins to switch the band out was tough but then I just Googled it. Piece of cake.
I've used it primarily for runs and walks but can't wait to take it out for other activities. I was nervous at first about buying as it seemed a bit big. It did seem big when it came out of the box and I put it on the for the first time but it wasn't that much bigger than my previous watch. I have a 7" wrist circumference and seems to work fine for me.
Took me a hot minute to figure out customizing my watch face to have all my data but it was easy as soon as I found ConnectIQ.
Looking forward to utilizing more features in the future!

Apple Watch or this
If you’ve been deciding a forerunner over an Apple Watch or Garmin in general I hope my review helps.
1- The battery life alone is insane. I got my watch 09SEP and didn’t have to charge it until 21SEP. That’s with multiple workouts in a day, downloading music onto my watch, updating my settings, and overall just playing around with it.
2.The user interface is simple, and you don’t have to rely on the touchscreen while working out! All you have to use is the side buttons. It takes some getting use to if you went from an Apple Watch, but I never realized how much more convenient it is while running/exercising!
3- The morning report is super cool, and gives you pretty accurate data. Sleep reports, body battery, recovery time, recommended workouts, etc. It’s honestly one of my favorite features.
4-It’s nice to see the watch focuses on YOUR health, in regards to just notifications from social media and apps. I have Narcolepsy and I was interested in seeing how accurate it tracks my sleep and it sure enough is accurate.
5- This watch doesn’t have a super great display or brightness, but that something that doesn’t even bother me. When exercising outside in the sun, the screen is VERY clear. I don’t know how to explain it, but even with sunglasses this thing is crisp.
6- I transitioned into barefoot running/zero drop shoes and wanted to keep better track of my running stats. I’m not a marathon runner or anything like that, but that stats it provides has actually improved my times. This relates back to number 5 above actually. When running I run on trails usually and the fact that I can just bring my wrist up and easily see the screen is amazing.
Overall- it’s expensive, but comparing this to an Apple Watch? Hands down choose this. Garmin focuses on you and your health. Never would’ve thought I would’ve loved a watch as much as I do now.

Great replacement for 920XT
Bought the watch a month ago. I use it every day. I am sure I don’t use half of the functions on the watch such as music. Lots of customization is possible with this watch. I have not done a triathlon with this watch yet, but I have been happy with the additional workouts then I had before. Strength training it usually gets the exercise correct when uploading to garmin connect. The linking to existing apps was easy. The setup did take a couple of minutes, but overall easy. I have not set up the ability to pay from the watch yet, but is something I plan on doing.
Watch sits well on my wrist and didn’t take long to get comfortable with having it slightly tighter than my 920XT. This is for making sure it reads the heart rate correctly.
Overall very happy with the new watch. GPS is good, multiple systems that you can use for increased accuracy.
Battery life has been good so far. Maybe charging once a week. Also nice that I can broadcast my heart rate to my smart trainer for my bike and I don’t have to wear my heart rate monitor for the bike.
I still use the heart rate monitor for running to get garmin running dynamics using a HRM-TRI unit.
I have not really dig into the running setting but I should have power available now on this watch and will be using that in the future.

Supposedly not much better than 945
Well it's significantly better than predecessor. Battery life is just huuuuuge improvement. I don't know if my 945 was faulty but I couldn't get more than 3-4 days out of it. 955 is easy 10 days+, can't even count that much. Touch screen is nice addition and few more add-ons such as traning readiness are awesome. Love the new morning reports ... Overall, I'm really happy. Except with my timing when I got it, now I want 965 :)

Great updates but some major disappointments
I upgraded from a 735xt to the 955 and have been enjoying it overall. Most of the workouts have improved but pool swimming on the 955 is definitely worse. There is no way to restart an interval, and the images and text for equipment no longer come through so I was forced to edit every workout that I had previously made. Also, the screen order (even after changing it in the app) makes the rest screen pop up first, so you have to scroll through every screen after each interval to see the swim workout text.

Happy but battery life is not as advertised
While cycling with Garmin 955 + HR Pro, Garmin Radar, Garmin Speed/Cadence sensor, I noticed that it would consume around 35-45% of batter life every 2-3 hours of ride. Having said that, I need to charge the watch every 3-4 days. Besides the battery life, everything else is great!

Huge Upgrade!!!
So I went with a huge upgrade. I started with my Apple Watch which wasn’t doing the trick for my running crave then I started with a forerunner 55 which was really good but it got me addicted even more. So when I went with the Forerunner 955 I couldn’t believe how much I was missing out. The metrics that it tracks is unbelievable. I’m on a runners high and this watch is part of that reason.

Happy with a big step
Bought this about a month ago to replace an Apple Watch . So far it’s been great . Loving the detailed information that get recorded . Loving the battery life while tracking long day hikes and short trail runs. I despised having to charge my Apple Watch mid day while tracking a hike
The only thing I do not like is the stock band. I get skin irritations from these bands (I tend to wear 24/7) the replacement options are pretty much same material. I had to by a 3rd party band (Velcro wrap) to get away from this issue as garmin does not appear to have anything like this …. This is not a make it or break deal for this Watch … it’s a simple replacement and made an awesome watch even better

Not just for runners
This is a great general sport watch too. The GPS accuracy is the best I've ever seen. I really like having the maps available on runs or hikes (maybe for other stuff too, but that's where I use them). And having running power is a bonus. The training readiness and other health metrics really help me adjust my plans and avoid over training. I would absolutely buy this again if I lost this one.

Not sure why I bought this watch. Not a runner. As a walker, golfer and a person who uses the gym, i thought it would provide good information about my exercise and sleep routines. This is a good watch but didn’t meet my expectation. Sleep algorithms are way off. A round of golf isn’t considered exercise.

Great features but the wrist based heart rate is t
I just changed to the FR955 from the FR935, so I could run a pair of heads up display glasses. I do like all of the features of the FR955, but since the wrist heart rate is so far off on my runs the recommendations from Garmin are useless. The FR935 had very accurate heart rates for me, but the FR955 reads my heart rate at 35 to 50 bpm higher during my runs.

I have owned Forerunner series watches for more than 10 years and while I think that the 955 has a bit of marketing hype to some of its newer software features, it continues to be a lightweight, top notch serious runner and triathlete watch and it's tough enough to handle heavy use and reasonable abuse.

I like the find phone feature. of the minuses, I have not yet figured out how to use the built-in trainer. and how to set it up for my heart rate. Garmin User for 30+ years!
Over the last 30+ years I've had a Forerunner 310-610-620-725-735 & now a 955. The 955 is hands down the best Garmin device I've ever owned. If I'm honest, however, it's way more device than I need anymore. I'm 73 & long past my marathon/triathon days. I got the 955 to replace my worn out 725. It wasn't much more $$$ & I was frankly curious about whether or not there were really discernable differences. There are! The active interface & available apps are fantastic! I truly wish I'd had a device this powerful when I was an active runner & training seriously. I recommend it highly. The only gotcha' about my 955 is I've had to recycle the Touch Interface control twice in the month. For some unknown reason the touch control goes bad after a couple weeks. Recycling the Touch control ON/OFF button 'fixes' it - for another couple weeks. For any old guy reading this & no longer into serious training this is not the device for you. Unless like me you have more money than good sense.

Great features but underwhelming
I am no stranger to tech wearables (Oura ring and Whoop) so I appreciate the breadth of stats that I need to assess my readiness to perform daily. I purchased the Garmin 955 as a complement to the superior Oura/Whoop devices. I ran a 10K Spartan Race and was satisfied with the stats especially with the map, distance traveled, moving time vs. time
Elapsed, pinpoint accurate elevation gain, etc. I have worn the watch for over 3 weeks to get baseline average HRV and I have to say it seems inaccurate compared to Whoop/Oura. Whoop and Oura are always within single digits of one another in terms of overnight HRV, while Garmin 955 has been off more than 20-30 points consistently. The watch has great use cases but I will take the markers and stats with a grain of salt.

Love my 955!!!
I received my 955 a couple weeks ago and love it. I love everything about it except I was a little disappointed with the race widget. I was super excited about this and one of the reasons I bought it so I could get workouts to
lead up to my races. They sport this as a triathlon watch but you can not do it with a triathlon, which was a little of a let down. The touch screen is awesome I do love that which is also new with the 955. Over all I do love my watch was just a little let down because I was really looking forward to the race widget.

Disappointed
I upgraded from a Fenix 5 to the Forerunner 955. It had the same things the new Fenix had that I wanted but the polymer case gave it a lower price tag. I was so excited I took it out of the box and went for a quick run to check out some newer features and it worked great! A few days later I looked at the body battery and training readiness and it was quite low. I figured it needed a week or so to figure out my patterns. I then realized it was not accurately tracking my sleep. It would either record no sleep data or show me waking up at 2am or only getting 3 hours of sleep. I tried adjusting the tightness, making sure my sleep window was updated under my info and have had no luck. Even when I go in and edit my sleep to the correct time my sleep score, body battery, and training readiness never update. A lot of the new features I was excited about don't display properly because my sleep is never read correctly. Now I'm over here about to have to spend even more money on a different new Garmin to purchase a model that works. After doing some searching I've seen this has been an issue for the 955 and there is no fix.

Overall Fantastic Watch
Bought the watch last week as an upgrade from my 2018 Forerunner 35. Needless to say it is a MAJOR upgrade and I love it so far. One disappointment as compared to the 35 is that I cannot seem to have km and Celsius show on the watch, only the app.

Still on the fence
I had to send my first 955 back to Garmin because it rebooted it’s self during 2 runs. Other than that I love it. The gps is more accurate and I love all the metrics it provides. Just hope I can depend on it during my marathon training cycles for Chicago and Boston.

Good but often disconnects from phone
Only issue is the watch shows it is disconnected from my phone even though it still receives notifications, txt, etc. It is misses information like weather during the morning report. It isn’t until I go to the Garmin Connect app and refresh my watch connection that it shows connected

Lightweight watch but that's pretty much it
You'll be much better off getting a Fenix than this. This is a lightweight watch, but lacks a good display. You're paying a fortune for a lacklustre display. Its pretty much a basic Garmin watch with a long battery life. I would much rather sacrifice the battery life for a better display and interface. Sorry Garmin. Look at the competition out there. You can do better.

Great improvement from the 935
I skipped the 945 upgrade and went from the 935 to the 955. More data points, training readiness, body battery, better screen, music integration. Some of those features were already in the 945, but it was a great improvement overall.

Impressed and grateful for such amazing tech.
(1) It's my first watch with music. The initial set up wasn't difficult, and it's easy to add music from Spotify. I don't have to carry my phone anymore. (2) It was easy to pair with my earbuds. (4) I linked my Garmin to a Trainning Peaks account, in which my coah uploads my workouts. When I start my running, I could hear the instructions on my earbuds. Astounding technology.

Whoa! What a difference from my 935 and other previous generations of this watch over the years.
The 935 was a big change from the previous models, but this!
The clarity, the features, and the way the buttons feel. Love the payment and music feature. I used to get annoyed having to hold my phone or if it was in a phone pocket on my shorts and dealing with it randomly switching songs, podcast, etc due to sweat. Now I can leave the phone at home and still have my wife track me for emergencies(hopefully not).
And the assistance button on the watch!
Love this watch! Wish I would have upgraded sooner!
Thank you, Garmin!
Looking forward to rocking the fresh white 955 this year while racing!

my first multi sport watch. definitely enjoy the morning review and suggested workouts. this watch is jam packed with features most of which I haven't figured out yet or may never use but I think in this case more is better. wish it worked more seamlessly with bike computer during triathlons as I don't want both data files uploading to training peaks but I guess deleting one file is no big deal.

This was a mistake to buy
First step out of Polar universe. Really annoying that this topwatch for multisport athletes only can sync 25 workouts, so if you lay up a whole year of training in the calendar the watch will vibrate and show a warning on screen that you are over the limit... for every workout that is over the limit....every time the watch syncronize...
I have normally 4 workouts planned each day, which makes one week of planned activity to much for this top of the line model. Easy work around would be to be able to choose how many days ahead to syncronize, but not even that is possible. This was a huge mistake to buy, going back to Polar.

Outstanding Watch!
I’ve had the 955 for about a month now and I’m extremely pleased w/ the purchase. I’m primarily a trail/road runner. My everyday watch has been a 245 which I believed could not easily be improved upon until I began researching the 255 and 955. The added features found on both of the newer models (All Systems, Multi-Band, barometric altimeter, HRV, Morning Report, Garmin Pay, etc.) were big improvements on a great running watch. I struggled between the 955 and 255 and, in the end, believed the higher price of the 955 was justified given the mapping features, battery life and the touchscreen (originally, not on my wishlist but super handy when obsessing over the sleep data and run metrics on the watch). I didn’t necessarily want a larger sized watch but when I compared the 255 and 955 side by side the size difference was nominal. I’ve worn the 955 for the past month continually and, to me, it’s as comfortable as the 245 for everyday wear.

Great watch
I received this as a Christmas gift and have been extremely happy with it no for 3 months. I previously had a 935, which was a great watch, but the 955 is far superior. For sports, the HR and GPS is more accurate than my 935 (or other devices). I don't see weird spikes or drops in HR that occasionally experienced with the 935.
The general health and recovery sensors and algorithms are quite good. The watch somehow picked up that was getting sick and recommended I focus on rest before I even started to feel bad. The sleep tracking seems quite good in that it frequently correlates to how I feel.

Significant but not transformational improvement
I bought an FR 955 about 2 weeks ago.
I was initially hesitant, because I didn’t see additional sensors to make it a game changer (that was with the 945), but the improved sensors can make the difference.
Power, stamina and HRV are really useful.
There are still some glitches in the integration phone app/watch.
It would be great to have stamina as one of the parameters to base workouts on

Disappointing Software and Huge Glass Bezel
I was really excited to “upgrade” from my excellent and reliable Forerunner 245M. I was looking forward to the larger screen and additional training features. Unfortunately, after more than 7 months, the software is still extremely buggy.
I wish Garmin would simply make a light-weight (50g) variant of the Fenix line for triathletes. It’s frustrating that Garmin doesn’t use the same base software on Fenix and Forerunner lines because the Fenix is more stable.
Additionally, the glass bezel (black ring around the usable screen) is too big. I thought it wouldn’t bother me that much when I bought it, but I was wrong. The screen looks very dated.
I can’t recommend this watch.

I’ve been really pleased with all of the features — including some things I didn’t really expect to use, like suggested workouts. Everything synchs well with my iPhone and PowerBeats headphones. I was hesitant about spending so much money on a running watch, but it’s turned out to be a great purchase.

I am not able to see VO2, I cannot install the new version 11.12. The watch says "install update", reboots, then says "update successfully to version9.15". It does thatn 5-10 times a day. Garmin express shows watch as up to date.
I cannot download apps because the watch is not running the latest version.

HORRIBLE
Third newer version of Garmin. All 3 FAILED to connect to any HR monitor, while other watches and devices I have connect to the HR monitors I tried. Also, most of the data that are important do NOT work... Not on Garmin Connect, not on the Watch. Garmin IQ doesn't load the apps (loaded 3 apps; stopped; there's plenty of space). I checked and the version is up to date.

I've worn a forerunner 235, 645, 745, and most recently the Fenix 6x pro. I'll have to admit I love the look of the Fenix 6x pro but for running it feel heavy on the wrist. The 955 is a perfect blend of the Fenix and Forerunner models without the weight which is very important to me when training. I also like the touchscreen feature to move through the screen. This is my favorite watch I've ever worn.

The Swiss Army of GPS Fitness Watches
This watch does it all. A mindboggling, at times, myriad of activity/applications to choose from. Triathlete activities pre-loaded, but easily removed and/or customizeable, keep the ones you want remove those you do not. Add many others, Nordic, Class, Back Country, Cross-Country Skiing options (for me) Downhill, etc for those that like the lifts and the mountain. Golf, (not so much me) Hiking, Walking, Running, Cycling (road, gravel, mountain, wow!) All me, and Yoga (who is not interested in some flexibility?) Pickle Ball (everyone seems to be playing it) and on and on and on.
Those are just activities, how about music? 2,000 songs and or podcast space is available on your watch if you like to groove or catch up on your favorite podcasts while on the active move? Health insights galore. Struggle with sleep? Tons of sleep data, I can about guess my score before I receive my morning review, which also suggests activity level for that day, helps you be kind to your body when your proverbial 'battery' is less than recharged.
All that and it looks pretty cool and can be customized to your liking in terms of preloaded or downloadable watch faces.
Concerned about too much tech and not knowing where to start once it is your own? Check out dozens of you tube tutorials for added use insights and get out there and have fun in the post pandemic times, it is time to shake off that couch and the FR 955 will help you do so and not need to be tethered to the PC recharging, with a battery that can last up to ~ 14 days so you can get off your softer bits and firm them up for a healthier you!

So, OWS tracking is top notch! Way better than my 935, the optical HRM works well in the water, big improvement here.
One issue, is when I get notifications. It shows an icon then the text, I do not like having to wait 5 seconds for the icon to go away and to see the text. Need an option to disable that.

Exceeded My Expectations
My Forerunner 955 is replacing my aging Forerunner 935 (5 years old to me). Big difference in responsiveness and accuracy. The detail in each workout is almost mind numbing but they all work together to provide me the information I need to keep me on track. I have followed the recommended workout, albeit not as slow as suggested (just can’t go that slow) and have seen much improvement in my stamina and distance.

Good Value and Great Specs, But Buggy
I’ve switched from a forerunner 245M, a 945 LTE, and now a 955 watch. While I loved the option for LTE with my 945, I simply couldn’t resist higher music storage, more accurate GPS tracking, and the addition of a touch screen.
I’d say firstly that the best of all these additions was the GPS tracking: it’s extremely fast at getting a reliable signal and I love being able to review my tracks now that they can encapsulate a better picture of my running journeys, and I have yet to encounter an offensive case of miscalculated distances or speeds. The multiband is simply a great spec to have. As for the rest of the features, I’d say they are relatively subjective in their usefulness. I like listening to podcasts on my runs, so having a higher capacity for music and stuff like that is a nice thing to have in a watch of this price range. I also do find myself using the touchscreen quite a bit as it’s especially useful for scrolling the menus and viewing the navigation map: the best part of having such a thing on this device. I do feel it is underutilized in some places however, as I think it doesn’t quite make sense not to have a qwerty style keyboard for quick messages, at least for android as iOS is still very exclusive to the ecosystem that Apple has built. All the other features of this watch are pretty much the same as all the available options from Garmin though. I know it now sports a new sensor for supposedly more accurate heart rate monitoring, pulse ox monitoring, and is now being used to calculate HRV, but honestly I haven’t yet observed a drastic improvement over the previous sensor in terms of accuracy. But, for the price Garmin has posted for the 955, it’s a pretty good deal: you get the latest and greatest tech from Garmin in a lightweight device that will last years for a price much cheaper than even their last gen forerunner 945/945 LTE. I really love this device and the practical aspects of owning a Garmin watch, as battery life is fantastic while offering advanced training metrics and options to get users fit, and as a standalone watch, of course it gives you everything you’d want from one, and has mostly satisfactory smart features, though as I mentioned with the lack of a proper keyboard, it still is a bit away from being a perfect hybrid of a sportwatch and smartwatch, but it’s close enough for now.
However, there is one big flaw with this device, and that is the numerous bugs. Sometimes I hold the music button and before I can even scroll or do anything, the menu backs out. The map navigation was only a few weeks ago rather finicky with the tough screen, as even a little swipe to the left backed out of the map and moving about the image was really tricky, though it appears to have been fixed in the 11.12 version update. People have also noticed that editing power/heart rate zones is useless as the watch will just revert back to syncing its own calculated values. People have noted battery drain issues as well, though I can’t personally attest to that, it just seems to be a common problem given how many complain about it. Luckily though, Garmin seems to be patching all these things, and that’s the best part at least: all the bugs are absolutely fixable through software, and at the very least, the core functionality of the watch seems to be very stable and usable, which is why I’ve given this product a 4/5 and not a 3.
Overall, you’re getting the best of the forerunner Garmin watches in one device, with a better price, and you are also getting new key features and more in the future. I think altogether if you’re new to the Garmin world and want to pick up a watch now for running or marathoning and want more longevity from your purchase, I’d totally recommend this watch or the cheaper 255 as it does pretty much the same things, just less music storage, no touch screen, and shorter battery life.

Great Watch Upgrade!
I had used an original Garmin Vivo Active since about 2016. It was a good watch and served me well but it had gotten a cracked screen and was starting to glitch a bit (hard to charge, distances not quite correct on some runs). Six years for a fitness watch was a good run so I requested the 955 as a Christmas present and was so happy to unwrap it on Christmas morning. The features and functionality are so much more advanced (obviously). I feel like I graduated from the kids table to the adult table. I have been using the Garmin Coach in Connect for a half marathon training plan and love it. I like to be able to get music from my watch and run free without the phone. I like the option to use the touch screen or the buttons to navigate. I love all the health data I am receiving and see both my training and health progressing. I highly recommend this watch.

Making me a better athlete...
I bought this 4 weeks ago. I am still learning what all of the metrics mean and how to be responsive to its recommendations for optimization. I am consistently surprised at how intuitive the software is and the navigation.
Struggling to identify why I have such gaps in my low intensity loads. I do wish it was more accepting of weight training as something that progresses your overall fitness. The only way to really move metrics seems to be cardio and consistent heart rate activities rather than intervals (weight training). But hopefully that will be adjusted as this watch becomes a favorite of more cross training athletes.

I've worn Garmin watches since the Fenix 3 (4, 5, and 5X). I switched to the Forerunner 945 because I preferred the lighter weight. The FR 955 is a fantastic upgrade and I'm extremely pleased with it.

Not thrilled
Not happy. The 955 does a lot of things much more than I actually need. But it's not user friendly. My 235 was much more user friendly. The 955 is difficult to retrieve data from an activity. When I run I want to know the lap pace and heart rate when done. It was easy to see that data right away. With the 955 it is not readily available and difficult to wade thru the maze of data to try and find it. Setting up data screens was much easier in the 235 but is a challenge with the 955. Sorry I bought it.

Marathon again after 23 years.
Great watch. As I am 58, I have to be much more careful how I train. With the built in systems that monitor when to rest and when to train, energy reserves, effort, sleep, resting heart rate, I can give each workout 110 percent. Wouldn’t train without my Garmin Forerunner 955. Psalm 139.

Focused Features
As a runner, GPS accuracy is a must not sacrifice feature. While my Garmin Fenix 6s was no slouch it wasn't as fine tuned as the Forerunner 955 is for running. The lighter weight, always outstanding battery life, combined with the pixel perfect GPS accuracy on the map makes the watch my Pick-of-the-year for running gadgets.

Great features, poor battery life
I have been using the Fenix 6 Sapphire having gone to that from the Forerunner 935. While I really like the display on the 955 I have to say I’m really disappointed in the battery life. If things go well I can get almost two days before dropping below 10% or going dead altogether. My Fenix easily goes 7+ days as did my Forerunner 935.
If not for the really bad battery life the 955 would be the best Forerunner to date.

Amazing Watch with Awesome Features!
I bought this watch about a month ago and it is my favorite garmin watch yet! I’ve had a Fenix 5s as a hand-me-down from my sister, a Venu 2 Plus and now a Forerunner 955. I loved all the features that the Fenix has but didn’t need that many features so I upgraded to the Venu 2. The amoled screen on the Venu 2 was stunning! However, the Venu 2 lacked the features I loved in my Fenix. Then, I thought about getting a Whoop band to compliment the Venu but didn’t want two watch bands and two devices to charge. Also, the monthly payment of the Whoop deterred me away. I found the Forerunner and with extensive research, realized the Forerunner 955 was the way to go. The forerunner 955 has all of the health stats and training stats that I could get from the Whoop and some! I love the ability to track my HRV, training readiness and training effect. The battery life for the Forerunner is amazing! I charged it once in about my month of having it. It’s lightweight but holds up so good during running and CrossFit. I love the touchscreen and the ability to turn the touchscreen off during workouts. The only negative about the Forerunner is the lack of amoled screen. Other than that, the price of the forerunner is really good compared to the new Fenix’s and Epix. Overall, I highly recommend the Forerunner 955!

Purchased because of the new HRV metrics
I haven't clocked the minimum three weeks to take full advantage of all the metrics that are available to be read accurately by the GFR955, but so far, I am loving it! I wish the clock face was slightly brighter by default, and the emails and notifications can be timed to remain at a certain duration, but on the whole, I'm good with this. The sleep app clocks in the total with high accuracy, as do the oxygen levels, and my subjective stress levels, which the GFR955 measures objectively. Comfortable to wear, quick to charge, slow to drain battery, and easily readable font. Highly versatile smartwatch. Garmin's best yet!

Debating if it’s worth it??! 100%!!
I thought Garmin only made GPS for vehicles. Other than that I had no idea they made watches. I started to watch Nick Bare as I am training for my first half marathon and marathon and saw he was using Garmin products. At first I thought “yeah yeah whatever”. As soon as I saw that video it felt like everyone I was running into had Garmin watches lol. I went back and watched how he used his watch and was still debating if I should get a watch. 1 week before my half marathon I got the Forerunner 955 and WOW! This watch can do everything and more. I’m still learning all of the features but I feel this definitely helps you track your progress which will help know where you’re at and how to improve your workouts! I only wish they had like a salesman at stores to go over everything. Although I use a ton of features I know there is still a ton features more that I could use to help me improve and hit my goals!
100% Recommend to anyone!

955 forerunner
I’m coming from the fenix 6s watch. I absolutely love the forerunner 955. It’s much lighter. The watch band that comes with the 955 is so much better than fenix. Battery life was about 9days on fenix
I’m getting between 11-15 days depending how much I use the gps.
The touch screen is very responsive. I wish I would’ve started with the forerunner watch series over the fenix. I’ll probably never go back to the fenix line up.
And I know I will never own another Apple Watch.
Garmin lifer!!!! I love the integration of the app and watch. Much easier to customize to your specific goals and needs.

Good, but buggy
After 2 weeks of use the watch seems like an improvement over the 945, especially GNSS performance. However, a particularly annoying bug exists with backlight settings during an activity where the gesture feature is triggered by normal arms swings during a run - basically the light will stay on for the duration of the activity.

A master tool requiring a matching learning curve
This tool is brilliant. It should in nearly every way support and improve training. My only frustration is the learning curve to maximize the benefits. I suggest that the fine folks at Garmin challenge themselves even more to find better learning support for new and existing owners. In all other ways I am beyond thrilled to have this tool. My 995 is astounding!

Great Functions & Battery, Face Scratches Easily
The functions on this watch are great! Having had a Garmin Vivoactive 3, I have experienced a learning curve on how to configure and operate the functions. The online manual is somewhat sketchy, so I have needed lots of YouTubes and experimenting. The battery life is fantastic, totally in line with what is claimed. I thought about the solar version, but this is not necessary for me. To take full advantage of the map functionality download/update all maps with Garmin Express and consider setting map detail to high (battery usage impact?). I still need to experience using the Forerunner 955 on a hike together with my Garmin inReach Mini2. The BAD NEWS: the watch face scratches very easily, having picked up a nasty scratch inside my house within a few days of purchase. Be sure to buy a screen protector and use it from the start (I now have one).

Accurate watch that really knows me
I've had nearly every model of Forerunner and the 955 is very impressive by how well it automatically knows my health and fitness status. It's helpful and motivating to have confirmation of my own perception, along with smart recommendations for my training. The GPS and pace accuracy seems spot on and noticeably improved over the 945 - as does the battery performance. The only issues I've had is that the timing of alerts during workouts (run and swim) seem a bit off. In swim workouts it sometimes starts or credits a lap when I didn't swim. I trust Garmin will work out these few bugs. It works OK in the quick-release mount for wrist and bike from my 945, but not perfectly. Too bad Garmin didn't just nail that and claim official support.

Was wanting to upgrade from my Fenix 3 to get wireless music so I wouldn't have to carry my phone on long runs. So far the 955 is exceeding my expectations. Only 2 weeks in, so it's still collecting a bunch of data points for the training readiness and body battery stats, but a huge improvement in providing insight.

Great Features
I bought a slightly used 955 from another runner which got me about a $50 discount off the $499 price. I am replacing a 945 which had fewer features. The 955 provides lots of excellent features and data that will help a runner plan and execute their training. This watch is designed for the running geeks among us. If you do not want to dig into the data, I recommend the 55 or 255. I like to look at all the data collected, but question the reliability of the sleep data since it does not account for naps or other rest periods outside of your normal sleep hours. I also do not use the music feature of the watch because I prefer to run without headphones. I do pair my watch with an older footpod. This allows me to get more accurate mileage on treadmills (which are notoriously not calibrated well for speed or distance). The watch does have an internal accelerometer which should be able to provide the same data as a footpod, but to me that data is not as accurate since it is on my wrist.

Great watch with so many features
I’ve had this watch for about a month and it’s not just a watch, it’s a tool with so many features and possibilities.
The training through the Garmin Coach feature is super cool. Just enter your race distance, race date, and the number of days you can train per week in the Connect app and it will create a customized training plan and send it to your watch. Wish I had this 15 years ago when I was just guessing at how to train for marathons.
Plus all the other features that can be used to determine your readiness (HRV, body battery) and then if your training is impacting your performance (VO2max), just to name a few.
So far, the watch has given me far greater insights into my fitness than I could have imagined.

Outstanding performance and value
I recently sold my beloved old Fenix 5X, after many years and literally thousands of tracked running miles — it served me well, but I just couldn't take the FOMO from seeing all the cool new features on newer Garmin watches. I considered the 965, but since I'm really more concerned with function over form, I figured the less-flashy screen and basically identical features would be good enough for me. I was right! This thing gives me everything I used regularly from my Fenix — which was probably overkill, since I really just do a lot of road and trail running, no kayaking or skydiving or shark-wrestling or whatever other activities the Fenix could track — plus a ton of features that I *thought* might just be superfluous, but turn out to be surprising accurate and helpful. All the body battery, load focus, etc. stuff seems to be way more helpful than I expected. The sleep and stress tracking seem way more accurate. Maps and GPS and all the regular functionality are as terrific as always. And after years of wearing that chunky Fenix, I can't believe how much lighter and more comfortable this is for daily use. I love it, and look forward to another few thousand miles of getting to know it better...

Love my watches
I used to have a Garmin Fenix ??6s and it was getting uncomfortable on my wrist, the nylon strap made it a little easier to wear but it still wasn’t a good solution (even if I loved my watches). So I was looking for a lighter, more comfortable Garmin model to wear. I prefer running and working out in the gym so the Forerunner is great for that. I chose the 955 over the newer model because I really liked the screen on the Fenix ??which is visible in different lighting conditions and doesn’t need to be constantly backlit. New features for me are the touchscreen, the Spotify app (I can run without my phone), the morning review and lots of new stats that help me understand my body. I find myself exercising and staying active with my new Forerunner 955 more than I did before and it really pushes me to achieve new goals.

Great, but too complicated.
Does what I wanted, but I don't know what half the readings mean. Manual is over 100 pages long. After a couple weeks I can get it to do what I need. Other features are fine, maybe some day I'll figure them out.

Plenty of information and uses.
I bought the 955 for the features - I road race and triathlon so the watch is a valuable tool. Having issues playing music on the watch.

Excellent smart watch.
I upgraded from an Apple Watch SE to the Garmin 955 forerunner. It is superior in every way I can think of. I would recommend this watch to anyone at any level of endurance sports.

Moved from AE. No regrets
I am a cyclist and had been using Apple Watch and a Whoop band for my data needs. When my whoop renewal came up I decided to move to Garmin to replace both. Still getting to know all the features but really enjoying it so far. The Garmin ecosystem for my daily wear and cycling (have a Garmin computer) is so much better now and I don’t know why I didn’t jump sooner. I never used my AW as a phone replacement and the 955 gives me all the features I needed.

GReat watch BUT got one problem
I bought the watch 2 years ago, I use it for running, swimming and cycling. I'm happy with the hours, the size, the information content of the screen, the accuracy of the sensors, I stopped using the chest heart rate monitor. It’s an almost perfect watch, but a month ago there was a leak through the buttons, the repair shop said that they don’t provide a guarantee after the repair, due to the design of the watch (adhesive screen), now I’m ordering Instinct 2x Solar, but no one is immune from leaks through the buttons. I recommend the watch, it is a very successful watch. if you exclude swimming.

Great watch. I love it.
Purchase this watch after by son got one and raved about it. It does everything I need. Heart monitor, track workouts, sleep, etc. A little pricy, however it is worth every penny in my humble opinion.

So much information!
What I really like:how much information is provided, fast GPS acquisition, accurate, large screen. I am coming out of a Garmin 245 and was worried about the larger size of the 945 but it actually stays centered on my wrist better than the smaller 245. I am getting about a week (7-8 hours of GPS) per charge which is about triple what the old 245 was giving me. Overall this the best fitness watch I have owned by a long shot!

Piece of crap
Had my Forerunner 955 for a week now. Still can’t get it to pair with the Garmin app, or connect to Bluetooth. Went to do a WiFi network search and my watch is still frozen. Can’t shut it down. Can’t do anything with it. Going back to my Forerunner 245. Much better product. If I could give the 955 fewer than zero stars I would.

Reliable multi sport tracking
I have been running, swimming and biking with the 955 for a month and it has been a game changer in terms of tracking training progress and effort with reliable heart rate regardless of sport.

Lasted 18 months
Bought new, screen is unimpressive and drab compared with display on G965. Watch lasted less than 18 months before pulse oximetry quit working, hours interacting with Garmin techs to be told I could pay $180 for a replacement. No thanks.

Best Sport watches
The watch is great for sports lovers. a few disadvantages: the glass was cracked, without external influences. The battery lasts about a week, I want more.

good solid watch
I have had the FR955 since Mach 7th. The watch is slightly bigger than the FR945 LTE that I had previously had but I don't notice it at all. The battery life is unbelievable. I run everyday, averaging from 5-16 miles and the battery life lasts for days. I also have at least 1-2 track speed sessions and the watch has performed flawless. This isn't any dig on the FR955 but I wish Garmin would have continued the LTE function with the 955 series like the FR945 had. I do not run with my watch so the Incident detection is useless to me. Something I would like to pass on involves the Livetrack. Because I do not run with my phone, I have to turn off my auto start live track because the watch will say connected but when I get far enough away from my phone, it will notify me that Livetrack was disconnected. If my running route brings me close to the location of my phone it will say Livetrack connected. You get the idea. It becomes annoying if you are doing loops near your phone. Garmin said I have to turn Livetrack off so the alert will not constantly pop up. Other than that there isn't any negative about the watch. The buttons are crisp, easily programmable, navigation through the functions is easy, and the background light is bright. The accuracy is spot on. I am very happy with the upgrade.

packed to the brim with watch features
Hey there! So, I really needed to get rid of my old polar m400 watch. It was about time for an upgrade, you know? I'm all about that touch screen and control buttons. Size of screen is perfect and well designed.
