Don't buy this if you ever plan to change your network info
This printer only worked for a short time until I had to change my network information. After spending many hours trying to reconnect, I have given up. So as long you never change your network information, ever, this printer should work fine. Also, it cannot be connected via USB

This Printer Sucks
This printer will annoy you and you will want to throw it away. I bought this for a low use site where we needed copy and print. This things is a pain in the butt. First off you need to register it with an app and it needs constant internet connection to phone home to HP to constantly remind you to sign up for a printer subscription plan. You have to use the stupid app to connect to the printer to set it up, and register it with detailed info so they know exactly how much to charge you if for some reason you are dumb enough to sign up for their toner program. You can log into the printer but there is no setting to turn off the phone home and it will stop printing after about 10 pages until it can connect to the internet. Great for a site that has no internet! Why HP does this thing need to see the internet. Huge security risk having printers and edge devices talking to the internet. Its a printer, it shouldn't need internet to keep working. I can't wait for the government to put the foot down on this subscription forcing BS that you are doing. BUY A BROTHER PRINTER!

connectivity is sporadic. At times it works excellent then next time my desk top computer that is within 10 feet of the HP M140 says it is off line or can not connect to it. It is frustrating.

Easy Setup, and you can easily print from your iPhone
Great little printer. It was very easy to set up with the HP app. I also like that it has AirPrint, so I can easily print emails directly through my iPhone. It also prints very quickly compared to my old HP inkjet.

It would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a would be user of this printer to set it up. It cost me three days of effort and $1k worth of online help for it to print from only one of my two hp computers.

I've had this printer for 5 months. It seemed like the perfect solution - small, great print quality, fast, good scanner BUT the connectivity is awful. You can only connect to this printer via wi-fi* and the printer has to be connected to the internet all the time, and you have to be logged in to your HP account to use it. And that's where the problems start, because this printer doesn't have a screen to access wi-fi settings, you can only edit them from your PC. So if your PC loses connection to the printer you're in a whole world of pain. And this seems to happen a lot. If you're willing to lose an hour talking to HP's support chatbot 1 out of 4 times you want to use your printer, this is the model for you. If you want to retain your sanity, it ain't. Bring back plain old USB connection. My solution? I'm taking it back to the shop for a refund.
(*this printer does have a USB port hidden under a sticker on the back, but the printer still has to be connected to the internet via wi-fi, which makes it totally pointless.)

Do not waste your money
I bought this printer and have been in a never ending cycle of resetting the printer, the hp smart application, trying different accounts, different WiFis, different devices, and have yet to be able to finish the setup. It will not print without being registered through the hp smart app and will not finish the setup through the application either. Also I needed to look up the support pages manually because the "contact support" button on the error leads me to a broken link with a json error response in the browser. So much wasted time and money.

The printer, scanner, and copier works well, but the hookup could be easier. Having to connect to the WiFi first before using the printer cable is rediculous. Took me 3 hours to hook up the WiFi

We bought this printer to use at the office. We have it connected via a usb cable for a computer that can’t connect to the Wi-Fi due to regulations. We can’t get it installed on that computer. We threw the box away before we installed it. So no return. We have a 180 dollar paperweight.

Just need a printer not a relationship
I am throwing this printer in the garbage. All I wanted was a simple laser jet printer and scanner that I could plug in to the laptop (or connect via WIFI, whatever...) and not have to set up some useless account to get it to operate. I would highly recommend putting out a patch that removes this "feature".

I like the size and all the functions. It is a good value at the price I paid. I had some problems with tech support but they were resolved after a few tries. So far the printer seems prone to paper jams.
The bottom line is that I am satisfied with the product.

GREAT SO FAR
Only had this approx. 1 month and 386 copies, but so far, so good. I bought this to replace my inkjet HP which uses a lot of ink, including the color cartridge even when I use it almost always for black and white only. If I have done my math correctly, my inkjet is costing me approx. 15-20 cents per page for ink (never actually counted pages per cartridge and there is no copy counter on the printer), while this laser printer should cost approx. 5-6 cents per page if I get anywhere near the 900 pages per toner cartridge (which is what the toner cartridge box says). The starter toner cartridge that comes with the printer was good for 276 pages (the SMART APP notes total pages printed) and HP notes you can expect 200-300 pages. Given that, I am assuming I will get maybe 800+ pages on the $50 full capacity replacement toner cartridge. If so that will equate to approx. 6.26 cents per page which is fine by me. The only thing I don't like so far is there is no way to assess how much toner is left on the printer itself. until it gets low enough that a warning light comes on. But the HP SMART APP. shows you a graphic for toner remaining, although it is just a bar picture (no % listed). Likewise when the toner cartridge gets low, a yellow light comes on the printer and the SMART APP will tell you toner is low, but neither tells you how much toner is left. It just tells you it is low. It would be nice to have a more accurate indicator of toner remaining, but maybe that isn't possible with laser toner cartridges. on any laser printer. Overall, so far I like this printer. It was easy to set up, easy to use. Oh I cant find any reference anywhere as to how to set printer to use the least amount of toner like maybe a default DRAFT setting, so I have to set it to draft each time I print. But i'm not sure that even matters bc nowhere in the online manual does it refer to ANY print quality settings. So maybe it doesn't make any difference on this printer.

I've always owned HP InkJets and this is my first HP LaserJet. It's fantastic and I love my little, but powerful printer! It was super easy to setup and prints quietly. Toner is also super economical!

Poor Wi-Fi Connection
I bought this printer because I wanted a small footprint. It’s small but the Wi-Fi connection is awful. What also makes it frustrating is that you can not connect it any other way. The printer is 2 feet from the mesh router and computer. If yo can’t connect— you can’t print! It goes offline so often and it’s painstaking and time consuming to get it to connect each time.

Bring Back USB Ports
I would've preferred to connect the printer via USB, a fairly ubiquitous in the industry for the past 20 years, but this model does not have a USB port. In the first two weeks of home use, the device has dropped off the wifi network twice, (previous Brother printer was network stable for 2+ years, but wasn't supported by new check-writing software,) and after each disconnect HP 140we requires a lengthy and clumsy reconnect process through HP Smart app for Mac.

This printer has been nothing but a pain since buying in. It was a pain to install, it's a pain to use, and it's incredibly unreliable.
I bought this product in store and wasn't told it required a completely unnecessary constant internet connection, which means if you have an internet outage it's completely useless.
You have to install "HP Smart" to use the thing, ironically named as there's nothing smart about this piece of software. It's intuitive, keeps changing your print defaults, and has a tantrum every time it downloads an update (which seems to be several times a week).
The biggest issue, which i suspect is related to the useless HP Smart software, is that the printer will arbitrarily decide it's "offline". At this juncture you can turn it off and on again or spend an hour trying to access HP's support, but the only thing that seems to work is completely uninstalling and reinstalling the printer. It will sometimes go "offline" in the middle of a print run, so it'll spit out four pages, then you'll have to uninstall the printer and reinstall it before running another print job for the last four pages.

I love this printer, it's the perfect size for a small office. The print quality is superb, there is no smudging and image is always very crisp. I love the fact that I can print from my phone from anywhere. I definitely recommend this printer if you are looking for a small printer that packs a BIG punch.

Horrible waste of money
Total crap. This piece of garbage regularly disconnects from the internet and is difficult to reconnect. I broke the flimsy paper holder and now it's garbage. The paper needs to be perfectly aligned on a cheap, thin piece of plastic attached by tiny plastic pins. It's clearly designed to last a month and then become trash.

I use to be a big fan of HP. I love their products. They were solid and reliable.
I took a run at this HP Laserjet M140we. For the most part the setup was a different than what I am used to.
Plugin printer, install drivers, away it goes.
Now you have to install a dumb app on your phone to set it up on your network. Give me a LAN port and drivers any day and I'll put this on the network to print wirelessly myself.
Then you have to register the device and on top of that some how bind the device to an HP account which you need to setup. Once registered you have to subscribe to their subscription ink service. This is where I draw the line.
As convenient it may be to have toner suddenly show up when you're near out. What if I DO NOT want to subscribe to this service? I may only print once a year. This starter toner will last me a decade.
WELL ... if you don't subscribe to their service and jump through the nightmare of hoops to set this up the printer.
IT WILL commit suicide after 30 days of use.
This is the most horrible experience I have had with HP products which has permanently turned me off from this brand. I will be taking my business elsewhere. I hear Lexmark knocking. Good bye HP. Hopefully one day you'll get back on track with the brand that made this once great company. But not now.

Ups and Downs of the HP LaserJet M140we Printer
The printer itself is quality and does a very clean job of printing, scanning, and copying. I was satisfied with all of the usual aspects. Not a fan of the chipped toner cartridge and the requirement to replace the toner with HP cartridges only. Nor, am I fan at all of the HP Smart software. If you buy this printer, do yourself a favor and download and install the Full Feature Driver Package from HP and plan to use a USB cable for installation (only). It makes the whole process much simpler. And if you have multiple networks showing up during installation to choose from, make certain to choose the 2.4 GHz network. The printer won't work on a 5 GHz network.

Very Disappointed
After installing all the necessary apps. for my printer,..I'm having a constant issue with loosing connectivity. I've lost countbas to how mant tickets I currently have out there regardingthyis issue. I need a permanent solution for this verry annoying issue. Not much point having a printer that you cannot print on. I do most of my work on an HP chromebook. I bught my current printer because it was recommended as highly compatable with my chromebook.

I like the small size of this model. It was very easy to set up.
The wifi connection is strong.
The amount of time it takes to be ready after you turn it on is very quick. It's easy to adjust the settings for how light or dark you want the printing. The free instant ink is a plus.

Good printer, but......
I have owned printers from different companies and generally like the HP LaserJet product line. I have not used it much, but for the few times I did, I have had no issues. The major thing I do not appreciate however, is that they try to force you to be connected to the internet to use it. BAD HP, BAD. Fortunately being a IT Tech, I was able to install the drivers offline and still use it. I hate to think how regular consumers feel after buying this printer. For this reason, I will be looking at a different company for a printer in the future.

good product. good price. buggy first time setup
good product. I like that it is fairly compact. decent price. wireless setup still had issues. Mine wouldnt complete. So I decided to goto my router, figure out the IP assigned, went to the internal web server, ran a fimware update and then boom. setup worked flawlessly.
Hp, if you have setup bugs, please make the firmware update the first part of the setup process!

Very Bad Wi Fi Connection but No USB connection with this printer, not recommend AT ALL!
I bought this printer just one year ago, the Wi Fi printing is very bad, it stopped many times. I tried to recover it by myself but failed. I have to call technical support every time. The technical support is very excellent although took/wasted long time very time, but this time they refused to support me except from I pay $19.99 because of just expired 1 day, which means you face a risk that you cannot recover your printer freely after one year. I like the USB connected printer, I DON'T LIKE HP FI WI CONNECTED PRINTER, IT IS VERY NOT STABLE, ALWAYS STOP WORK, AND WE CANNOT REVOERY BY MYSELF.

Won't work on 5G network
I have lots of HP products and am usually happy with my purchases. I bought this printer for my daughter when she went to university because it had a small footprint and could do a few simple functions. I made sure to buy the latest version of this printer which has an 'e' in the code and was slightly more expensive than the older version. I consulted with HP on the purchase. Unfortunately, this model doesn't work with a 5G network. When we set it up at home it worked but when my daughter tried to use it at university she couldn't. There is no option to use this printer with a cable as it must be connected to the internet to work. The work-around we were given was that she had to disconnect from the university network and then connect to her phone using her data to use this printer. Don't buy if you are on a 5G network. I hope this review helps someone out there. HP should warn people about this issue. Ideally, I could have returned this printer for a model that will work without the internet, but that wasn't an option given to me.

I bought this printer in a local store here in Québec (a store like staples)
Horrible printer, it works once in a month. It keeps giving alert that papers are stuck (bourrage in french), it cannot grab the paper. A nightmare. Waste of money. I tried it four month approx without being able to print more than 3 sheets of papers.

Bought the printer in November. Was getting ready to print time critical bills and it stopped printing. Turns out that if you don't sign up for the instant ink service, the printer shuts itself down after a set time. Tried to update and turn on the service. Printer could not communicate with our 5ghz WiFi. Error popped up, must be connected to 2.4ghz to update.
Was a solid printer/scanner until this point. After reading realized the 140w (no "e") which costs $40 more, does not require a service and connection to keep running. The 140w was not in stock when I bought the 140we. If I had known or even if there was advertising explaining the ongoing connection requirement, I would have never purchased it. Going out to find a 140w tomorrow, only because I stocked up on toners and don't want to waste more money by throwing them away. The 140we printer is getting a sledgehammer taken to it and after the 140w dies will be the last HP product I buy. I used to love the product, multiple laptops and printers owned....never again.

Pleasant Experience!
Printer purchased assuming that it had a port for wired connection. It didn't! We promptly returned it assuming an exchange, however, we misunderstood and a credit was promptly issued and no exchange was made. That is fined as we will be purchasing another printer from HP.

Best home printer ever!
I love this printer! The setup was simple, fast and painless! The print quality is great. Prints fast- so much better than my old ink jet printer. I highly recommend this product.

Save yourself the wasted time, frustration and money - DO NOT PURCHASE
I can't recommend this printer due to the annoying HP+ part of it, and needing an app to set up the printer itself. This printer worked for about 11 months, and then stopped. It is offline/can't connect to the internet despite internet being there and nothing about the computer, router, or internet having changed. This is my father's printer, and he has spent numerous hours trying to troubleshoot the connection and the printer. When he could not get results, he asked me to step in. I spent about 3 hours one day working through Windows Troubleshooting, HP Smart troubleshooting, reading HP user forums with questions and answers. I have gone through the Router as well to see if that was the issue. Yesterday I chatted with two different HP support agents who each took control of my computer remotely, and the issue is still not resolved. That all took about 3 hours yesterday. Last night I brought the printer to my own house to see if I could get it to work on my own internet and computer, and still cannot get anywhere. It says "Attention required" any time I try to print, even though all troubleshooters say printer is working.

The printer is great. I'm not sure about how the instink program is going to work, nor how to get out of the program if I want.
