Good Dock but pricey.
Good Dock but pricey, also larger than normal due to higher power output. We also had an issue with ASUS Pro Art Monitors connected to this dock using Display Port to Display Port cables (monitors kept connecting / disconnecting). Display Port to HDMI worked without issues, however this may be a Windows 11 issue and not a hardware issue.

Another Excellent HP Product !
It has been years since I used a docking station and they have come a long way to todays product, which can handle 12 connections. The HP Thunderbolt Dock 280W G4 w/Combo Cable has operated without any problems and is far superior to any thing used prior to this. The thing I like most is the fact that all devices related to my computer connect to the dock directly and one switch controls all. PDMyers

Works great on my Z-Book
Works great on my Z-Book. I would give it 5 stars if it that a headphone jack (I had to purchase new USB speakers). The power button on the dock starts the computer every time. In 2 weeks of use, it has been flawless powering 4 HD monitors (one is USB3)

Works for only 1 monitor - very frustrating!
Absolutely horrible and frustrating! Advertised as being able to handle 4 separate 4k monitors, but it will only do high resolution on one. I spent hours with my firm's IT department trying to get the resolution to match on 2 HP Z27 monitors and it will not work.

Works okay
Received this with a new work PC last week. I have 2 monitors connected to the Display Ports. On a regular basis, the second monitor goes blank for a few seconds and then generally comes back. Had the same issue with the G2 dock this one replaced. Thought it might be my monitors but I swapped and still having issues. Verified that I have the latest firmware. Co-workers have also had problems with the same dock. Minus 2 stars as this appears to be a long-standing problem.

Buggy - Displays Turn Black Randomly
I have 2x 27" monitors (1080p) connected to the display ports and 1x 55" LED TV (1080p) connected to the HDMI Port on the docking station. One connection to the docking station will turn to black for a few seconds then come back. It happens to all the connected devices and happens randomly several times a day. Annoying!

Still has a few bugs
As with the dock that I had previously on the EliteBook from 2018, the connected monitors will turn to black for a few seconds every once in a while. With my old dock, this was eventually fixed with a patch, but it was frustrating that it didn't work out of the box. The new dock has the same issue, which is remarkable to say the least.

This isn't your grandad's docking station
We use these almost exclusively at the VA where I live. It supports up to 3 monitors and has a plethora of USB ports, including one USB-C. For video out it has two display link ports and one HDMI port. In order to use more than one monitor, just install the HP Displaylink drivers. In the event that you are rough on the docking station cable that connects to your computer, you can actually unscrew the bottom and replace it with a standard USB-C to USB-C cable, although you may have to trim some of the plastic from the bottom to put everything back together correctly. My home laptop requires 280 watts to charge, and this is one of the few docking stations that supports that.

Thunderbolt to the Rescue
Some new ENVY laptops require 200 watts of power... This can not be over the USB-C port alone... The Thunderbolt is both a USB-C connection to the laptop and a power supply in one box... It's clean and stores well on the desk... Thank you for the solution HP...

Don't expect to use two monitors, even if purchased as a bundle.
I purchased this as part of a two monitor bundle, yet both monitors come with HDMI cables, and there is only one HDMI port. You cannot speak with anyone at HP that will help with sending the correct cords without an additional cost. Even thought this was purchased as a bundle and should work together. HP customer support is the worst.

Works well *after* a firmware update!
Used with an Omen 17. It had several weird issues initially, particularly with USB. They were resolved with a firmware update. There is no automatic update, you must find/download/install them manually. That should be automatic with a new device! After that, however, it has been great. I am not (yet) stressing it with more than one 4K display, but expect to soon. I guess I will need to manually check for updates in the future too since it isn't automatic.

Hard to come by reliable info
I got this after verifying that this worked with my ZBook Firefly 15G8. Specifically I needed the top button function to turn on the laptop when it's closed. I'm sad to report that this function does not work on my ZBook Firefly 15G8.
It's possible that that specific function is locked down by my company but I will never know for sure--this information is extremely difficult to come by. I purchased this as well as the HP G4 single-cable 120W version and they both failed to turn on my laptop when closed using the power/wake button on top of the dock--although the display and USB functions worked as far as I could tell.
The docks themselves are super nice and well designed but without that wake function, very over-priced even for HP computers.

Not worth the money
I bought this almost a month ago and have spent more time trying to figure out problems with it than I appreciate. I am considering returning it before my 30-days are up. After updating firmware, and many drivers, it seems to function, except for the Ethernet connection. I have to use WI-FI or I can’t log into portals and sharePoint sites, email is troublesome if you have attachments. It causes a lot of frustration, but I have an HP Spectre 360 15 that requires at least a 135 charger or it doesn’t charge and I need to plug in the charger which then overcharges. Had to have the battery replaced because of it.

Excellent Investment
The newer block dock requires less space than the original docks. I have had no problems with connections, with device communication, or device recognition. My complaint or suggestion is to remove the DP ports and add more USB-A and USB-C ports. I had to add a USB hub for the rest of my connections.

Paul's HP Thunderbolt Dock 280W G4 w/Combo Cable Review
Every time I plug the Ethernet cable into it I lose internet connection, but as soon as I connect direct to the laptop, I'm back online. I didn't spend all this money to have to connect to the laptop. That's why I bought the docking station. So just the laptop to the docking station and done. Nothing else has been an issue. Just have been too busy to contact HP.

HP Thunderbolt Dock 280W G4 - shorts monitors
Thunderbolt was defective, and it caused my two HP 24es monitors to short-black out seconds at a time. It could be better when presenting and you can't see the screen. The good news is that HP sent a replacement unit for me to try. Post-service support was excellent. Will report back if this new unit fails.

Needs firmware update
When I first connected it to my laptop and connected my hubs to the dock, the laptop only saw one device from each hub. I checked HP's web site and found out that the dock had been delivered with out-of-date firmware. I downloaded and installed the latest dock firmware, after which everything was hunky-dory.
It's HP's job to make sure their devices are delivered with up-to-date firmware. HP failed to do that. The customer should not have to fix HP's failures.
Bottom line: device fine, HP failed.
