Space Saving on your desk, but doesn't charge pc
Best feature of the dock is that it doesn't take up a lot of space - which is great for a desk. BUT, it is disappointing that the dock doesn't charge the laptop, so you have to leave the computer plugged in. I purchase an extra charger to work around this, so it's not the end of the world. Note that this dock doesn't support the hookup of two monitors. It's not a problem for me, but I know some people require that setup.

Not Perfect But Close
I'm a real believer in docking stations for Laptops. My laptop does double duty as my desk machine, with a full size keyboard, a trackball, a large monitor, and a couple of external hard drives. I use this Ultra Dock with my new Thinkpad P52. My previous machine was a Lenovo W530, with it's own special dock. I like this new Ultra Dock better because I can raise the laptop up on some spacers to allow better air circulation and cooling. My only complaint is that unlike the W530 dock, there is no power switch the Ultra Dock to turn the P52 on and off.

Why would you create a docking station that doesn't charge the laptop? I've been a Thinkpad user for years; i can't believe they would produce something like this. I have cords everywhere on my desk. I cannot describe how annoying this is...

Disappointing product, gone backward in terms of usability
I have been through a number of generations of Lenovo docking stations, this is probably my 4th now, and I have to say this model is a giant step backwards. The device does not work to turn your laptop on or off, and does not provide any power to keep the laptop charged. Normally at work I like to just plug the laptop in the docking station but not have to keep the laptop (and docking station) on my rather limited desk top, leave the laptop closed, and use with external keyboard, monitors, and other devices such as HD camera. Frankly I thought that was what a docking station was for! But this model requires me to have separate power cord to the laptop and keep my laptop open in order to power on and off. So now have to run 3 monitors (one of which is the laptop which I don't use when docked) and keep the laptop closer to me using precious space on my desk. For the price I would expect much more and I am hugely disappointed with this product. I hope Lenovo learns from this mistake. I would have been just as well off ordering an inexpensive USB hub as I could already drive 2 monitors just using the connections on my compact Carbon X laptop.

Does NOT charge my laptop
I recently purchased an X1 Yoga. I am extremely happy with the laptop. As part of the purchase, I added this docking station. I am a physician--I take the X1 into the exam room with me to get the history. When I return to my desk, I wanted to be able to plug in one cord to access a second monitor, a mouse, and to charge the laptop. This dock does NOT charge the laptop. I have to also plug in the charger, which is a simple process, but repeated many times each day, becomes frustrating. The additional cord sitting on my desk is also annoying.

Expensive USB Hub
This is a very poor dock as far as using with multiple monitors. It has a displayport which is great but why they decided to have an hdmi instead of 2 displayports is beyond me. All the thinkvision monitors have either dvi, vga, or displayport, not hdmi. There is really no adapter to go from hdmi to displayport that works well, this is not compatible. This dock needs to be discontinued and it needs 2 displayports because you can go from displayport to every other.

Does its job well, but could be more convenient
The Ultra Dock is just what I needed to connect my monitor, keyboard, external DVD writer, etc. to my laptop. It functions great, and makes it easy to unplug my computer and go... what a laptop is supposed to do. I don't like that it has its own power supply. I used an older ThinkPad that clicked onto a flat dock, which supplied power to the computer along with the other functions. That was a much more convenient design, that also served to tilt the laptop up a bit for better ergonomics on a desk. But the Ultra Dock works. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Not specified docking station does not charge
I disagree with other buyers that it is silly some are complaining this docking station does not charge. New thinkpads are charged through a port that is at least physically the same as an USB C. I was unpleasantly surprised the thinkpad is connected through a USB B. Also, in general one expects that a docking station also charges the notebook.
If at least it was clearly stated the docking station does not charge, it would have been better. Indeed the docking station does what it is supposed to do, which is very little.

Very Disappointing
My previous laptop was a W520 with docking station and since the P52 doesn't offer a full docking station I purchased this to go with my new P52. This unit offers little to no capability beyond 2 monitors, mouse & keyboard. Plugging a USB drive into the unit will cause the keyboard and monitors to freeze. I've not even bothered trying the Ethernet connection.
So now instead of just latching my laptop into its cradle and pressing a button when I return from a business trip, I now have to set it on my desk, attach 3 different cables & open the lid to power it on.

Haven't pushed the video card (no gaming or photo editing), but I run 2 32" 1920x1080 monitors great. Works great for what it is intended to do
This dock is not intended, nor designed, to charge your laptop. Giving it 1 star because you want to use it in a way it was not designed is non-sensical. It's like buying an Apple TV or ROKU and complaining that it doesn't power your TV. It's not designed to do that!
There are other Lenovo docks that will do display, and USB connections, AND charge your laptop if you have the proper model to support the single plug. Otherwise, you need a power cord. For those working between home and office, you simply buy a 2nd a power adapter for home and stop crawling around the floor every evening.
This is intended to give you a single cable solution to dual display, keyboard, mouse, headphones or speaker system, and any other USB devices. It works great! If however, you have a wireless keyboard/mouse dongle plugged into your laptop USB slot, and only one monitor, and nothing else---then it makes no sense to buy this device.
This is also useful in shared office spaces where people have different laptops, models, even Apple laptops, can work with this. If it charged then it would have to have a host of different adapters and voltages for every single laptop model in existence---thanks is clearly not practical. This makes a shared desk with two monitors, keyboard, mouse, speaker, printer, etc. available to any laptop with a USB 3 port---and that laptop user would need to bring their own power cord.
Cheers.

A $200 dock that doesn't charge the laptop...
Seriously - I paid $200 for a dock that can't charge my laptop. I have a Yoga 900 pro and bought this dock to connect monitor, keyboard and mouse. In the middle of the day I need to unplug from the dock (and therefore the monitor, the mouse and the keyboard) so I can charge the laptop. The USB connection to the dock works only in the same USB port the power supply uses. I hope Lenovo can address this in a firmware update.

Works Great!
For the life of me I can't understand why ANYONE would think that a USB-connected dock would also charge their laptop. There's no way that a USB connection could carry enough juice to charge a workstation. Your cell phone, sure, but not a full blown computer. Why people rate this device so poorly based on this is beyond me. In any case, this dock works great with the E-Series laptops that don't have the ThinkPad docking port (which WOULD charge your laptop, FYI). Enables multiple monitors, lots of USB hookups, ethernet, etc. But if you're looking for true one-plug docking, get a T-series with the docking station.

Works ok if you dont want to bring the laptop home
It is a good dock if you want multiple monitors. Although, I am not impressed that it does not charge the laptop. The problem is that users take the laptop home, so they need a cord at home. Yes they can crawl around the ground and unplug the power cord and bring it home everyday, but not a fan-favorite with attorneys. You other docking station does charge the laptop, but it stinks with multiple monitors. It would be nice if you combined their capabilities and have a single dock that is good with multiple external monitors and charges the laptop.

So it really still defeats the purpose as you still have to have a separate power cord ran to the laptop. this means that every time you transport your laptop you are having to crawl under desk to retrieve the power cord to take with you. Excellent product, does the job. Have previously used the older versions of the Dock for many years, deployed throughout my office. Had issues with the older versions with due to driver compatibility, but so far, no issues here. Am using them with Lenovo X270 laptops with Windows 10.
Would be better if it was USB-C such that not just ports, put power could also be through the Ultra Dock similar to other docks out there that is via USB-C so users would only have a single point of connection when at their desks.

Great product with BAD documentation
I purchased two of these units to use with our new ThinkPads we got for Christmas. Fortunately, installation was a snap. Plug in the power, plug in the laptop and other devices, and everything just worked! So...what's the problem?
Documentation is almost non-existent, other than the large multi-language installation sheet. Many questions were left unanswered by the documentation and by the Lenovo website. For example, what kind of video ports does it have? One appears to be HDMI in the website photos, but what about the second one? It's a DisplayPort, by the way. When I asked on the site, one rep told me it was a DVI port, so apparently they don't know either.
Another question - will it work plugged into a USB 2 port? I don't know the answer to that one.
The documentation DOES give you a link to a Lenovo support site. www.lenovo.com/support/docks but that link is unavailable. The regular Lenovo support site knows nothing about the unit. The docs say you need the site to download the necessary drivers bu Windows 10 found them without it. I hope I never have a problem!

Works as promised, but with caveats
The dock is pretty compact and delivers on all of its promises. The trouble begins when you have a clean setup and want to use the dock with a monitor/laptop arm - The USB 3.0 "Connect to the system" male to male cable provided (which has a unique shape on the dock side) is really short. This really limits how far you can place the dock. I haven't been able to find a longer version of this cable since the past few days. I have a support ticket open and hope someone from Lenovo can help with this dilemma.
Other than this, I have no complaints.

The docking station allows me to have everything run through one unit (monitor, mouse, keyboard, ext HDD etc, except laptop power.
Is the purpose of a dock to provide you with everything in one. Big flaw Lenovo. You sell docking stations which do this, but are more designed for use within offices, so bulkier.
As my first Lenovo laptop and accessories purchase, not impressed to date with your products

Works well, even on non-Lenovo PCs
I bought this for my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro as a stationary desktop dock, so I can use the laptop normally while I'm in class, then come back to the dorm to plug in and do homework and the like hooked up to a full keyboard, monitor, etc. It works exceptionally for that, which shouldn't be too big of a surprise, seeing as they're both Lenovo products. I brought my desktop with me after the holidays and decided to hook up the dock to see if it would work (desktop is a custom build, but decided to give it a try since its just a USB device), and it definitely meets my expectations. It may be a bit pricey for a USB hub and display dock, but few, if any, USB hubs have similar features at a lower price.
As for the details:
The 6 USB ports are just enough to plug in a mouse, keyboard, printer, and a few other miscellaneous devices (external HDDs, etc.), and the display outputs are great, as long as you don't need VGA or DVI connectors (still not entirely an issue since there are adapters, and most modern monitors use HDMI or DisplayPort anyways). The gigabit ethernet is handy as well, if you find yourself in a location that has poor WiFi but ethernet access as well, however, don't expect to get gigabit speeds when transferring data to/from a NAS, for instance. This isn't an issue with the product as it is with the technology, as USB 3.0 is only capable of 480 megabits per second speeds. This should pose no issue for most internet use on standard home or moderate business connections; home plans tend to max out at 200-300 Mb/s, and you generally don't need more than that unless you're trying to stream 4k videos or upload large files such as Youtube videos. Just to be clear: This is not an issue with the product, just the technology, and it will not affect normal internet use.
For build quality, its not bad even for a full-plastic construction; its light, yet durable enough to take on business trips, and its power brick is small enough for travel. The finish is a nice matte black that doesn't pick up fingerprints easily, and the rubberized feet give it a decent amount of grip to the table.

Dock does not power LAPTOP
It is a dock, however this version will NOT supply power to your laptop. Not sure why you have a powered dock without providing power to the laptop but they do. Had to return this version and get the one that does.

Doesn't Charge Laptop
This should be put into large print and obvious description. What use is a Docking Station that doesn't charge your laptop!
