Never buy LG again
This is the second LG blueray burner I purchased and both have died shortly after the warranty expires. Expect it to die right after the warranty is up.
Pay for expensive 100 GB disks and half are bad. And those are the good Verbatim disks. I will NEVER buy any LG products again.
Cheap and junk.

Well built and fast
The burner replaced a different brand burner that was noisy, slow and couldn't get a firmware update for it.
I use two burners for convenience. My other burner is a LG brand so it was a side by side comparison to tell me which is the best.
LG is by far the best. Speed wise, construction wise and ease of getting firmware updates. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I sent them both back.
I bought 2 WH16NS40 burners for my desktop PC. Neither one of them would read blu-ray or dvd. One of them would catch once in a while, but it was very slow and spottyi. I sent them both back. I'll never buy another LG product, unless they improve their quality. The price was low, but that doesn't matter if they don't work right.

Good drive with wrong version
I bought this 3 days ago. I am using it with my laptop as external drive using SATA to USB 3.0 adapter. This drive is not reading UHD Blu-rays but others are fine. Googled on the issue an found that I need to downgrade the version from 1.03 to 1,02. Not sure how to proceed , if I could not I may need to return this. I WILL UPDATE this if I find solution/ on return.

Works as Advertised!
After purchasing the LG BH10LS30 in 2010, I was thoroughly disappointed with the product. For example, if it felt like it perhaps it would read Blu Rays never wrote them, but at least it worked for DVDs a greater percentage of the time. When it came time to purchase I looked at the competition for comparison products, some of them offered bundled software, unlike this product; however, the reviews scored better for this.
Since I already have software that will read Blu Rays, as well as DVDs and separate software that will write the aforementioned, and provided I've had an experience with an LG Television that died on me during repair and LG sent a technician to my house and replaced all of the parts within three days of the call (I think it was supposed to be a week), I purchased this product.
So far it works as advertised, although I have only tested watching Blu Rays on well known software (which pleases me since my first LG Blu Ray Burner was dead out of the box). I am attempting to clone a Blu Ray to my HDD for preservation, on my first attempt it was "corrupted" but that is more than likely software related, or copyright protection and not related to this product. Tested a clone of the second product, removed a theory that I had that was on the disc and I have a perfect copy on my HDD -- so it was software, and disc related.
Overall, I am pleased that it works as advertised, but, it should be noted that you should already have software to watch the media through this product as this is an OEM product and will be akin to a coffee coaster (unless you download some free products that do a poor job at playing media as intended). Also keep in mind that Windows 10 does not support media player watching. I've rater this product 4 out of 5 stars as LG's competition offers bundled software at competitive or cheaper rates, and it would have persuaded me to look elsewhere if I had not already owned the software necessary for my needs. Had to restore my computer to factory specs after Windows 10 upgrade. Unfortunatley the Blu-ray part of the disc drive had obsolete software and would only play regular DVD's and the Lightscribe software has been discontinued so I bought this baby. Works beautifully in linux!
I have been a linux user since 2000, and this blue-ray burner is one of the best pieces of hardware I've gotten in almost all that time.
The speed my system achieves when burning is amazing! I usually average ~45MB/second, so filling a 25GB BD takes less than 15 minutes.
LG hit the ball out of the park with this burner. I don't know what the trouble is with those saying anything other than great stuff about this burner (other than blame M$!), but for me this burner is fantastic and works out of the box on linux systems.

Great drive, DOES support UHD (DO NOT UPGRADE FW)!
This drive itself is outstanding and handles every Blu-ray I've thrown at it, including UHD! However, and this is the reason I take off a star, LG released a new firmware update (1.03) which DOES NOT "improve UHD compatibility" as it says, instead it prevents reading of UHD discs and prevents rolling back to earlier firmware. As long as you leave it at 1.02 (a perfectly good firmware), this will work for everything! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Worked the first day now can't be seen by Win 8.1
I bought this WH16NS40 Internal SATA 16x Super Multi Blue Blu-Ray burner due to the features that were described. I was excited when it arrived. I brought it in immediately and installed it and the included software. I was off to the races! Burned the included M-disc and one other 50GB DL Blu-ray disc (although it took 3.5 hours). SCORE! (Right?) Wrong! The day after burning those 2 discs, the drive stopped being seen/recognized by Windows 8.1. I have unplugged the drive completely, rebooted several times, tried every method described for this issue that I found on google, including adding a registry key, all to no avail. I was going to update the firmware but it's been stated several times NOT to if the drive is not recognized by Windows therefore, I haven't done so. I will be contacting customer support Monday to see if they have any other solutions. I am extremely disappointed in this drive at this point.

Read-only drive...
On a fresh uncluttered install of windows 7, this drive works great as a CD and DVD reader, and looks nice too. However, when it's time to write anything, is simply won't work. Insert a BD-R, DVD-R, or even just an old fashioned CD-R, and the drive will pretend nothing has happened. No solutions for this problem anywhere, just lots of reviews with people experiencing the same problem. In other words, this drive is a complete failure - so please avoid.

Very easy!
I bought this drive to be able to view and edit 4K sized video files stored on a Blu-Ray disk. Due to the size of the 4K video files, a regular DVD drive would not work. This drive when spinning with a blu-ray disk, the hum is a bit loud. I have not tried to burn an M-disc yet, but I wanted to be able to in the future. This drive had all of the features that I wanted for a blu-ray drive. Yes this model is an older generation now, but it fits my needs just right! A highly recommended drive. I liked the fact that I could find all of the support files (less sw apps) on the LG website still. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Nice drive - support ok - support website less
OEM purchased in bulk, so no direct support there. LG was more helpful, but had to get a supervisor to actually resolve. The website support points to links that actually do not download what they say they will provide.
But the supervisor at LG finally solved the issue - now I am happier.
I am a long time Systems Engineer, that is highly technical - so these "user" support issues can drive me crazy.

LG Needs to figure out what is going on.
I bought this through neweggbusiness 3 months ago. It is a very sweet little burner. Setup was simple. Windows 10 directly recognized it and burned disks. After writing 8 successful disks, #9 failed and all after that failed. Returned to neweggbusiness for a quick replacement... The new one burned ~ 8 more disks then failed. I have over 200 disks I need to burn; Am I supposed to buy 25 writers to burn my data?

It wrote one disk.
After the first disk, it only worked as a reader. Different software gives different errors, but I've seen it recognizing blank disks (newly bought) as having only 1.3GB free, and another showed 4.4GB free (yes, I made sure it was free space and not data on the disk) but still bombed out due to space concerns. I will add that I haven't tried using it after first use until just now, trying to burn a new install disk. But every disk? Even generics aren't that bad.

Works are expected, might need system twiking.
After the fifth BD burning, the drive failed to complete a burn. I first attributed the failure to the disk but after the second consecutive failure and not recognizing the drive with BD disk, I knew has to be the burner. A cycle of disabling/enabling the drive didn't resolve the issue. A bit of research turned swapping SATA ports could be the fix. In my case it was so. The unit has the latest firmware. Not certain if burner or stem is the issue.

Still works as intended
I've had this drive for probably 8-10 years now, and it has never let me down. I typically use it with BD-R (25GB) and DVD+R DL (8.5GB) media (because higher capacity discs are just too expensive for me to justify the cost). In today's age of disposable products, it's nice to see something that not only does what it was designed to do, but also lasts a long time.

LG WH16NS40 won't write DL Media - Design Flaw
I bought two of these. The User Manual and Spec sheet say that the drive will write to DVD+R Double Layer Media. So does the advertising. But the fact is because of a design flaw this drive will not write to DVD+R DB Media, only non-existent DVD-R DL Media. So if writing DL media is important, this drive is useless to you.

LG- Life's not so Good with this product
I bought this several months ago, and haven't been able to get it to work. Followed all the troubleshooting instructions on the LG website to no avail, used other troubleshooting instructions- nothing. Called LG and the rep said they'd send a return email so I could get another in 3-5 business days. That was 5 a week ago and nothing. Still waiting for the RMA label. So, I basically flushed the money down the toilet for a device that didn't work out of the box. Pity. I really need a Blu-ray player.
