The NETGEAR® 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Switch with a plug-and-play configuration has auto-sensing, 10/100/1000Mbps ports to allow for connection and integration of multiple systems. Rely on the non-blocking switching construction to provide maximum throughput at wire speeds. The ports allow for bandwidth delivery of up to 2000Mbps with full-duplex capability for quick, simultaneous reception and transmission of large files. It supports Linux™, Macintosh®, and PC operating systems to expand the pool of devices compatible with the modular switch.
A plug-and-play system eliminates the need for configurations and software installation, making the NETGEAR 5-port, gigabit switch GS105 easy to use. Outside the system are status indicators including port duplex mode, power, and collision status to help monitor the condition and functionality of the modular switch. Energy-efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az) reduces power consumption upon detection of inactivity or light traffic to lower the cost of operation. A self-cooling, fanless design minimizes noise to make the NETGEAR network five-port switch a viable option for noise-sensitive environments.

Exactly as expected
I had high expectations from my previous experiences with Netgear products, but this did nothing to tarnish that reputation. I plugged in the incoming feed from my fiber jack in my networking closet and can now connect my routers and other devices to my ethernet ports all around the house. The lights operate as described with left and right leds lighting when there is a connection and flashing for data transmission. I have gigabit internet and through my networking testing it appears to achieve the gigabit speeds that it claims. Overall, this is an excellent switch that I would definitely recommend to anyone in the market for this type of networking appliance.

Product unreliable
Has minimal ports, used it for about a month, and lost signal to two of the 4 ports available, unreliable after only a short period of time, cost money for down time to find replacement, not made to withstand minimal usage, this product was used maybe 3 times a week for about 3hrs a day.

Good little switch for the price
Netgear makes great little switches for home or office use. I have a few of these installed at my customer locations when I need extra ethernet ports at a persons desktop. I would recommend this.

Can cause problems on the LAN
These are cheap switches, and you get what you pay for.
Since there's no documentation, we had to find this out the hard way:
These Netgear switches have short MTU of about 1300. So while your PCs and servers default to MTU of 1500, these switches break each full packet into two, which are then re-assembled at the destination. That process creates about 2X the network traffic, 2X the switch processing, and 2X the NIC processing overhead. In my experience, too many of these switches on an active LAN can quickly flood your network and overwhelm the switches.
Instead, we upgraded to the Netgear GS108T managed switches, with variable MTU settings beginning at 1500. They give us far more control, and our network problems disappeared.
