Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for standalone backhaul My use case is a bit special. I'm using this device as the backhaul of my wireless bridge. The 5GHz speed of this device is pretty fast comparing to other products on the market. I use it as a wireless bridge to connect to my main router and connect my other ap to its ethernet port. It is now like I am connecting to the main router directly and the wireless connection speed is not affected at all. I constantly get over 200Mbps for a single connection. One thing I noticed though is if I enable the vap function, wireless connection speed is affected. But I am using a separate AP anyway, so this is not a problem for me. Even vap is enabled, the connection speed is around 150Mbps which is also not bad in my opinion and I can save one device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functioning as Advertised Excellent value as related to functionality and cost. Replaced two different Airties network extenders that stop functioning properly on the 2.4 GZ channel. They would drop signal every day to two smart plugs located outside of my home. My Netgear WAC124 (AC2000 , functioning as an access point, is working perfectly with zero issues dropping signal. Also it has faster throughput and signal strength as compared to the Airties extenders on an AT

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do the job without issue This WAC124 works well. I have it for more than a week now, and so far nobody complained about having a bad wifi connection...It's not my first NETGEAR product but I don't have a lot of experience ever... You have the information you need to personalize the parameters of this device. The menu is easy to use. The only weird thing is when I let it choose the wifi channel with the automatic mode... Well, it seems that it is not able to find the less occupied channel. So I used an app to find it and put the channel I want to use... Not a big deal for me, but it can be boring for people who are living in buildings with plenty of wifi networks from the neighborhood and wants to be sure that this is going to do the job no matter what...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wireless Access Point WAC 124 Am using this in a poolhouse that is about 100 feet away from my home, for access for TV, cell phones, music, etc. When I bought it, I called the tech support folks and spoke to a great gentleman that helped me configure it to be a wireless access point. He actually called me back the next day to see if it was working right (as I'm not that technical and help me make some adjustments. That is superior service! We have a great signal that carried quite a way with the same wifi signal as the house. Great fit for us!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great access point with strong WiFi signal This is for AC2000 WAC124 product that I used as a wireless access point: I can see why so many customers have been complaining about the set-up process. I tried to summon the device via the IP address that my ISP router assign to it but it would not respond. So I followed the enclosed instructions. People just follow the instructions! Netgear is basically forcing you to register the device on their website and that is good because you get the 3-years warranty activated. You can have up to three SSIDs (wifi networks but I only used one. The cool thing is that you can have the same network/SSID name and you can connect with either the 5 GHz or the 2.4 GHz frequencies depending how far away you are from the device. That enables fast speeds and a good range. If you go further away from the device you automatically migrate seamlessly from the 5 GHz frequency to the 2.4 GHz, so that ensures good coverage. I am not sure about the durability of the device as I have only been using it for a few days but I will update this review periodically. I definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking to take full advantage of their internet speed. Remember to follow the instructions!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow I bought what has Router in the name. Turns out, after 2 hours of following the instructions, I had to spend another 2 hours on the phone with tech support to put it in Router Mode. Very disappointed. It should not be marketed as a Router if you need to spend 4 hours just to turn it on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement AP This AP was bought as a replacement for an AP that I believed to be "misbehaving". I needed a wired AP that had wireless and CAT5/6 connections. The installation could have been easier. First, I don't like logging into Netgear in order to log into the AP. The AP is preconfigured as a router. This should be the first question, even a hard wire switch for default preference. It took longer than I planned, but not all day. Now that it is working/configured, it works fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great AP with lots of nice features This unit was easy to set up and is loaded with so many nice features. With 3 virtual Wifi's, you can set up a primary AP for users with full access to your network, and up to two additional APs that have limited or no access to your network. I set up a guess AP with its own paraphrase just for visitors. My primay AP also uses MAC filtering to give me ultimate security.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and as advertised Super easy to setup and does everything it was supposed to do. It doesn't give any sq ft on the product specs (just use cases) but I have it setup as a WP for my 1900sq ft home and have had no issues. My walls area also plaster which I can't imagine is great for WiFi signal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really surprisingly awesome I had not owned a NetGear product for many years, after an equipment failure and buggy operation in about 2005. And I was skeptical when this was recommended by a friend. (Been a Cisco/Linksys buyer for home and business in the interim) But this turned out to be a great purchase. Fast, affordable, easy set up. Would definitely buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall thoughts about WAC124 I think this device is a good 1st step. It provides cutting edge speed 1734 and 4x4 MIMO under $100 and reasonable range. I do not like that the 2.4 g channel is only 2x2. I don't like that it doesn't have mesh capability or that multiple devices can share the same network ID.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy setup, does the job I purchased this router to use as an access point to increase the range of my current wireless setup so that I could get better strength in my farthest room. The setup was easy and the strength has increased nicely. No issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not as advertised This product advertised as a Netgear router, but when it arrived, it is natively an access point and has to be connected to another router so that it can be programmed as a router. It is complicated process entailing having to be registered in order to log in to the device to deselect the check mark making it an access point and then it can become a router. The advertising should reflect that it is an access point that can be changed to a router. And once it is a router, then if (heaven forbid) it has to be reset to factory, then you would have to go through the process again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Wireless Access Point Super happy with the decision to chose the NETGEAR Wireless Access Point (WAC124. Installation instructions were simple. Everything worked correctly right out the box. I was easily able to change and set up my network names and passcodes. The set up also allowed me to instantly register the product. The performance and speed are great. Its connected to a 100ft Cat6 cable so I am impressed we get high speeds with no packet loss. Wireless and ethernet work equally well. Highly recommend if you need to extend your internet's coverage area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy with purchase We got two of these to upgrade our wifi coverage at our 10,000 sq ft office. We have tons of wireless cameras and tablets running at anytime so we needed something that could handle everything. The set up was relatively easy using these as a mesh network, plus the coverage of wifi now is AMAZING! We are considering buying another to cover our employee smoking area outside and food truck area now. Great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Access Point This access point is full of features and capabilities you wouldn't expect from a device within this price range. One of my favorite features is the ability to set different SSIDs for 2.4 GHz, 5GHz, and a guest network. This allows greater control of which devices connect where while while being able to control various IOT devices that may be on a different SSID from your phone. The three 3 dBi antennas provide ample coverage for a ~1300 sqft brick house and most of the yard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Access Point I tried range extenders but they did not work well - slow and not much range. The NETGEAR AC2000 Dual Band Wireless Access Point (WAC124) is very fast 43.5 MB on 44 MB service) and has great range. I would definitely buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good product at a reasonable price I purchase the WAC124 to use as a wireless access point. My ISP integrated modem/router had only 2.4 GHz wi-fi which is quite congested in my neighborhood. I wanted to add 5 GHz wi-fi capability and this unit does just that. The Netgear setup program did not automatically find the unit and I had to look on my computer for what IP address the router assigned to it when I plugged the unit in. Then I was able to access the configuration menu from a web browser and set it up. I like that it allows me to have 3 wireless access points. I set up one for guests and little used devices running on 2.4 GHz. I setup another for my entertainment devices on 5 GHz and the third for our smart phones using both wi-fi bands. After a week of use everything has worked flawlessly and with the less crowded 5 GHz band I am getting better performance out of our entertainment devices and smart phones. My device is set on top of a cabinet adjacent to the modem/router about four feet off the floor. My only complaint is that I cannot see the LEDs on the panel from this angle and have to pick up the device and angle it to see them clearly. Not a big problem as I have not had the need to look at them since day one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unhandy login procedure - Actually a router About login / administration of the product: unlike other Netgear products, with this one you first have to create a local account / password ( even with two 'security questions' to keep you busy, I suppose) but that so-called local account can only be used when the product is NOT connected to the internet. To login / administer once the router / access point is connected to the internet Netgear forces you to create a SECOND login, using an email address and password. This is: a. extra work b. extra password to remember c. hassle when setting the unit up for a customer, like I was Trick here is to pull out the upstream cable to the internet and fiddling a bit with restarting the device. But WHY ON EARTH does Netgear make this so difficult. Next surprise: though advertised as access-point it is actually a router that you can switch over to access-point mode. I did not measure what that does for the through-put from the connection from the WAN port used for upstream communication, but it is an extra layer of complication in the data path that I do not expect or want when shopping for an access point. My judgement: overcomplicated setup and somewhat misleading product advertisement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to setup plus easy roaming This router and AP device is ideal for small offices and provides better than expected signal strength. A great value for cost conscious buyers who need all the core functionality plus a few extras.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very slow This is the slowest router I've ever met. I am deeply disappointed in this product. Buggy, randomly restarting with the newest firmware. This netgear account thing is a deal breaker, it was the last product what i bought from u for sure. I really not getting why are u forcing people to create an account and sharing personal details for no reason. It would have been a great router by hardware wise but this firmware on it just a nightmare. At least will be good enough for openwrt.

I finally got tired of it and went back to my $50 wireless router that doesn't have the features but at least it is stable. To me this isn't worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great increase to our Wifi We have added wifi boosters on each hall in our facility. This has given all our residents the ability to be able to get wifi and also assisted us in moving to Electronic Medical Records.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a standalone router This router can not be setup initially nor subsequently without making the change on the Netgear website. No internet means no setup. Set password means provide it to Netgear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast WIFI I had a little difficulty with setting the unit up as a wireless access point for my Xfinity cable modem. However, once I figured that out, I have been very impressed by the WIFI speeds I am getting in the far reaches of my house now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but.... Having been using it for the last week I find it a good product. It is faster than my previous WAP. It is only being used as a WAP and not a router. The only thing that I have an issue with is having to login to netgear to access the WAP setting. I see this as bad security. This does not let me know where the settings are actually store. If they are only on the WAP fine. If they are also stored in the cloud then this would be considered a security violation. Also does Netgear personnel have access to the settings?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No tech skills, No problem! I have zero tech skills but needed wifi for my home business practice. I literally was able to plug this in, turn it on, and in less than 5 clicks have it working. The instructions were awesome and I couldn't be more thrilled. Thank you for creating something for us less tech savvy folks can use without a headache.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast Wireless Connection The Netgear WAC124 screams...super fast. One room over from where the access point is located, consistently getting 250 Mbps downstream. Wasn't real pleased with my existing two units...bought this one and I'm very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much less buffering!! We live in an area with horrible cell service and we stream our tv as well as WIFI and smart services and all we were getting is buffering. It hasn't completely stopped but it is much, much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Added an Access Point This access point is a great value for the money. I had some dead areas in our basement I was trying to cover for our phones. I struggled a little setting up this access point. Once I figured out the issue was with our phones not switching automatically to the better wifi signal, then it was a breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great WAP This is a great WAP device. I really like that it is dual-band and has multiple SSID's. Initial setup was somewhat difficult at first... you really have to read the directions carefully. You also need a Netgear account (no way around it as far as I could tell. Was able to get it to work in conjunction with a hardware firewall device and connected it to a DMZ (de-militarized zone) port on there so that Guest Wi-Fi would be separate from us. The Wi-Fi signal strength is good, but not anything to write home about. If you are expecting the distance to make it from, say, one side of a commercial office to the other side, you'll need to rethink your strategy... A "repeater" or two will help with this (worth it for stable Wi-Fi throughout a medium-sized building). Anyways, great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from successful install I was looking to add an access point closer to my greenhouse... I had used a Wi-fi extender for awhile it was hit and miss at odd times... learned about access points and I had strung some 10/100 cable to my back hall... the process of changing the access point from the default router setting to access point only was a bit of a pain, but I had other issues to fix also with my Windows update that failed and took out the PC's Wi-fi driver... a lot of reading tech details that day... both Windows and the access point are now working well... I now have 4 Wi-fi ports to my network... the 3 new ports have good range and I can run 3 tablets and my Echo Show in the greenhouse .... looking good to catch the Next Nick Zentner livestreams when he starts those again... can have the research paper and the livestream open at same time for the Geology classes he shares... So far the YouTube feeds have been good via the access points.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Difficult setup Excellent device, but setup is way too confusing! What happened to the days when all you had to do was connect to the new router with a network cable and type in its IP Address to log in and configure settings? I’m a retired IT guy and this new setup is a head-spinner, causing way too much swearing for a normal person.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Start with this one I got this for a client and the setup was easier than I thought. This is you entry-level Wireless Access Point but don't go by the 'Essentials' in its name. It give you so much more.
