I love the fact how I have options to switch to 2.4 GHz to 5.0 GHz through the app. The app is extremely user-friendly and extremely resourceful. Even though this is a later model, it’s still extremely powerful. I’m glad I gave back Spectrum‘s modem and router and decided to buy my own. The best decision I’ve ever made lol

The set up is super easy, but you need a good cell network to download and use the Netgear app. Its particularly good for smaller spaces. We have the lowest internet speeds of 50, even though this modem pulls it in at 60meg. Its suppose to be good up to 200, which is sufficient for most families. And best, its not very expensive

For some reason 4 of the lights won’t light up, my computer guy didn’t understand why it was working, shouldn’t be with those lights off, but it does, so that is good. Other then those two things, it’s a good cable router modem.

Setup was easy and service is great throughout the entire house across multiple devices. Only downside is every couple days, I have to reset the modem/router when internet is unresponsive but that could be more to do with the provider and our location. Immediately after reset, service is back to normal, speedy self.

I was a little concerned after the Amazon delivery guy “tossed” it over our privacy fence — but happily it is working great and gets the same speed as the xfinity rental modem it replaced. Easy to install with phone apps to assist. Very happy with purchase and it will pay for itself in rental savings in about 4-5 months.

Still have issue. I’m not sure why. I have good WI-FI, on phone, But.. it don’t reach far as I thought it would. :( . I am thinking of switching back to my Xfinity modem/router. I don’t know !!

Setup was a breeze, it took a few minutes to call my internet provider and give them the model number to activate the modem but after that it was up and running. The WiFi range is pretty good as well, I can access WiFi through the my entire house on the 5ghz band where I couldn’t before, but maybe that was an issue with my previous router. I couldn’t recommend it more, go and get one if nothing more than ease of use!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The worst modem I have owned I bought this about two months ago. The set-up was fairly easy, that's the only good thing I can say about this router. I have to restart it almost daily because it just stops working. The router I had before this one had to be restarted once every 5-6 months at most, unfortunately, it died after 7 years. So I bought the Nighthawk AC1200, this piece of junk is an absolute waste of money. The only place this modem belongs is in the trash!

I no longer have to have a separate router set up like I did in the past. This modem does run on the warmer side. So far, it’s been working fine. The price was also right, $149.99. I bought it at Best Buy. No need to rent modem from Comcast like they would like you to.

My son who is on the spectrum get upset because when he is using his ipad it will just disconnect from the wifi for no reason. To correct the issue I have to go into his settings and select the wifi again and then it will work and sometimes it wont even show up when looking for the network. Frustrating at the least. We have moved the router and it still has a problem staying connected and our house is only 950 square feet so there should be no reason this is happening. Very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Learned my lesson For the last 7 months I have been duped by my ISP for $15 a month rental charge on their cable modem after they convinced me that my own modem would cost close to $300 if I were to go out and purchase it so I never even checked one out, last week I was in Walmart and noticed they had the AC 1200 Wi-Fi cable modem router on sale for $75 this modem outperforms the one that I was renting by triple the speed and excellent customer service after my ISP tried to connect this modem for 2 hours they couldn't do it one call in less than 5 minutes the customer service at Netgear had this modem up and running along with a Netgear app on my Android phone that is really cool, this modem will pay for itself in 5 months and I will recommend it to anyone needing a Wi-Fi cable modem, I don't like to admit it but Netgear has taught me a lesson thank you.

Only once did we have an issue that it kept disconnecting but I don't believe it was the modem/router but probably a service interruption. It does get pretty warm but no more than our last device, which was not Netgear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solves my internet speed and connection drop I almost gave up and thoughts of switching my internet to another service provider as my internet was keeping up the speed and connection drops frequently happening, but a friend of mine to use this for final time before going the other way. Guess what that advice paid off and I was able to get my speed more than 300 mbps and no connection drop further. Single device (modem router and takes hardly any space. Very happy with decision and purchase.

I am very happy with the unit never had a problem with the first one until it just gave out on me one morning. There was not question of me not getting a new one, I did, and am most happy.

Setup took ~30 min on the phone with Xfinity, and I was pleasently surprised by how quickly I could speak with a person. Now I have fast internet throught my home (~1600sq ft) and save $15 per month for the Xfinity modem/router rental.

Faster speeds and less signal interference than my old router. It makes the internet happen. Already playing Mortal Kombat with my friend in Vietnam.

Main Network vs Guest Network 2.4 vs 5G and Mac filtering with Open DNS. It is missing DDWRT support but hopefully Netgear can integrate that in the future. Good product 5*****

Often times I am standing within 10 feet of the Wi-Fi and cannot get it to connect. For the price paid I am so disappointed that this is so difficult to use. The only reason I purchased it is because of the 2.4 gigahertz has my cable company went to 5G only and I cannot longer hook up most of my small home appliances.

This was easy to set up and works fine, I have had no problems with the signal dropping - use a direct ethernet connection with the modem directly near desktop. Husband uses WiFi with his laptop downstairs and did initially had trouble retaining signal but made the main band invisible with Windows 10 and works on the 2nd band.

Its was a battle of around 8 hrs between the provider Xfinity and the Netgear technical support in order to fix the issue. In fact, the signal was coming through my Netgear but couldn't broadcast to my devices. Chance that Netgear have a 24/7 support, I was able to fix the issue around 3 am . To fix the issue Netgear had to reset the device and run it as admin. I went through the whole process with the support. Now it's working perfectly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough Setup, poor support I was able to easily connect the cable modem to my desktop PC via LAN cable. Xfinity was able to activate it and my PC worked fine. The wifi did not connect to the internet, however. It took two long calls to support to get it working. The 1st guy was not on the right track. The 2nd guy knew what he was doing. Too much effort for such a simple tasl. The NightHawk app did not work either ran in a loop. The support had to activate it manually.

Even for a non-technical person, the setup was simple and straightforward. The connection was quick and dependable once I got it going. Without any latency or buffering, I've been able to stream videos, play online games, and surf the internet. Also particularly impressive is the range. Despite the fact that my flat is very tiny, I have no trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi from any room. I also value the security features since they make me feel at ease while I browse the web.

Because I needed a router for work in the next day, I had to buy a much more expensive one that was physically in store near me because I didn’t have time to wait for a replacement. I didn’t buy another NETGEAR.

However, during setup I had difficulty connecting to the WiFi network (default SSID for the router.) The reason is you need to physically press a button near the top of the device to turn on WiFi. WiFi is not enabled by default... why, I cannot explain since this is a WiFi cable modem. Once you press the button to enable WiFi, the rest of the setup is easy.

I then tried to set it up a few times though the xfinity app. Just couldnt do it. Mind you it takes 11 minutes to try and connect to the modem. I tried like 6 times. I called netgear and went through some steps with them and still nothing. I was told to call xfinity. I called the next day and after another hour of sending signals, it didnt work. Was told to call netgear again. I then called and was telling the lady what lights were in on the modem and one was the dowmstream light, blinking in rythm. She said aaaa, it is not connected correctly to the coaxe or the port is bad. I new the coaxw was goos because i was upgrading the modem. So i had to return it again to walmart. Long story short, dont by electronics in the clearance section at Walmart!

I was suggested to purchase my own, in which I did and it was the best decision in doing so. When I asked a close friend if buying a NETGEAR was a good choice, she has one for over 2 years and has been very happy with her purchase with no issues. I have informed other friends and family members that if they have a monthly charge for a WiFi cable modem router they should do as I did, buy a NETGEAR AC1200.

Something else bothering me is the fact the admin app shows unknown devices with MAC addresses that can't be identified. Not even the device manufaturer from the wireless mac shows up on searches

Something else bothering me is the fact the admin app shows unknown devices with MAC addresses that can't be identified. Not even the device manufaturer from the wireless mac shows up on searches

Additional customer support is awesome.

The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 is because occasionally it won’t let my phone connect over wifi, even though the internet is still working on all other devices. A quick reset fixes the problem, but it is still annoying when it happens. Otherwise it has provided steady internet with no problems.

Setting it up with my service provider was straightforward after going through the steps the app tells you. It takes a bit to boot up but now it’s running great and I have had no issues with it at all. The range is great as well but I don’t live in a house so I don’t know about larger ranges. Overall it’s a good product for its price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Modem That Worked Right From The Start One of the biggest problems with a lot of cable modems is that you never know what you're going to get until you unbox it and plug it in: will it work with your current devices? Will your ISP recognize it? Will it hold a connection? Does the Wi-Fi work? Can you bridge connections? Can you chain routers? Etc., etc., etc. I've been through quite a few modems over the last ten years, at least six. And I have to say, the Netgear AC1200 has been the easiest to setup and the most comprehensive when it comes to managing it and connecting devices. Yes, it has been one of the more expensive cable modems I've bought, but the features make it worth it. One of the best parts about it is that once you hook it up and power it on, you can access the modem remotely from any device connected to the AC1200 either via Wi-Fi or through a router connection. This is a huge boon, because I've had some modems where you can't access them if you're connected through a separate router connected to the cable modem. Here, it's always accessible and always secure. The setup process is extremely intuitive, as it guides you through the process on setting up the modem for the first time based on your internet provider, but once that's done, there are a lot of great GUI features to make navigating the controls, settings, administration features, and connection rates with ease. One of the biggest problems I've had with past modems is not being able to limit bandwidth or set rate limits, but with the AC1200 you can schedule access based on time of day (which is great if you have kids that you don't want online past or before a certain time), bandwidth limitations to prevent bandwidth caps from being exceeded, as well as access control, guest control, and even 5G connectivity. I'm still learning some of the ins and outs of how the modem works, and some of the more advanced settings, but it's been amazing so far and I love its sleek design, quick boot-up times, and expansive user control settings. Also, being able to hook up multiple routers and bridge connections with nary a hiccup is really why this gets a 5 out of 5 stars.

I live in a small room, and this unit can rais the room temperature by up to 10 degrees farenheit. Its only a problem for me as i have no ac. Second issue, tbere is only 2 rj45 ports (ethernet ports) and i hardwire multiple devices, so i can either only plug in 2 devices, or buy a seperate network switch to add 16 ports

I had issues with the coaxial cable and again with the modem itself that required multiple resets to get it to work at all. I think if you're not gaming this is a good modem, but as someone who works with large datasets, it is sometimes annoying to me, and I wish it was more consistent.

It took our data rate from 70-85 Mbps to 370 Mbps. using the Spectrum Speed Test site after the install. I could not have been more pleased!! Today's speed, a week later, is 241 Mbps. Could'nt be happer with the results. No more buffering of videos....And this from a half-priced factory refurbished Modem. 19DEC23

I do NOT need or want the account, and without the account I could not access the administrator advanced settings in the modem for changing the Wi-Fi SSID and password.

All I had to do is connect the power and the wi-fi cable for it to work. The range of the device is very wide, even when I start driving away, I would still have internet for some time. The speed is the maximum of what my provider gives.

I downloaded the app and the set-up instructions were clear and the app easy to navigate. I like the compact size of the router compared to the one I was renting. I am actually getting about 1 MB/s faster download than my internet plan is supposed to provide, so I'll take it. Time will tell if the product continues to perform at this pace but, as of now, it works perfectly.

The Netgear AC1200 wifi modem router took time to set up -- not the 5 minutes as stated in the instructions. The Netgear App did NOT work, for this reason I am giving a rating of 3 stars. I am technically savvy but after over an hour of trying to connect I had to call Netgear tech support who were helpful and got everything working. The modem router itself is a nice small size but note it does not have an HDMI plug.

Got this Netgear AC1200 Wi-Fi Cable Moderm Router C6230 for my parents, their Wi-Fi speed improved and they are very happy about this purchase. The only challenge is it takes us a while to get it installed correctly, but the employees are very helpful, they guided us through phone step by step to make it work. Highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Choice ???? I spent hours looking for a modem/router combination that would cover the square footage of my new apartment, be Xfinity compatible, and feature rich. The choices weren't great and I normally just rent the modem but I needed to terminate service and start over recently so I decided to stop paying $14 month renting. This modem/router has a small footprint but should run up to 20 devices. Save yourself some grief and follow the NetGear activation instructions rather than reaching out to the ISP. My installation failed at first because I wasn't registered with NetGear even though everything looked good on Xfinity's side. So far things are working well. I have all my devices including WFH working without hard-wiring with an Ethernet cable. In the past, everything I purchased from NetGear was an expensive disappointment. If you had that same experience, take a chance on this device like I did. For $90, this device's performance is worth it.

Second, or third, it would not set it up with the way they were instructing. They told me they could do a remote and they told me it would cost me. So much for the free support. The router is ok after set-up but getting it done it another thing. Have a nice day.

Even though I followed the instructions, I did have difficulty getting the modem to go online. I’m not sure if the error was completely user related or due in part to my house set up or the ISP. Fortunately I was able to speak with someone at netgear to assist without much hassle which adds to why this review gets 5 stars. Fast internet with multiple devices including tv streaming and phone/computer Wi-Fi. You should buy this.
