Descent Kit Lens
Descent Kit lens, reliable, fast auto focus.
Very bad barrel distortion at 24mm, Close focus distance is not so great, Hard to get descent bokeh.
Buy only as a Kit lens, starter lens, and if you need a wide angle lens for landscape, buy a more dedicated one.

Do not waste your money!
I bought this as a kit-lens combo with my Sony Alpha 7c. The lens as pictured in all the Sony pages is in a CLOSED mode. To use it you need to turn the ring to open the lens. Once open, the lens extends and does a funky Out-In-Out motion as you move across the zoom range. The aperture varies from F4-F5.6, and is terrible in lower light.

A good small sized lens
Bought as a bundle with A7C body, it is ideal when I want to walk around with a small camera (no big lenses). Excellent quality.

Small
Glad I bought it with the camera camera body, was in two mind first. but as a travel lens to a full frame mirrorless body its extraordinary results are surprising

Poor picture quality.
Compact lens, useable zoom range but the picture quality is below average. Also, the lens/sun hood should be included.

Comparing Specs to Vario-Tessar
Just comparing the specifications shown on this website planning my purchase:
The 28-60 is designed for (1) light weight and (2) compact size, for the A7C camera, so it dies NOT have (3) in-lens Optical SteadyShot nor (4) constant aperture while zooming. Most cameras now have 5-axis SteadyShot in the camera body, so the photographer's knowledge and experience can manage the types of motion not covered by in-camera 5-Axis stabilization, and the depth of field changes by aperture.
If you want those features # 3 & #4, plus a bit more zoom, the Vario-Tessar 24-70 is not that much more expensive. I would like to see a scientific comparison of big enlargements from the 2 lenses using the same camera.
28-60 weighs 167 grams
24-70 weighs 426 grams
A 7 C weighs 509 grams
Alpha 1 Weighs 737 grams
other A series cameras are mostly 657 grams
My choice for a 12 hour hike along the Appalachian trail would be an A7C and the 28-60.
For less athletic assignments an Alpha 1 or A7R IV with the 24-70 Vario-Tessar.

Amazing
Its tiny, light, feels flimsy and cheap - BUT it takes great images (even on an a7r4) and is no problem to carry any time. As a bonus - it works really well throughout the zoom range in infrared - sharp and no hotspots.

Good value, light and small
This is a compromise lens, but for its weight and focal range and fairly small aperture. It is surprisingly good.

Surprisingly Good
I bought this as a kit with my A7C. As the title says, it is surprisingly good. While it has its obvious limitations, it is a lens that I would use for daytime street shooting. Haven't had a chance to test nighttime use yet.
It's pretty sharp throughout the range and has good color rendition.

Sharpest kit lens I’ve ever owned
Having shot on Canon cameras my entire life I’ve made the move to Sony and now I must begin to start collecting glass again I bought the Sony a7c with this kit lens to get me started and I’m so impressed with the sharpness it’s obviously not great in low light but for well lit situations produces great results

Gutes Objektiv

Perfect with A7c for mountaineering
Very light and compact lens but good quality. Ideal for walking and mountaineering when size and weight are important.
The biggest disadvantage for me is that the zoom ring rotates the wrong way, the opposite way to the on/off lever, so I almost always turn it to the 60mm end to turn it off and then have to turn it back.

Compared with Sony Prime lenses........
I did a fairly careful comparison with my FE28mm & FE55mm using both an A7R2 and an A6000. As you would expect the two Sony prime lenses were easily better when used with the A7R2 and I wouldn't bother to use the FE28-60 with that camera.
The prime lenses are noticeably better with the A6000 as well but the difference is less obvious and the A6000 + FE28-60 makes a decent quality small combination to carry around when ultimate quality is not the uppermost consideration.
For 'holiday snaps' the FE28-60 is perfectly adequate, especially between f4 & f8 and it is noticeably better than the A6000 16-50mm kit lens.
I would like to make it perfectly clear that it was only by doing a careful comparison that the difference became clear. Taken in isolation, there is nothing obviously wrong with the images from the FE28-60 and it is probably just the difference to be expected between prime lenses and zoom lenses. My only other zoom lens is the 16-50 and it is easily better than that.

Great lens and so light.
I bought this lens for use with my Sony A7c and love it. It’s sharp, compact and light. Wish it was a 24mm wide end but you can’t have everything. For the money paid I’m really happy and attached to the A7c it’s really light and portable. A+++

Poor quality zoom
I love the size of this lens, it’s great for keeping in your pocket ready to use, great sharp images. However the zoom is very poor, not smooth. Also needs a lens hood. Absolutely great little lens that fills a gap but has room for improvement, some little improvements could make this a great little lens.
