Add two USB 3.0 ports to your desktop computer through a PCI Express slot. The PEXUSB3S23 2-Port PCI Express USB 3.0 Card lets you add two USB 3.0 ports to any PCI Express-enabled computer system. The USB card requires SATA power for functionality, and delivers 900mA of power per port to USB 3.0 bus-powered devices (500mA for USB 2.0) via your computers SATA power connector.
The PCIe USB 3.0 adapter is compliant with USB 3.0 standards for data transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps, while still offering backward compatibility with existing USB 2.0 / 1.1 devices. For added versatility, the controller card is equipped with a standard profile bracket and includes a low-profile/half-height bracket for installation in small form-factor computers.

Power connection not optional
Documentation states power connection is optional. My experience with two of these in three separate computers indicates that the power connection is required, even in one with a 750w supply. I could not get any USB devices to work unless the power connection was in place. After doing that everything worked fine.

Not bootable
I wanted to boot from this card. I have to give it 5 stars because it does everything that StarTech claims. I always want to do something different.

null
It does require the "optional" SATA power connector. Tried the card in two different systems. Drivers installed and all showed well. But, nothing would respond when plugged in. Not a flash drive, keyboard, or disk drive. After plugging in the SATA power connection and rebooting, everything worked as expected. Nice and fast.

Fast, but needs lots a big power supply
Have a PC service shop and installed a half dozen of these. Â On the machines that had a 400W power supply, USB sticks worked, but USB2.0 and 3.0 docking stations did not. Â Once upgraded to a 500W power supply, a single USB dock would work on one port but could not run two docks. Â Once finally upgrading the PSU on each machine to 600W, both USB ports worked at the same time with USB2.0 and 3.0 docking stations. Â These are definitely power hungry.
