This USB 3.0 external video capture device lets you record 1080p HD video and stereo audio to your computer system. With multiple video inputs including HDMI, DVI, VGA and component, the capture card can record original content from various sources such as computers, camcorders, security systems, POS terminals, and servers. With a framerate of 60 FPS (frames per second) and H.264 encoding, this is the perfect solution for capturing high-definition video for editing, compiling, and archiving. Seamless picture quality at 60 FPS| Record lossless video at 60 FPS ensuring every frame of content is saved, unlike 30-frame-per-second capture devices that only catch half the action. 60 FPS exactly matches the output of most computer video cards, which is great for recording the output from your PC, server, or POS station when creating software training and tutorial videos. H.264 encoding for wide device compatibility| The included software encodes in H.264, the most widely adopted video codec in the world, ensuring your video captures will be compatible with almost any device platform such as PC, Mac®, iOS® and Android™ with no editing or converting required. H.264 is also widely supported by most software titles including Adobe Premiere® and Windows Media® Encoder. Plus, the software not only lets you capture and export videos, but it also lets you take screenshots, schedule recordings and instantly stream your video source over the Internet using online services such as Twitch. This USB capture card is capable of capturing lossless raw video making it compatible with Microsoft® DirectShow. With raw video capture you can record video using your preferred third party DirectShow software such as Open Broadcaster Software (OBS). Flexible Input Solutions for Convenient Compatibility| With multiple A/V input options you can capture from a wide variety of sources including HDMI, DVI, VGA, and component. You can also use this capture card with A/V adapters to record other video sources such as SDI using our SDI to HDMI converter (SDI2HD). Support for a variety of A/V devices is ideal for archiving analog video footage into a digital database. The device also includes easy-to-use software that's compatible with NTSC and PAL systems, making it a must for professional video archiving applications where source media can change from project to project. I Am So Glad I Bought This!
I bought this from Amazon and it has been amazing! I had a minor issue when I first installed it but tech support helped me through it. What was amazing was I called them on a holiday and not only did they help me through it, the gentleman who helped me was really cool and professional...even though I was bugging him on a holiday! I haven't had a problem with it since! My only complaint is that it's not Mac compatible, but I knew that going in so I don't hold it against them...just maybe a suggestion for the near future considering the most common forms of video editing are done on Mac.

Great Product with Great Support
I was looking for something that might be able to record a specific HDMI output signal and so with the help of the excellent support staff at StarTech, and a little sleuthing of my own, I was able to accomplish that goal. All 3 things came together, the hardware, the support and some of my own initiative.
The support staff spend over 45 minutes with me one day. If they can't figure out how to accomplish something with their hardware it probably can't be done.

Very good product
This is a very good product. I have been using it for about 18 months. I did have to educate myself about how to use DirectShow with VLC. But the hardware is very good quality. Now I just need Startech to make one capable of 4K video capture. I will buy it when they do.

Great for Vid Conf.
This works great with Camcorders and digital cameras.
Just make sure you install ALL drivers 1st before trying to hook it up.
Could be a little tricky to setup if you aren't familiar with the IT side of things. Other than the drivers, it's mostly plug and play.

It is awesome
It is the best capture card for what it does, unfortunately there is still no linux driver support, it is also not supported in a virtual-machine environment, so you are forced to keep a windows physical installation around. with linux support it would be perfect.

No audio passthrough for zoom or other VC apps
We bought a large number of these devices expecting to be able to interface a camcorder and it's audio, and use with zoom or teams. However, the device offers no audio pass through without the accompanying application. That is, this device will not show up as an audio device making it useless for our use case. Additionally, the drivers that are needed to use this device are not signed. Which makes installing it on our systems very challenging. This device is practically useless for streaming. Even the software they offer with it requires elevation of privileges to use because it's not signed.

Great for S-VHS & VHS capturing
I was need to capture video from old VHS cassetes 20-25 years old and happy that found this device. It is privide maximum possible quality with S-Video in interface for S-VHS and VHS. StreamCatcher SW is quite simple and stable. Sometimes it is detect CopyRight protection via S-Video cable (is it possible?) and stop recording, but it was one time only. This solution works great! One point for SW update: it is not possible to move StreamCapture SW window from one monitor to another when using multiple monitors with PC. Why? :)

No replacement analog wire available
I needed to order a replacement analog video adapter wire but after contacting them their support agents told me it's unavailable. For such an expensive product you would think they would have that available? I don't really want to spend $300 more on a whole new capture device. The Capture device suits me needs however it's just shame I can't use it for me needs now that I don't have an option to replace my missing adapter wire.

Stable connection and not dropping frames
The conversion that this part does is of a better quality than other usb capture items do. The software that comes with it does not work yet with Windows10(yet) Startech has a great customer service department!

Awful with the new Stream Catcher Pro software.
The USB3HDCAP used to work perfectly with the old version of Stream Catcher, the one that had flash embedded within it. StarTech dropped the ball by not having a thoroughly tested new version ready for the end of 2020 when Adobe finally killed off "Flash". Here we are, 6 months later and a new "working" version has been released... But this new "working" version does not work. Now, the USB3HDCAP drops frames all the time, which leads to blocky unwatchable videos. Audio has a time lag on it, plus audio now sounds like it's being flushed down a drain. Did you ever see the Star Trek TNG episode in season 3 with the "Barzan Wormhole"? (Yes I am going somewhere with this). In that episode, Data & Geordi are in a shuttlecraft and they enter the wormhole. As the shuttle gets further from the Enterprise in that episode, the audio starts to lag and slows down - recordings on the USB3HDCAP sound *EXACTLY* like that. Perhaps Stream Catcher Pro is linking audio from the other side of a wormhole? Also, the software now has made my laptop so slow. So slow in fact, that I am going to have to restore it to a previous backup version (Just as well I take full backups of my laptop, or I'd be lost now!). You need to put this software back through the development stage and perhaps release one that uses HTML 5 rather than Microsoft Visual C++. Just as well I have managed to block the removal of Adobe Flash from my laptops, once I have restored the laptop I will have to resume using the old Stream Catcher software and just change the date back to the 31st of December while the program launches. I am really disappointed with StarTech and this software, this is the first bad experience I have had with their products, products that are usually excellent and do what they are supposed to do.

high quality recordings
I bought this device several years ago and encountered bad software issues in the past.
But the latest software release is excellent, and a breeze to install (I uninstalled
all old stuff first. As always, high quality recordings, but what's still missing is 'Pause recording", OBS can pause. Apart from that, best software ever.

Excellent Capture Device!!!
I've had this unit for a few months now and I am very happy with the unit overall. The device captures various screen sizes and is perfect for capturing VGA and DVI sources from older computers that do not support the installation of a modern screen recording software. Perfect for creating video tutorials using older computer hardware. There was one issue many users have encountered when using the StreamCatcher software, and that being unable to move the GUI window from one monitor to another when using multiple monitors on a PC. This is actually possible to do, however it requires you to double click on the capture window to cycle through (x3) different GUI window sizes; Full Screen, Normal and Small. You can only move the StreamCatcher GUI window across to other Monitors when the GUI is in the SMALL window size. So you simply have to double click on the GUI capture window when you see your video feed, double click a couple of times...and you can toggle to the proper screen size and then move it across to your other shared PC monitors. :) Hope this information helps future users out there. A Great product! :)D Cheers! -Gerry

Great device to capture BIOS, and pre boot screens
I have purchased three of these over the last couple years, and I use them all. I connect these to be able to even capture BIOS screens for instruction manuals. I have them connected to computers through DVI and I also use one connected Display Port. I also have other brands, I have purchased to use for what I need it for. But the best thing about the USB3HDCAP in the past has been it's bundled Stream Catcher software. I was sorely disappointed when the Stream Catcher software stopped working because of Adobe discontinuing support for their product. I cannot point to hard a finger at Startech for that. However it was known for some time the software was being moth balled. Would have been nice to have a replacement software that works as easy and well, before that happened. As recommended I tried OBS, I do not find it friendly or easy to use like the purpose built Streamcatcher. I found my own solution for at least two of the devices, I have a laptop I disabled all the network connectivity on and turned back the date 1 year. This laptop pretty much does nothing but capture screen shots and screen video. So I can live with not allowing it to connect to a network to get updates. I am looking forward to a good purpose built software again. I have also recommended this device to others. Looking forward to this product being GREAT again.

It would be perfect if...
Very happy with this device, I purchased to convert analog (tape) media to digital files. Does a great job. I don't have a use for the streaming function. There is one thing I wish it did which would be an option to take an hdmi output from a high end camcorder and present it to windows like a webcam which could then be used for software like GoToMeetings, WebEx, MS Teams, and Skype. I know that is like asking an F22 fighter jet to do crop dusting but it still would be nice...

Great capture but limited support
I bought this device to capture a bunch of old VHS tapes. The output is great, but there is no MacOS suspport whatsoever. It only works on Windows in this app. Don't even try to use a better capture program there.

New Streamcatcher Software Will NOT Install
I have this device but it will no longer work with the old Streamcatcher software. So I downloaded the newest Streamcatcher software, but it will NOT install on my computer no matter how many times I try. Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit, Lenovo laptop. When I double-click the installer, nothing happens. Nothing happens whatsoever. A very brief "busy" circle of the mouse pointer, then nothing. Hopeless nonsense.
