don't try to register or you will end up in Kansas
probably works perfectly well as battery backup but couldn't navigate the registration site and therefore never got the software to make it shut down the computer automatically
these tech people make things FAR more complicated than they have to be

Works well with Leviton Structured Media Cabinet
Purchased to power items in a newly-installed structured media cabinet. Unit fits well on the Leviton SMC shelf, though I secured with zip-ties rather than the velcro straps. Until fits perfectly and will keep our Sonic fiber ONT and router up and running should there be a power interruption.

I bought this product again!!!!!
I have a Control 4 system with a whole house hot spot and ethernet jacks in each room. It was installed 4 years ago and the 500VA backs up this part of the setup. It's worked great, I worked with my system provider to see if there was anything new in the market and the 500 VA still is the best product for the job. I highly recommend this product for your power backup needs.

Compact and easy to install
It's heavy but compact and it fits perfectly in our home network panel. It arrived quickly. Very easy install. This is our second Tripp Lite, the first one lasting 10 years.

Extremely useful form factor.
This power supply is better in many ways than Tripplite's other UPS products due to its form factor, which is compact, and easier to locate amongst other equipment. It is designed for structured media cabinets. If your cabinet is not already full of equipment and wiring it is a useful addition, as the UPS can be right in the enclosure. This is extremely useful as you can now find a place for all those wall warts that don't use the 12 volts put out by this UPS. Otherwise, you have to route your 120 volt wiring outside the enclosure to another UPS. There are some disadvantages including that the battery is not user replaceable. You have to send it back to have the battery replaced, or buy another one. This used to be the case for some of Tripplite's earlier UPS products and I hated that, and still do. Another problem is that one outlet has a 60 second delay before it switches on after a power outage, supposedly for use by a router. I have never needed such a facility and the 60 s delay is just a nuisance and uses up a potentially useful socket. The 12volt cable is very short, about 1 foot, because the device is designed to be right in the corner of a structured media cabinet right next to a power outlet. However, this device has all sorts of uses, and such a short cable then becomes a problem. I ended up buying some other cables to suit my application.
Now, why do I think this device is useful? Well, its small, and neatly built. I actually ended up hanging it on the door of my structured media cabinet and powering a bunch of those Ethernet hubs that home automation companies are so keen on selling us these days. I have mounted those on the door too, and managed to neatly wire everything in with all the existing equipment and wiring inside the cabinet. I can even close the door, as I have the cabinet extension that Leviton sells which allows lots of extra room. I have bought a second one to mount underneath a small 14" structured media cabinet.

Expensive, but does the job
Installed in a Leviton structured wiring enclosure using industrial strength velcro. Worked well during a recent power failure.

Perfect for modem and router in enclosure
Fits perfectly in enclosure with modem, router and PoE switch. Love the feature that delays the power on of the router by a minute. The modem of the internet provider is always getting stuck during reboot when router was already on.

Great with one serious limitation
Wonderful product as long as it works. Only problem is the battery is NOT replaceable, and the life of the unit is maybe three years if you're lucky. I've had four of them!

Quiet and Tucks In Nicely into AV Box
Just installed the AV550SC and I can say so far, I am very happy. The unit is extremely quiet which is rare for battery back-up units. When testing the power loss, no beeps!!!! Thank you Tripp-Lite for finally putting us in a happy place. Nothing is worse than losing paper overnight and you hear nothing but the battery back-ups beep.

Unique product works perfectly
The Tripp Lite AV550SC fills a niche that most UPSs can't. This product supplies uninterrupted power flow to devices normally found together in home networks, as well as properly managing power-up. Its delayed power-on for the router minimizes logon confusion, and the 12VDC supply to keep such devices going makes a hard-to-find combination. It's also smart enough to communicate with your computer to arrange for smooth shut-downs in long outages. The ability to be wall-mounted helps manage equipment clutter. An excellent choice!

Worked well for just 1 year
Worked very well for about 1 year, then it stopped working as a backup battery. Power flows through just fine when plugged in, but as soon as the power is out all output is gone.

A must have for structured wiring enclosures
By far the most important component of any residential structured wiring enclosure should be the AV550SC. Compact and designed for perfect fit in most structured wiring enclosures. This beauty allows all components like modems, routers, switches and distribution hubs to get surge protected, filtered, an uninterruptible power. If the power goes out its good to know these systems will still be able to function. Works best in enclosures where the power outlet of the enclosure is to the far right side. Avoid enclosures with the power outlets in the middle at the bottom.

Works well in On-Q
Good packaging, sufficient power connection for small network (modem, router, switch) and surge suppression for cable. Battery is documented as NON user replaceable. The product is very expensive for what it does but there are few other options.

Smells like early failure.
When i first plugged it in, it smelled strongly of burning electrolytic. The smell lingered for more than a day but the unit does seem to function. I have a bad feeling about the lifespan of this unit but I will see how long it lasts.
I don't know how anyone can honestly review one of these until they've had it for a while and experienced power outage. It did keep everything running when I turned off the breaker for a few minutes.
It fits neatly in the bottom corner of my OnQ SMC. The 12V terminals are a nice touch, but they should have included a couple of wires.
