Rack layouts vary greatly and often times it is necessary to mount switches in the back of the cabinet to attain more convenient cabling connections and reduce clutter. While this technique provides several benefits, the air intake is often exposed to elevated air temps as it's air supply has been pre-heated by the servers in the rack that discharge to the rear.
