Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect docking station for home office. This is a fantastic docking station. I have two HDMI cables coming in from my external monitors along with the connection from my laptop. Super easy to set up! Very small footprint makes it easy to fit on my desk with the other three devices and still have room to work/write.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Having some issues When it's working it's perfect but on a couple of occasions, I have lost the video output. Both of the HDMI displays I have connected went blank for 5 seconds. Very distracting when you are presenting in a meeting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features, easy to use, but slightly unclear driver installation The docking station works well, is easy to set up physically, and easily connects to supported devices, but the in-box documentation provides two links to drivers. It's not clear if you need to install both or just one of them (and if so, which one).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The ONLY thing this product does... ...is provide a 1gb network connection, however file transfers are still pretty slow. The D3100 won't charge the laptop. And the D3100 won't derive it's power from the laptop. This requires me to have a 2nd power supply attached to my laptop in addition to the 65W that is attached to the D3100. The quality of sound through my externally powered high end speakers is lousy, they sound much better plugged directly into the laptop. The monitor replication is interesting - I'm using HDMI to DVI, however when the laptop enters sleep mode, it requires a reboot of the laptop and unplugging the D3100 to get the monitor to display properly after waking up. I don't have this issue with the monitor attached directly to the laptop using the HDMI to DVI. And the user guide documentation is really poor. So as a port replicator with 3 x USB 3.0, 2 x USB 2.0, and 2 High-powered ports for battery charging, its a very expensive alternative to the other port replicators in the marketplace. I am going to return this product tomorrow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do not buy! Dell should refund everyone's money for this product. It's not a dock. It's a USB hub at best. -It does not power your laptop -It does not get powered by your laptop -The ethernet does not seem to run at full gigabit speed I don't have this with me right now, so I can't read the service tag to be a verified buyer. That's how little I think of this product. It's back, sitting in the box at home...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't charge laptop This is merely a port replicator. It's not a docking station as it DOES NOT CHARGE YOUR LAPTOP. You will still to connect your laptop to it's original A/C adapter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a "BLACK BOX" I do agree with most of the reviews on this product not being an actual docking station (more like a Black Box). A docking station would also require you to have a certain kind of pin set up on the back of your computer to plug into (that's a special order!). Anyways, this box does have its perks. Personally, I like the 1gb speed connection for the internet, and multiple USB ports IF I want....No complaints!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Worthless Piece of Hardware! Dell is standard equipment in our office and has been for years. We have purchased several hundred of their computers. Dell makes some of the greatest business products out there but this dock is one of their biggest mistakes and biggest disasters. Dell you need to completely remove this product from your selection of product solutions. First of all, as the other complaints state, this dock DOES NOT charge your computer. How idiotic of a design is this? Secondly, it constantly drops video settings and hardware. Monitors constantly go black and keyboard and mice disconnects. Worthless...DO NOT BUY!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointing I was advised by a Dell support person that this device would work with my new XPS 13 laptop. The D3100 docking station has been disappointing from the start. The drivers are on a CD - the XPS 13 does not have a CD drive. The Dell website does make it easy to find drivers or support. When I connected an external Dell monitor it did not display the images on the laptop screen. Its really just an overpriced USB hub. I don't use it all anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Been a nightmare Just wanted a simple docking station to replace the old dell. Been regretting the purchase as it was a real pain to hook up, plus the connections are so close together, if you have any adapters, you cant fit them! Real lack of instructions as well....cant seem to get my two monitors working right. Also, no tech support available from Dell

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4K is a bust The d3100 does NOT work for 4K on the HDMI port(s). Why that is not clear in the tech-specs I have no idea. SO 4k is DP only. If you need 3 monitors, then this might be a great choice, but you better be happy with 1080P over HDMI. Or have a DP 4k monitor. I wanted to like this so so much. But its fails at the very things you would buy it for. 1 its not really a doc( no power for the laptop) and 2 its 4k is very limited(Display port only) and 3 the USB hub is Sloooooooow. If I needed 3 FHD monitors I would give 5 stars, but I needed a doc and 4K on HDMI. Both are lacking here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOT A DOCKING STATION Docking Stations delver power to charge the laptop. This unit does not work as a source of power and therefore in NOT a docking station, it is a port replicator. This is a very high priced port replicator. Disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from almost really great The D3100 works really well, but does have a couple issues that I can work around. I use this with a laptop that has switchable graphics. In order for games to use the GTX1060 over the integrated graphics you need to start the game, and then plug in the dock. If you don't the game will only use the integrated graphics. Also, a full screen game doesn't always move to the screen I want when the dock is plugged in. I have to change the game to windowed mode, and move the game to the monitor I want. It's certainly not a deal breaker, but it is something that I must be aware of. I am happy with the quality of the dock overall. This is just a small inconvenience, and it may be a problem i would encounter with any dock. I'm just not sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Docking Station 3100 Issues with Mouse/Typing Lag 1) My new Inspiron 5593 Computer with Docking Station 3100 are a big disappointment (especially when my other computer was a Dell Latitude with a "real" docking station that allowed the laptop to snap into the top of the docking station and to be easily disconnected with the push of a button). This docking station is nothing other than an extension cord that plugs into your laptop with USB, etc., ports for peripherals, which is disappointing because I now need to unhook multiple connections to transport my laptop, and then re-hook everything when back at home. 2) Another disappointment is the major issue I'm having with extreme lag time with mouse and typing (5 to 8 secs) when using my external Dell monitor. The Dell support team has been very concerned with this issue and has repeatedly tried to correct the problem to no avail. They even sent out a new docking station to see if that was the issue, but it isn't. The only "solution" I stumbled across on my own is to leave the screen on the lap top open when using my external monitor...when I do that, both mouse and typing lag time disappears completely. I've been reading up on the Internet and checking with other IT techs and have found there are multiple reported problems using this type of "extension cord" docking station, including mouse and typing lag times. I've also read that having a USB Type C thunderbolt port on my laptop would solve this problem (this was an option that was never discussed at the time I made my purchase of both items with the Dell rep). I will gladly update this post if Dell can come up with a solution to my problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from D3100 Does Not Provide Power to Laptop The D3100 docking station is the first docking station that does not provide power to the laptop. The use of the D3100 requires two power supplies: One to the docking station and one to the laptop. You will never see this information in the technical specifications on the Dell website. The lack of power from the docking station to the laptop represents a very poor design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A compact station that lacks a critical function The station seems to have no way to control the computer's on-off function - Once the computer's lid is closed, it's impossible to turn the system off and on without re-opening the lid …. a nuisance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't power/charge XPS laptop If the product clearly states that it's not a complete docking station for the XPS line, then I missed it. It does well enough at expanding video outputs and USB ports, but it doesn't power or charge my laptop. It's a small inconvenience to have to plug in my laptop's power supply every time, but making things convenient is what docking stations are designed to do. This one missed the mark for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Meh..... It does the job of bringing all the peripherals together and then having one connection to the laptop. It doesn’t have two features that I highly valued on other docking stations: 1 it does not power the laptop or have a connection for the power cord. This means I have the power cord snaking down to a power strip. It also means that when I take the laptop with me I have to get the power cord also. A convenience issue that is not available with the D3100. 2) it does not have a power on button. So I have to open up the laptop and use the laptop power button. Again, another convenience issue that was available on the other docking stations I’ve had. Don’t know why Dell designed an inferior product from the start.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great to expand connections on XPS13. Downloaded the DisplayLink driver as directed, then it was plug and play. It works very well to drive a large monitor and provides hardwired ethernet connection and multiple USB connections. I've had no issues. Since the built-in connections on the XPS13 are very limited (due to the small size of the laptop) this docking station is perfect for desktop use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worthless, Complete Waste of Money! Completely disappointed in this. It does not charge my laptop, it does not extend my screens, it basically does nothing I need it to do. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never Worked and Never Will This is a big down step from the old docking stations with a wide port. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why bother? My wife couldn't make the D3100 work with her 13" XPS so she bought a 6000 leaving the D3100 to me. I also found it clunky, especially when managing displays. So, I'm now using a $20.99 USB C HDMI and port multiplier which supports two monitors and a USB 3.0 external drive. The D3100 is back in its box sitting on a shelf. I'd recommend giving an ordinary port multiplier (i.e., hub or something similar a try before buying a D3100.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null Compared to the "older" docking stations (i.e., ones into which you actually docked your laptop, i.e., physically docked and locked it in, vs. simply plugging into a USB port for this newer so-called docking station), this is inferior for my modest needs which consist of running 2 monitors, a peripheral hard drive, mouse, and keyboard. The term 'docking station' is misleading because it does not charge, a fundamental facet of the older docking stations. It is not nearly as simple to set up (working with DisplayLink driver was messy/cumbersome) and troubleshoot. I cannot figure out how to have both monitors up and functioning without keeping the laptop lid open. At any rate, it seems overpriced relative to its somewhat limited functionality... starting with power provision.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works I am an IT professional. This was the first "dock" I purchased for deployment after the E-series docking station was no longer available. Technically, this is not a docking station but a port replicator. Port replicators have historically been inferior to docking stations but you can Google that yourself if you are interested. 2 important items of note: 1, you should install the drivers prior to plugging in your laptop (Google D3100 drivers, it is now just 1 driver to install) 2, you will need a separate power supply as this device does not power or charge your laptop. To use 2 monitors, I recommend using 1 Display Port connection and 1 HDMI connection. The kit comes with one HDMI-to-DVI converter if you have an older monitor that does not have HDMI or Display Port. The Display Port should be used on the monitor with the highest resolution, if there is a difference. All in all, this dock does its job. It is small enough to place it behind monitors allowing you to reclaim some of the desktop space that the old E-series dock took up. It does tend to be a bit sensitive. If you pick-up or move the dock, the monitors will flicker off and you usually have to disconnect the USB connection and plug it back in to get them back. There is no power button on the dock so you have to open the laptop and press the power button to get it to power on or out of sleep mode.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not compatible with Windows 10 (Upgrade from Windows 8.1) This thing works OK with Windows 8.1. However as soon I upgraded to Windows 10 it was a disaster. Nothing worked properly. I tried to re-install the driver but that failed too. To be honest this upgrade to Windows 10 is turning into an absolute nightmare and Dell support does not have a clue. DO NOT UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not charge Fundamental problem is that it does not charge the laptop! IMO, you can't actually call it a "dock" if it doesn't power the laptop also. More accurate would be "multi-display adapter and USB hub". At the very least, explicitly state in the product description that it does not charge the laptop.

Page 3 of manual states that Dual Display DP: 3840x2160/30Hz and HDM1: 2560x1440 / 50 Hz. And it is not working, if I connect the D3100 to my laptop I can only get one of my LG 29UM58-P 21:9 UltraWide HD IPS monitors to work (2560x1080@60Hz) I can manage to display using only one monitor on the dock and the other connected directly to the HDMI port of the laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do Not Buy this Product for use with XPS 9350 This is the worst computer related product I have ever purchased. I bought it because it was advertised as a "docking station". My prior Dell docking stations actually "docked" the computer. Not this one. It is simply a USB port replicator. So, you have to connect your power chord directly to the laptop. OK, 2 cords (docking station USB and power). I can live with that. Nope. I bought a Dell p2715Q 4K monitor to go with my XPS 15 laptop with NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M 2GB GDDR5 so I could enjoy 4k video on my external monitor. What the "details" on this product don't tell you is that you get reduced resolution and refresh rate if you use the "docking station" as opposed to connecting a 4K monitor directly to your laptop (the paperwork in the box does tell you this once you've paid for and received the product). 3 cords. OK, not great, but I can begrudgingly live with it. Nope, external speakers hooked to the "docking station" create the worst audio latency I've ever experienced. Hooking external audio directly to the laptop eliminates the problem. Up to 4 cords. The only thing I'm now using the "docking station" for is my USB external keyboard/mouse. So far so good with that, but what's the point? Terrible product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome First Impressions, works flawlessly! I got a Yoga 900 i7 and hooked it to the docking station through a USB3 port. I'm impressed so far, smooth and simple driver installation, everything worked so far Display Port to a 4K Acer monitor, Gigabit Ethernet leveraging full band width, audio passing through DP and testing to an external USB powered speaker through the dock USB w/power, audio is clear with no lag, mouse and keyboard dongle working perfectly with a logitech pair. maximized Netflix / Youtube FHD super smooth and yes that uses 20% CPU, but general use uses very little CPU. Tried 4K streaming via You Tube and it stutters a bit (that happens though without the dock as well).. Will provide more updates when I use it a bit more.. well done Dell! Oah, yes it doesn't provide power, but that's simply the case for all USB based docks, in the future when USB-C is the defacto standards likely such a dock can power the Laptop as well, likely by end of 2016 that will be the case.. Also, not for gamers, no USB based dock likely will be for gamers anyime soon compared to direct graphics adapter connectivity...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dell D3100 Docking Station barfs blood. Sensibly, you must install drivers before plugging it into your Dell laptop. However, the drivers won't install due to some set of excuses and error messages that give you 4-5 nasty system fix-it steps that must be done to make the driver install. I'll keep trying—or I could get back to doing what customers pay me for!—and if I am someday successful, I'll gladly re-review the device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not what I was expecting I bought this unit about a month and a half ago. I don't like that it has a third party software that is asking me to buy an activation. All I asked for was a station that I could park my laptop and use my monitor, wireless keyboard, and mouse while the laptop is closed like you could just a few years ago. I talked to a rep and was impressed with their knowledge and was directed to a unit they recommened. Turns out it was the same one I already have. Still don't have what I requested.

I tried connecting my new Dell XPS 15 to a single, new Dell U2713HM monitor. Both laptop and monitor are HD. The dock works intermittently. Sometimes the monitor functions but generally not. Sometimes the keyboard, which is connected to the dock, dies in mid-sentence, requiring that it be unplugged and re-connected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolute garbage. Despite my requests to our organization's IT department for a Latitude-series laptop with an actual docking station, they bought one of the super-slim Dell Precision M3800s. No complaints about the computer itself, does great on its own...the problem is when you hook it up to this piece of junk they dare call a "docking station." A short, but not inclusive list of gripes about this product: 1) Only works with one specific USB port on the M3800, that is if you plan to use both external monitors and a host of the other peripheral ports. As luck would have it, this particular port is located on the opposite side of the power cable. Makes cable management and equipment placement a nightmare. Also, they don't bother labeling which USB port this is, so you're left guessing for the first couple days (or weeks) as to why half your stuff isn't working, until you get lucky and finally parse it all together after a couple 'Eureka!' moments. 2) Provided USB 3.0 (SS) cord isn't long enough - the nice folks at Dell (or maybe DisplayLink?) provide you with a dinky 18-in cable that acts as the single connection between your laptop and the dock. This adds to the cord management issues highlighted in Gripe #1 above. My desk is a mess because i'm so limited by what I can put where. Have an adjustable desk? Good luck getting this puny cable to make any sort of arrangement work for you. Even a 3-foot cord would've been an improvement. 3) No mounting brackets - if you're going to force me to use an 18-inch cord, at least put some wall mount brackets on this thing. Without exaggeration, I literally had my laptop sitting on top of this thing for the first couple weeks until I could get everything moved around to fit on my desk using books or anything I could find to stack other equipment on to make room. And finally, the most unforgivable one: 4) Frequent blackouts - a co-worker and I both have this product, and had the same recurring 'blackout' issue where all external monitors blanked for about 5 seconds...we finally figured out it had to do with proximity to movement of certain metal objects near the dock itself. In his case, it was every time he sat down/got up from his chair; in my case, it happens every time someone in an adjoining cube gets up or moves. Doesn't even have to contact the dock, just be within a certain range. I'm guessing the dock wasn't shielded properly from magnetic fields in some way, but i'm not an electrical engineer so I can't say for certain what's going on. Only positive is that hooking up 3 monitors is a breeze, and the visual quality is great with no slow-down, but that's really where the good stuff ends. All-in-all, this is what happens when you get a 3rd-party peripheral disguised as an OEM product. You can usually trust DisplayLink to make passable products, but not in this case. This setup may work in a home office where you have more freedom to move stuff around, but this is no setup for a professional office environment. Stay far, far, away if you're in that latter category there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from D3100 No Power to Laptop Buyers beware this is a great port replicator but it is not a true docking station that powers your computer. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even though it is not a true docking station, provides a lot of ports and works well. Although this is not technically a docking station, I like it. The three things I would like improved: 1) Mounting holes. I would like to be able to mount this to the bottom of the desk 2) A longer USB-c cable. It is very short and I have to keep the unit close to my laptop 3) An extra output for power. It would be nice if the USB-c cable split into two separate cables (one for USB-c and one for power input to the laptop). It drives me nuts that I have to have an entirely separate cable and adapter to charge my laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works fine for three displays but needs more USB ports Have had this for 6 months or so in heavy but non-intensive use in my office. I was aware that it would not charge my laptop, so that is not a factor here. No issues with three displays at 1080p 60 Hz each. The dock needs more USB ports in the back, simply for cable routing, if nothing more. It's challenging to route cables effectively if there are cables coming out of the front of the dock. My goal was to reserve the front ports for occasional flash drive and cell phone charging use. The dock has 5 USB 3.0 ports (3 front, 2 rear) - a 3 or 4 rear USB panel would be more useful. I ended up buying an inexpensive 4 port USB 3.0 hub that fits the bill.

I am programmer power user running three monitors in win 10 -- aside from the usual setup back an forths with running multi displays, once I got it right I have had zero issues -- docking and undocking it always remembers the settings. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Dock with Display Link! "Dock" may not be the best description for this item. It is a port replicator with display link. If you have a laptop, you will most likely run out of USB ports as well as HDMI/DisplayPort/VGA ports if you want to drive additional monitors. The D3100 will drive up to 3 more monitors (4K on the display port, 1440p at the 2 additional HDMI ports). Without this, your laptop will most likely be only able to attach 1 additional monitor at 1080P max resolution. I use this to drive a 32 inch 1440P and a 24 inch 1080P off of an old HP laptop (Display link is a standard so you can use on any brand of laptops/desktops). I use this on my work laptop to increase workspace. There is no lag on your mouse or anything, it is as if you are connected directly to the laptop. If you are a gamer, this most likely won't be for you. The D3100 won't be able to drive your 4K monitor for gaming or any other high frame rate applications. Hope this helps!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Throwing it away, unfortunately Ever since my 486, I have used and love Dell products. But not this one. It is now out of warranty and I have never gotten it to work -- and, even if it did, I would be disappointed that it truly is simply a port replicator. Bought a new Dell windows 10 to go with it, and fresh out of the box, they would not communicate with one another. Took several tries and a couple of weeks with a Dell support email chain before I could download new drivers to make the two products compatible, but despite getting adapter cables for it, the external monitor would work only with an old Windows 7 laptop. I ended up just plugging the monitor directly into the Windows 10 laptop. Not even going to bother trying to get the wireless keyboard to work with the docking station. I will just to a bit of plugging and unplugging when I need to take the new laptop with me -- or continue to use the old one. Shame on me for not putting all the hours I spent into it within the warranty period.

The HDMI port also didn't work with my monitor, despite several attempts to configure it. So when I dock the laptop I still have to plug in 3 cables (power, HDMI monitor, docking station) to get it set up. Not really worth the extra cost of the dock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is NOT a Docking Station!! As the title suggests, this is definitely NOT a docking station, it's a separately powered port replicator and although it works well enough it's way overpriced for what it is. Also, because it's separately powered and doesn't 'dock' in the traditional sense it adds two more cables and an extra device to an already cluttered workstation.

It’s not horrible but somewhat cumbersome unhooking my laptop. It’s pretty expensive for what you get. I would definitely shop around before buying this

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great! Makes Connecting Easy I bought this almost a year ago and use it every day to easily connect my work laptop to 2 monitors and all my peripherals with 1 USB chord. One of my monitors has an HDMI connection. The other requires a DVI to HDMI adapter. Both work great, no lag. Great image quality. I just plug in 1 USB 2.0 chord to my laptop and it works. You still have to plug in your laptop power supply. I have not used the 4K display port but I am happy that I will be future ready.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for average user IT is a great docking unit that twill definitely reduce the clatter and connections to your laptop. Only drawback is that it can not handle graphic intensive content. It was lagging too much, so don't use it for gaming either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useless for gaming I bought this product for my Alienware 13 to decrease the number of cables that I had to unplug every time I wanted to take my laptop away from my desk. Everyone who had read the description should have been aware of the fact that this wasn't a real docking station but a port replicator, which was fine with me. What wasn't fine was that it doesn't work with most of the games that run in full screen mode. I made my research and turned out that this port replicator uses DisplayLink chipset which is infamous about this issue. The only way to get past this issue is forcing the game to run in "fake full screen" mode sacrificing the performance or disabling the USB display driver (there is a tool for this released by DisplayLink), which generally makes its display ports useless. I bought it on sale, so it was still the best value for the price, since most of these USB "docking stations" use the DisplayLink chipset, but if I bought it for the regular price I would have returned it. It still does the job though as for the other features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inadequate D3100 Dell Docking Station This Dell Docking Station does not meet my needs. I want something that allows me to plug my Dell laptop into the docking station with one cord only. The laptop should then have power and drive two screens on my desk (with the laptop closed). I want to be able to turn on the laptop with a button on the docking station. The docking station I received does not have a laptop on switch. And the docking station doesn't seem to drive two screens. Note: my laptop and screens are Dell products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You cannot charge your laptop with this alone First time buying a laptop and docking station for personal use. Really surprised you cannot charge your laptop when it is docked. Just assumed they all did since all my previous work docks did so. Isn't that part of the reason to get a docking station? makes no sense to me that you have to plug into your dock and also get the power cord out as well. Which of course means plugging in, not below my desk with all the other cords, now I need to have a power cord across the desk and along the wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worthless Piece of Junk - Do Not Buy! 1 NOT a "docking station" as advertised. It's basically a port replicator, as it DOES NOT charge your laptop! 2) Choppy freeze-ups all the time. The mouse is impossible to use with this, as it freezes up and appears on the other side of the screen constantly. Do yourself a favor, and do not purchase this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not worth it Poor... disconnects randomly. I have the audio plugged in and randomly it disconnects which is a pain bc I have to restart my iTunes or whatever software I am using to play music. Also, for no apparent reason the monitors disconnect. Fortunately, they just go ‘black’ and reconnect so it’s not as much of a hassle as the audio disconnect

Rated 5 out of 5 by from D3100 Throttles Internet Connection I bought this docking station in 2016 with my Dell Inspiron 15 7000, but I didn't realize that the internet connection, using the Ethernet port on the docking station, will throttle the internet connection. My ISP provides speeds of up to 400 Mbps. When I connect my laptop directly to my router (via USB or USB-c Ethernet adapter with Ethernet cable), I can get speeds in the 400 Mbps range. However, when I connect the Ethernet cable to the docking station, the internet speed is throttled to under 100 Mbps and sometimes under 50-60 Mbps. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the device drivers and updating to the latest DisplayLink driver, but the internet speed, when connecting the Ethernet cable to the docking station, is still throttled at under 100 Mbps. As well, I followed instructions in this article, https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/qna42392/performance-display-and-network-issues-with-the-dell-usb-3-0-superspeed-dock-d3000-and-d3100?lang=en, to completely reinstall the D3100 docking station, but the internet speed, when connecting the Ethernet cable to the docking station, is still under 100 Mbps. I cannot recommend this docking station as a Ethernet connection port, since it cannot take advantage of the full internet speeds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what is says it does. I am a retired Information Technology specialists and have worked as a lead on many large projects. I recently purchased a new high-end laptop (16 gig ram 512 gig ssd). I install things like a full blown Oracle Database, Finale Music composition, Dragon Naturally speaking, photo editing tools, and etc. I use multiple HDMI monitors, external HDs & DVD, a printer & scanner. So I have a lot of demand for throughput to peripheral devices. So, I pulled the D3100 out of the box, hooked up 2 HDMI monitors, LAN cable, DVD player, USB speakers, Fitbit charge cable, wireless keyboard/mouse, a stereo headset, and a printer, leaving only the 4K monitor slot empty (I don't own one ... yet). It all works flawlessly without any problems or hesitation. A device well worth the money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just wish it supported dual 4K Overall, this docking station is well made and versatile! The only thing that would make it more complete for me would be dual 4K display capability. It only seems to support a single 4K monitor, which limits its functionality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I currently use this docking station for my ASUS ROG G752VS. My laptop DOES support 4K there for, the dock does output at 4K. The item mentioned is in fact, a port replicator. This means that the dock doesn't supply power. Just additional outputs. Once the drivers for this port replicator are correctly installed, everything works. fine. I could even game with it if I wanted to. Don't listen to the other reviews. Just understand that the item purchased doesn't work like magic. It requires hardware of a high enough caliber to use it. Also understand that this dock is best supported by the model numbers listed. You can however use the dock for other model laptops (as I do). Just don't get mad if your graphics card isn't strong enough to support three monitors. FYI, I have a GTX 1060 desktop grade card in my laptop. I can output at three 4k monitors. The game itself on one and standard use apps on the other two plus my laptop monitor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Display Expansion Dock - Has Some Cavets Dock connection DOES NOT charge a connected laptop. This line of docking stations only intended to extend or expand display options. It does that well. CAUTION on using UltraWide displays as the docking station connection does not recognize their expanded resolutions & so only uses the source PC or laptop resolution settings to extend to the connected displays. I use my work laptop - Dell Latitude 7480 - running a 1920x1080 resolution. The laptop connects using either the USB-C or USB 3.0 ports. If I connect a separate UltraWide display directly to the HDMI port, I am allowed to use the 2560x1080 wide resolution - only for the connected display. And it looks great! However using the UltraWide display with the dock only get me a "stretched" 1920x1080 resolution which is so-so but it works. I've been using this DisplayLink docking unit since Jan2018 - absolutely no device issues. All other ports work fine. Also note that, the dock takes over audio too. Plug-in 3.5mm audio at the dock or select a different audio set via the machine settings. I have not tried updating the docking station drivers as I'm locked-out of making such administrator updates on my work machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a Docking Station This is quite expensive and is simply a port replicator-- not a docking station. It does not charge the laptop. It also requires many cords for connections-- this does not simplify or clean up your desk like you think it might. I would not purchase this again. The only advantage that this would afford is if you use 2 or more additional monitors. I only use 1... so the net plug in devices to the computer are the same with or without the port replicator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horrible, Horrible, Horrible (Do Not Buy!) ...unless you want a paper weight! Specs wise on paper, this unit seems to be pretty good. Able to display to 3 monitors, 2 x HDMI's and DisplayPort, USB hub, line out audio, all in a compact design. Would be great is this unit actually works. It doesn't! Line out audio - doesn't work. USB port - Logitech M705 mouse (new), lags USB port - Lenovo wireless keyboard (new), lags What's the point of having a computer if I can't type with it! Useless unit! Then, the icing on the cake.... DisplayPort - don't ever depend on this unit to display 4K @ 60Hz. It displays only does 30Hz. Even at 2560x1440 on DisplayPort, the HDMI outputs to 1080p at less than ideal resolution. I have to stop using it and now it's my paper weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Returned both of them I bought two of these docks as I work in two locations and wanted to make it very easy to plug and play back and forth. The idea is nice and when it works it's nice, but the external monitor will not wake up from sleep despite all the windows USB management and after putting on the latest driver as recommended by Dell, it now also freezes up. In fact I went to write this review and it froze up...so I packed it all up in it's box before writing the review. Both will be on their way back to Dell. I spent a lot of time both with Dell and with DisplayLink (the driver maker) and have got nowhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be wary of this docking station. I have a new Dell docking station on my office computer and no problems with it. I bought a docking station when I bought a new home computer. I use it with the new laptop and two monitors. The problem is that the keyboard is very sluggish. I will type two or three words before they show up on the monitor. The mouse operates very erratically, sometimes moving normally and sometimes not moving for several second when it takes off. I tested the keyboard and mouse with my office computer, and they worked fine. The only conclusion I can come to is that it is a problem with the docking station.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible Product and Waste of Money I purchased an XPS 15 to replace my desktop so I had more flexibility where I worked. Like many people, I use multiple displays with my computer, so it was important for me to have a docking station with this laptop. Unfortunately, this USB docking station is garbage, compared to an actual docking station, like the ones compatible with business class laptops. When I originally plugged in the docking station, it took my a while to figure out how to get everything setup (and I do this kind of stuff for a living). The monitors wouldn't maintain their arrangement, the color is terrible and a noticeable mouse lag rounds out the top three worst things I could've asked for. Finally, I ended up plugging in an HDMI cable to my primary monitor directly to the laptop to mitigate some of these issues. The USB hub functionality of this docking station is just about the only part that works. I haven't had any issues with USB devices I've plugged into the docking station. In summary, I would highly suggest looking at other USB docking stations, unless you don't mind wasting money on useless products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dell Docking Station (D3100) I have been using this product for approximately three months. I have a home office and use my Alienware 15 to run all MS Office programs plus streaming video (I'm a Netflix fan. When working with documents I use my laptop screen plus an Acer 23" HD monitor and a wireless keyboard and mouse. I have an ethernet cable running directly from the router to the docking station. I have gigabit service and get approximately 900 Mbps at the laptop with the VPN turned off. The D3100 was easy to set up and easy to use. The only glitch seems to be that I have to plug the dongle for the wireless mouse directly into my laptop instead of the D3100. Not sure what that's about. Otherwise, I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOT a Docking Station... Does NOT power laptop Labeled a docking station, I assumed this would power my laptop and it does NOT. Essentially this is a port replicator and unless you are using two or more monitors, headsets, etc. it buy's you nothing for your money. I end up with an additional device on my desk and a laptop that still requires minimum two cords plugged into it. That's the same number of cords without the "docking station". Dell, you need to do a better job at labeling your products on your website. The product was easy to install and works well for what it actually does.
