Simply the best.
Been using 87v models for over 10 years. New employer required personnel to purchase tools on their personal dime. Didn't hesisitate to get this model. Even though cheaper units are available. I preach Fluke to other industrial mechanics. The electricians already know about the trust in Fluke. Mainly 5 star review. -1 for the test leads. I have replaced too many sets simply because they quit working. Not pleased with the test leads. Fluke, you can do better in this aspect.

Best quality meter on the market, HANDS DOWN.
Got this last month, hands down the best meter you can get. I've been using another brand for awhile, getting some flaky readings for too long. Got this and it's been on the money now with no need for multiple readings to get averages. It's Fluke or get out for me now.

In My Opinion: Superb Meter Has Disappointments..
Meter itself seems to be fine; all ranges & calibrations seem nominal. Packaging indicates unit was manufactured within a month of arrival. Packaging also indicates meter was made in the US… but surprisingly, no ‘made in’ markings were found on the actual instrument.
It irks me to have confidence in ordering a ‘Lexus’ grade instrument, only to be disappointed by:
1.) Low end stiff springy leads! Where’s the forever ‘fabled in story and song’ Fluke silicone leads? Yes the ones included are (TL75) Fluke branded, but look/feel ‘econobudget’. See photo below.
2.) No included printed manual! Whats with that?!? (If desired one can be ordered free of charge; and/or viewed/downloaded online.)
3.) No Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Certification! Unless I missed it, but close examination of the instrument & packaging revealed nothing. Meter does exhibit other certifications….
The above three surprises earned a two star rating reduction. It’s sad one can’t order and expect the best without having to scrutinize ad copy.

There is No “Better”. The 87V is The Best!
The 87V is the most consistently accurate and phenomenally useful handheld digital multimeter in existence. Nothing new there. I have had occasion to use and compare more than fifteen new 87V’s over the past 4 years and every one was a winner! During that time, I also owned, used and sold about 7 or 8 wannabe’s that closely copied the best features of the 87V at much lower cost. But, all were major disappointments due to shortcomings in design, safety, accuracy, dependability and overall usability. Yes, the 87V is an expensive handheld BUT, it’s worth every penny because of its long history of proven performance in all kinds of situations. You just can’t do better than a FLUKE 87V.

Still as excellent as ever
Finally decided to upgrade my 20 year old 2000 count 3.5 digit "Shack" meter. Let's not kid ourselves - this thing is pricey. But for the money you get a lot. And SAFETY. The 6000/20,000 count accuracy is great, but the response time, ruggedness, and true CAT ratings make this a "buy and forget" 4.5 digit meter. No regrets. If I own this for 20 years again it will be a joy to own. No need for data logging, USB, etc. I have other bench instruments for that. Fluke quality, still made in USA.

Best DMM
Very best quality dmm, very useful essential features pack dmm. No hanky fanky features in it. But ac bandwidth is very low for smps and video related analog electronics servicing. Camper to price min 50khz required. If 100khz better than best. Present time all smps operate above 40khz. Fluke know it. I use Philips make PM 2718 past 20 years. I use 87v past 3 years. Meter work very good. No problem yet. Do something else for bandwidth. I like lifetime warranty from Fluke Corporation. Thanks.

87V because the 289 isn't a good choice.
Although our use case is Electronic R&D I choose the 87 V, an industrial meter, over the 289. Yes, I could use the better precision of the 289 but the 87 V has a better reputation, longer battery life and 289's logging features don't work with Linux and are too cumbersome anyway.

The Cadillac of Multimeters
I've purchased several meters over the years. They would last 3-4 years then they found their way to the trash can. This Fluke 87V with its lifetime warranty will keep me from buying another meter (besides Fluke) ever again. I don't mind paying for quality that's built in the USA. That being said I own another Fluke, the 17b plus. While it's not the build of the 87V ,these two meters complement each other very well.

The good and bad of the 87V
I recently researched several Fluke brand multi-meters because I need a quality multi-meter. The Fluke brand is the only brand I was
considering, its USA made, etc., quality design and parts, warranty and great reputation. I think there are other good meter brands and some of them have features I wish Fluke would consider. I suppose what I really want is a Fluke 87-6. This review is just my opinion of the 87V, as it is currently manufactured. My opinion is only about its features. I have no issue with the quality of the product. I got much of my information from Fluke's printed information, talking to Fluke reps and retailers, YouTube reviews, verified Amazon purchases, etc. The 87V has features I like, but is also missing some features I feel are very important.
Other Fluke models I was considering lack too many features, or have issues the 87V doesn't. So, I narrowed my choice of a meter to either this model, possibly a new Fluke model, or perhaps one of their competitors, like Agilent. I know litle about Agilent meters, but due to the lack of features I do want on the 87V, I am going to at least see what Agilent has to offer. There may also be other brands I should consider also, but I have no clue what brands those should be. As for the 87V, I don't know how to give it features it doesn't have, and that is why I will be looking at some other brands. But I'm wondering if there is any manufacturer that makes a meter with all the features, accuracy, and quality of the 87V meter, but without any of its shortcomings? Btw, I don't mean that to read as an invitation to any brand bashing.
I also agree with the guy on YouTube's EEVBLOG, who said that for the high price of Fluke meters they should give you the magnet-strap.
Furthermore, I say give me the magnet-strap and keep the leads, or drop the meter's price and let me pick my own accessories. This policy of Fluke's making you purchase each and every extra accessory is redundant. They give you test leads and alligator clips with a meter but they might not be the accessories you would choose -- perhaps you already have them. So, just as you must pay for accessories you do want, Fluke is forcing you to pay for accessories you don't want. You should be able to purchase this model without any leads. I'm sure that would lower the cost.
FLUKE 87V, SIX GOOD FEATURES:
1. The 87V has a greater diode voltage test range 2.4V test of an LED.
2. A louder audible continuity signal
3. Easy to read buttons.
4. 41/2 digits display.
5. The 9V battery gives better protection against leakage than double AA batteries (when batteries are left in a meter for extended periods of time without usage).
6. It has fairly decent shockproof protection.
FLUKE 87V FOUR BAD FEATURES:
1. One of the worst issues with the Fluke 87V model, is that it has self tapping metal screws going into the plastic case halves that can strip the plastic half. Combining dissimilar materials almost always causes some kind of a problem, sooner or later.
2. It needs more protection from rain (you cant always choose your test environment, for example, outdoor automotive or marine diagnosis).
3. It needs glow in the dark buttons, that activate with the backlight "if" one chooses to turn it on (again, you cant always choose when or where you have to use a tool).
4. It has no on/off button, so you can set the meter to test function, before turning the meter on (a very desirable feature, that many have an issue with)
If Fluke fixed those issues, as well as, keeping the good features (some products get worse when they get revised), then I would definitely buy a 87V in a heartbeat. But that would most likely call for a new model revision, an 87 VI.
Btw, sorry for any typos, misspelling, grammar errors there may be.
ADDENDUM: Someone suggested that a headphone port, or a screen that flashes the word continuity could be useful, when testing for continuity in a noisy environment. That's not something I needed, but I do understand the suggestion .

Great Meter! Couple gripes..
I'm using this meter for electronics repair and love it! It's very accurate and has a nice loud continuity tone. And the tone isn't annoying either. However, there are a couple small grips I have. Including a safety manual instead of a user manual is not smart at all. Why not include the user manual and leave it up to the user to download the safety manual if they want? I'm honestly baffled by that choice... How do I get a printed manual? The 2nd gripe I have are the test leads. The price you pay I would have expected much better! They look and feel like a cheap pair of Chinese test leads. On top of that, why are the lead wires hard plastic instead of soft silicone? What year is this again? And when you use these test leads in the cold they become more rigid and hard to work with. Do yourself a favor and keep the leads in th box and buy a nice pair of probe master leads. Other than those 2 downfalls, I love the meter and is exactly what I wanted.

Fluke 87 V, calibrated out of the box?
I've been using these for a lot of years and they work very well. I purchased a new one this week and there's no certificate of Calibration? I assume Fluke wouldn't sell me an out of tolerance produce. And given their product line, knows the importance of a calibration certificate. So is the unit calibrated or not?

I have been using a Fluke 87 III for almost 5 years. The person that had it before me retired just before I started. I have only had to change the battery once or twice. This meter is built tough, I have dropped it a few times and it keeps working great. I use the meter on 480VAC and under and 24VDC. Good Metet
I had to buy a new 87V as mine was stolen, and its a good meter that you can trust. But I have to agree with another review that gave it poor reviews because of the leads. I have purchased a 117/323 kit a while back and the cheaper meter came with the better leads.
Fluke if you hear me, do us all a favor and include you twistguard leads (TL175), your Tpac hanger, and some sort of case. For such a expensive meter you cheap out with the accessories, and really who needs a Thermometer?

I work in the electric utility sector and we issue these meters to our relay test crews. Every tester/technician carries two Fluke DMM's (87 and 289) and every person prefers their Fluke 87. These meters are simple to use, reliable, and respond quickly (we flash DC circuits to prove electrical paths). I ordered several new meters this year as replacements for our vintage 87's and will be ordering more as we replace older meters. It would be difficult to find a better alternative for this meter.

Gold Standard for DMM's
I own the 115 and this 87-V and they are both high quality, well-built meters. The 115 is good but the build quality of this meter is unsurpassed IMO. The display contrast of the LCD panel is much better on this meter, which makes it noticeably easier to read. The back lighting is more even as well in the 87-V, and has two brightness levels. Continuity readings for up to the most ohms of any multimeter I've seen. So many nice features like nano-siemens, 1,000 VDC & VAC, max/min for sine wave diagnosis, includes settings for micro volts for electronics, and many neat push button while turning on features you can find on youtube and in internet articles. For the price you know you are getting the best multimeter in the advanced category that hopefully lasts a lifetime.

Great service life and support at the end of life
I have had my Model87 III for over fifteen years and I bought it used. It always was reliable and very tough. So when I began having issues with the unit reading correctly I had my tool dealer send it in for repairs. Fluke wasted very little time responding with an unavailability of parts to fix that model and offered my the latest version for an amazing price and shipped my new to me. It performs just as expected and it will for many years to come.

Good meter, bad support
Its a good meter, when the display went bad i contacted fluke to have it repaired, I was bluntly told that my version was too old and they didn't support it any longer but they offered to sell me a new one. The older meters are the ones that need support, not the newer ones. At their price point they should do better.

Great Multimeter!
I picked up this multimeter a few months ago for doing some electrical work around my house, in my RV, and on my truck. So far, it was worked great! The body is a durable plastic, the screen is large and easy to read, and it has a ton of different functions. I am still learning how to use many of the different functions, but this has still proven to be a valuable tool to have in my toolbox!

Great Meter! Would have liked different leads
The 87V is well known to be a rock solid meter. This has definitely been the case for me. No problems whatsoever with the meter. I mainly deal with circuit-level electronics so it is an annoyance that the current ranges default to AC current, but that is a minor complaint. It would be awesome if somehow this was user-configurable. My meter came with the extra-insulated leads but without the removable caps. I think they ship with removable caps now, but I could be mistaken. Fluke also sells leads with a retractable insulation. At the least, I would have preferred to receive the version with removable caps with the meter.

The goto handheld for troubleshooting wiring
Initially started using these in the military while working Avionics on Fixed and Rotary wing aircraft. Fell in love with them back then and have continued to use to this day. Currently these are used by our service personnel and engineers in the lab. This is a good meter to own and put in the tool box. I continue to use mine at home along with a newer one at work. I am happy with both.

I bought my 87V combined with a PRV240 proving meter. I've been using Fluke products for a long time they are highly accurate, reliable and safe. The Fluke 87 V is the latest incarnation of the Fluke 87 and improves on a time tested recipe of performance, durability and safety. The meter features some great additions such as temperature measurements via a thermocouple. This meter pretty much does everything I need in an industrial atmosphere and I cannot recommend it enough.

The Only Brand of meters I trust
I started my career in electro mechanical maintenance using a Beckman DMM, but after witnessing a coworker almost lose his life due to having his meter in ohms while measuring a high voltage source and the protection circuit failed, I switched to Fluke.
I have used and trusted with my life Fluke meters in my job since 1988, everything from the Fluke 12 , 70, 87II, 287, and I recently purchased my 87V, since my lose of my 87II due to theft. I would recommend Fluke meters to other people with out hesitation.

#1 Meeter
I purchased the Fluke 87V about a year ago and it has never let me down. I work with a lot of technicians and my Fluke out preforms so of the other name brand units that are just to slow for I like to see. Others have Snap on and Mac branded units that they paid more for and still have issues with Hertz and the rate of change is way to slow when checking just basic voltage. I also own an 87 version one, that still works, it was clicking for a little, that's the reason why I got the new version 5, but it eventually started working again. I guess it just needed a rest. My 88 as well that the screen started to fade, repiared with just a cleaning of the contacts. I have not found a better meter.

Superior Quality.
Just received my Fluke 87v in the mail. The unit was supplied with a basic lead set with protective caps for Cat IV testing per IEC 61010-031k requirements. As compared to my Snap-on and Klein meters this Fluke is superior in quailty of build and function. I haven’t had it long enough to put it through all its paces, so I cannot comment on some of the other issues that other reviewers have posted. I have read on other online forums that Fluke sometimes charges a hefty fee for repairs even with the lifetime warranty. So only time will tell if my purchase was a complete success, however so far, I have no buyer’s remorse.

A lot to like
I bought my Fluke 87V as a backup for those situations where I needed to use two meters at the same time. It has quickly become my primary troubleshooting tool.
I like it's accuracy, solid feel and intuitive controls.
The only place for improvement is on the leads. They're perfectly functional, but compared with the "same" leads that shipped 3 years ago with my Fluke 289. They're clearly inferior. The silicone insulation is more rigid and there is excessive flashing at the over-molds at the meter end.

I bought the 87V several years ago and have used it many times. It is versatile for most anything I want to do. I am a DIY'er and don't use it professionally but I use quite often in automotive, household, and electronics. The diode function is quite useful for anything from alternator checks to small electronic circuit and component troubleshooting. I've used in the house to check everything from my AC run capacitors in the capacitance mode to the thermostat and temp control in my wife's ovens using the thermometer function. Great meter, disappointing leads
Just got the meter and it so far the meter itself seems great.
Was rather shocked by the leads provided. The cat IV rating is with cheap plastic caps that snap on, we will see how long those last. And the alligator clips just slide on so as soon as I get the first nick in the probe I imagine those will start failing.
Was expecting a bit more from a company like Fluke. The meter is awesome so I guess I'll just have to by decent set of leads when these wear out in a few months.

Great Meter, horrible leads
I purchased 87V + electricians kit yesterday. The meter works great, but the leads are horrible. The leads have a plastic covering up to two millimeters from the edge of the tips preventing the leads from being able to be inserted into plug receptacles! This must be a marketing decision from Fluke, to ensure greater, forced sales of other leads. Any, and all electricians will require different leads, and this decision by Fluke is unacceptable, especially on the 87v which isn't cheap to begin with, and is their top tier model.
I'm returning the meter today. There are many other manufactures to choose from.

Very Good Meter
I've had this meter a couple of months now and like this meter. I knew being a Fluke it would of good quality. The reason I got this particular model was it covers all of the standard features in one meter. The main one that I needed was to be able to measure 4-20ma signals. The Fluke 87 V is every bit as durable and full-featured as my old meter. Plus, it adds temperature measurement and "Hi Res" as a bonus. My company designs audio equipment, so we frequently need to obtain an RMS measurement with a test tone while we measure toasty the power amp is getting.

Great DVMs
Fluke makes reliable, durable, and dependable DVMs. I still use my Fluke 23 DVM after more than 25 years but purchased the 87V to get:
- Back light, for easier to see measurements in a poor lighting conditions.
- Larger display digits
- Relative measurements: to compare measurements (parts) or cancel out test lead contributions.
- Built-in capacitance and temperature reading ability.
- Higher diode test voltage
- Configurable 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 digit display
- Low current measurements (uA)
- Low voltage measurement (mV)
- Frequency and duty cycle measurements
- Min max average measurements
- Selectable continuity tone
- Built in fuse test
- Lead configuration error tone
- Optional magnetic DVM holding strap, to free up your hands or work space.
- Optional silicon lead and probe kit.
The DVM still provides autohold and a related min/max/ave function that helps you monitor a measurement by providing feedback when a new value is detected. Two different response times may used. This feature can also be combined with the high-resistance measurement ability to get a stable reading. A few other features provide bar graph adjustments and input low-pass filtering.

Simply the best and safest DMM on the market. There is very little that you can't do with this marvel. The premium price that you are paying is for the additional safety features. For a DIY such as myself safety is my top priority. There are cheaper DMM that can do many of the same things as the 87V but as soon as you check the CAT ratings you see why they are cheaper.

Great performer–but one nagging issue
I bought this meter less than a week ago and found it to be very robust and accurate. However, when switched to DC amps, the meter always reads 0.004 A disconnected from any load, with or without leads attached. In order to get accurate DC current readings, I must zero it out with the REL (delta) button first. Then the readings are spot on with my Fluke 177. This doesn't sound right to me. Shouldn't the 87V read near 0.000 A in DC amps position?

Well Worth The Price
I've been using Fluke test equipment on and (much to my chagrin off again for nearly 40 years. They have always been durable, reliable, accurate, and easy to use, and the 87V is no exception. I purchased the 87V to replace an aging 77 that "grew legs" and wandered off earlier this year. (Thinking back, I don't think I've ever had to replace a Fluke meter because it failed on me.)
At first, I thought I could manage with a multimeter from another manufacturer. It worked, I suppose, but I missed my old 77 and decided to buy a new 87. I'm glad I did! And I'm looking forward to getting another one in about 30 years or so. :)

My copy was produced in 2019 and the quality of external parts(holster, dmm case, knob is not so good as it was before. Screen lens has tiny black specks inside of it(I've checked both sides carefully, they are inside that transparent polymer!). External plastic and rubber parts shows various flashes... And the most "exciting" part is that Fluke support(US and EU) ignores my messages...

Excellent feature rich multimeter
I have purchased my first Fluke multimeter in 2016 which is Fluke 87-V and I am really happy with my purchase. This DMM is excellent feature rich and I use its most of the features. I have purchased it for my workbench for my electronics repair work. This multimeter is absolutely accurate and reliable for serious electronics engineers and repair technicians. I have repaired lots of complicated electronics equipments using this DMM. I've found that all over the world reputated industrial electronics repair companies using this 87-V model for their high tech electronics labs and workstations. I have found that diode test voltages of this DMM is very sufficient for all types of IGBT modules or single IGBT, MOSFET and other Transistors and Diode testing. Nanosiemense Conductance function also I use most for checking of components leakage test. And I'm really happy that this function is very useful for checking Diode, Transistors, FET, Mosfet and other semiconductors leakage resistance test. However I didn't find any video on internet for this useful feature but mentioned in user manual of this DMM model. I have found that I can test shorted component in circuit rail with the help of mV scale and external power supply hookup to shorted rail. Other all features and functions are also very accurate and useful as well in this DMM. Hidden features of this DMM also really useful specially 2 REL function where I can easily monitor the offset values of any specific measurement for example; if checking any voltage drifting in higher or lower range (offset value I can simply press relative button and meter display shows 0 and once measurement starts it will show any drifting value positive side or negative side from that values. I use this function in resistance measurement mode also for testing variable resistors like volume or pot for any jumps or intermittent skipping in viper terminal of them. Min/Max/Avg mode also great and accurate also useful for recording measurements over time. All and all this multimeter is awesome and preferable for all of those who are troubleshooting and repairing delicate electronics equipments. I have purchased Fluke 117 and Fluke 325 Clamp meter also after satisfied with Fluke performance.
