3. HP ProBook 450 G8 Laptop

Intel Core i5 CPU, 256 GB SSD

Looking for a more affordable option still great for business? Meet the HP ProBook 450 G8. If you’re already familiar with the HP G series, the key difference between the HP ProBook 450 G8 and its G7 generation predecessor is a new chassis with an aluminum lid and plastic base, plus a new, thinner bezel design. The G8 has also shed some weight – it weighs about 20% less than its predecessor. The Intel Core i5 processor packs a punch and can deliver solid performance even for a little gaming (everyone needs a break from the business grind, right?) and carries a solid 16GB RAM.

The ProBook 450 G8 has some nice features you may not find in every business laptop, including a spill-resistant keyboard, glare-resistant display, and fingerprint reader. Some models also have IR face recognition sensors for an added layer of security plus a privacy shutter for its 720p webcam.

You also get a plethora of ports, ranging from a security slot, RJ-45 connector and USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen 1) on the left and a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen 2) port, two more USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen 1) ports, an HDMI port, an audio jack, and MicroSD card reader. In a world where ports and jacks seem to be disappearing at a rapid clip, this is a win for many users.

The HP EliteBook 850 G8 is quite like the EliteBook 840 G8 we went over first, with a few key differences. For one, cost—this configuration of the 850 costs about $400 less at the time of writing. The storage capacity of this EliteBook 850 G8 configuration is also less than the 840 at 256 GB vs. 512GB. Finally, the 840 weighs significantly less than the 850 with a smaller desktop footprint as well. However, the 850 does have a slightly larger screen at 15.6” vs. 14” with the 840.

Other than these differences, the devices are basically the same, with the same number of ports (although the 850’s Thunderbolt 4 ports don’t support DisplayPort and Power Delivery), same speakers, and same webcam. Plus they both have super speedy NVMe SSDs. Not sure what makes NVMe SSDs so special? Read our article comparing the different types of SSDs to each other.
