Simply the WORST Rack console I've ever used
A rack mount console should essentially just be a monitor, keyboard and mouse/touch-pad that can fold away and fit nicely in 1U of space. That is about all this unit accomplishes. The keyboard is laid out in such a way as to be virtually useless. Most console keyboards bear a closer resemblance to a laptop keyboard, and that's fine in most cases where space is constrained. This keyboard however is laid out like nothing I've ever seen before anywhere.
The Enter key is like an upside down L and the "\" key has been moved down to sit between your fingers at rest on the home row and the enter key. This effectively means you will almost never hit enter, instead hitting the "\" most times. To press enter, you'll have to stretch way over to the right. A Page UP key occupies the space where most of the right Shift key would be, with the Page Down, and four directional arrow keys, awkwardly placed just below that. The CTRL and ALT keys that would normally occupy that space have been crowded to the left, shrinking the space bar to no more than three keys wide. It's even worse on the left side as the Left Shift key is no larger than any other normal key, which is very strange considering that just to the left of the shift key, there are two blank keys that seem to serve absolutely NO useful purpose what so ever.
As if the keyboard layout wasn't bad enough, this console has a few other less than charming features. There's the power button for the monitor that is lit when the monitor is off, and off when the monitor is on. Strangely also, the unit shuts itself down if it doesn't detect a signal, so if you're connected to a device you're trying to troubleshoot, you'll also be fighting with your console trying to keep it actively powered on. There's a strange firmware cable port that looks like it uses an RJ11 connector, so you'll have to keep track of yet another oddball serial connector just for your console. And this port has a physical switch next to it that does something that's either "normal" or "recover". The console hooks up using a standard VGA input and (GASP) PS/2 mouse and keyboard connectors! Most servers no longer even ship with PS/2 style connectors any more and this thing is being shipped with that new? Then there's also a USB port on the front of the console drawer, but because it isn't connected via true USB, the only real things you can connect to it would be a REAL mouse or Keyboard. Finally, there's the mechanism that locks the console in the extended position when it's slid out and opened. There are a couple of tabs on the side of the tray that need to be pulled toward the user to unlock the rails and allow the console tray to be slid back into a closed position in the rack. I can't count the number of times I've pinched my fingers in this while trying to close the console.
Simply put, this console is a wreck of a design. Do yourself a favor, and buy one made by ANYONE else. You'd be better off with a monitor, keyboard and mouse on a crash cart rather than use this unit.

Great size and quality
This was the perfect addition to our rack. It is a good size, not too small. I had to add a KVM Switch because I didn't realize it doesn't come with the KVM switch, but that was completely an oversight on my part.

Solid Functionality
These have been used in a few of our customers installs and they always end up being the favorites. They're solid functionality and are a great value, especially when used with the APC racks!

Awesome if it's within your budget!
We love these things! Much better than just using a shelf with a keyboard tray and spare monitor. If you can afford to go with one of these you definitely won't regret it! The bigger the better but this smaller model will be just fine for some. The space savings are worth the cost alone :)
