Cannot get customer service to call for return
I bought this ahead of receiving a laptop from my company. When the laptop arrived it have one in the box so I would like to return it. Two emails to HP using the return items page and three weeks later still no contact from HP. The dock is great. Customer service very poor.

Pricey but so much better than USB splitters!
I spent more than a year debating whether to buy this dock. It received several negative reviews - so instead I used USB splitters and VGA adapters to run a 3-screen setup and full workstation. I wish I had just purchased this from the beginning. The most important feature is the ability to turn the laptop on and off using the power button on the dock. I do not have to open the lid every time I want to turn it on or off, which was a major pain. I have been using the device for a few weeks and the screen connections are smooth, the USB devices are easy to add / eject, and the internet connection through device is great. All through one combined power/thunderbolt connection (freeing up 3 slots on the laptop itself. No complaints. If you have the money for it and you use a full office setup with your laptop, you need this.

Terrible out-of-box experience
The dock comes with a simple pictographic instructions that implies that all you need to do is plug it in and it will work. This is not true with the latest ZBooks. In fact, out of the box only the DisplayPort is functional.
HP's online help says that it isn't functional out-of-the-box because the user needs to first authorize the Thunderbolt Connection, using Intel's Thunderbolt Secure Connect Software. But on the latest ZBook with latest Windows 10 and the latest Thunderbolt dock firmware & drivers there is no such software. The instructions do not say where to get it. HP Support says to download it from the drivers page, but it is not there.
This is because on the latest ZBook this is not the correct software -- essentially they're saying to install software that would not work from a place where you can't get it. The correct software can ONLY be installed from the Windows Store. HP's instructions still have not been updated as to this fact.
Once the correct software is installed from the Windows Store, does the dock work? Not if you want to use an external keyboard with the ZBook in closed (clamshell) mode. Even with the Thunderbolt security disabled in the BIOS, it has a problem where the USB (and network?) port is not functional until you login to Windows. But you can't login, because since the USB port doesn't work, neither does an external keyboard, so you can't enter the login password.
Also, unlike previous HP docks, HP says that you shouldn't undock or dock while the computer is sleeping. You have to have it either awake or turned off.

Using for the first time: useless
I bought this and a laptop in May, the laptop a special configuration and so it shipped from China and arrived in China. As I discovered today, the dock does not plug into my laptop. Useless. I went to great pains in chat on the HP website to order the correct dock. I asked and reasked. The part they recommended is wrong.

Thunderbolt Dock - where's the lightning?
Very cool package, very convenient USB-C single cable hookup. Was going to be the cornerstone of my office workflow (multiple locations, multiple docks, one laptop moving between them all). BUT...when you read the fine print...way down in the user manual (that you have to find online)...it will only drive ONE high resolution external monitor???

It failed within two weeks
After problems with my previous docking station I was told the expensive one was my only option. It arrived 4 days late after I paid for expedited shipping (which was refunded) and promptly failed within a 2 weeks. Another one is on the way. I'll be honest. The whole experience with the ZBook I bought last fall has been pretty bad.

No name writen on the product
Hello: I was given the thunderbolt to be used for my laptop. The instructions for the product in the box do not have the name of the product. It says: go to the user guide and follow instructions. My suggestion: please write the name of the product in the print out which is enclosed in the box. Otherwise, I have to guess how it is called. Thank you.

Good Feature List - Horrible connector system
On the rare occasion that the cable and connector is positioned perfectly and not touched, the system is great.
The Thunderbolt/USB-C connector and/or cable is horribly sensitive. Any movement of the laptop, cable or dock causes loss of connectivity and minutes or hours of repositioning components, cables in order to put the stress on the cables/connector to get connectivity back. The Thunderbolt software driver is hard to get back online and responding when this connection glitch occurs. Several co-workers have the same problem, so I don't believe this is an issue with this particular unit.
I've abandoned the dock and now use a cable to my HDMI port, forgoing the multi-display capabilities that made the dock useful.

Not plug-n-play
Great product, great features once you get it going. But do not expect to just hook it up and it to work immediately. If you are computer savvy and like a challenge, get it. Had to do several hours of research and troubleshooting before getting it to work properly every time. You must download several drivers, software, and firmware updates for this unit. Also some Bios settings must be properly selected for this to function correctly. Would be great if HP made some sort of bulletin on how to install all of the necessary settings....

An excellent Dock, the best in market
I've been trying to find a dock with dual display port entry and supported my dual UltraWide 21:9 HD monitors from LG (29UM58-P). This dock is awesome!, my dell laptop works awesome (got rid of my Dell dock). I have one of this docks at work, so when I bring my laptop in order to work from home there are no glitches. Works great!
Purchased the dock and a new HP ZBook17 G5 laptop two weeks ago. I connected the single Thunderbolt3 (USB-C) combo cable from the dock to my laptop's Thunderbolt port with adjacent power port and voila -- everything works great. From the dock I'm running a 4K HDR monitor, keyboard, and mouse. No problems at all. It is so convenient to attach/detach one cable to my laptop. I'm planning on buying a Thunderbolt external SSD drive to connect to the dock for backups.

Replacement for the HP Thurnderbolt 3 Dock
HP support recommended that we change to this dock to replace the Thunderbolt 3 docks that they could not get to work. When connected our Studio G4 laptops would blue screen 100% of the time. When we connected this dock, under the direction of HP support, it blue screened our laptops and they did not boot again. Our option was to rebuild all of the Studio G4's that we tried with this dock.

Docking station need about hour of extra configuration, downloading about 1GB of extra bloatware from HP to get it work with a new HP zbook G5. A power button integrated with top is really stupid idea. Only a few connectors available. No HDMI, no chance to connect SATA disk, PCI devices... Is it DOCK or very expensive USB hub??

Nice dock
The combo cable seems to be a great idea, in that you connect the USB-C port and the charging port together. The cable is a bit stiff, but hopefully in the long run this stiffness equates to longevity of the cable. The dock is fairly compact, but does have a bit of style to it. You do need to take care with the cables that plug in, as the dock can tip to the back with the weight of the cables if the cables are allowed to be dead weight.
This was installed on a computer on a domain network, and we quickly found out that the first login of the laptop after connecting to this dock needs to be made with an account with administrative privileges that already existed on the laptop. After this first login, several drivers are installed, including I believe the driver for the dock ethernet port.
We got the dock with the audio option, which had to be attached to the dock. There was even a screw driver included to take the original top off and replace it with the audio top. Based on the limited used so far, the audio quality seems to be fine. Just don't expect booming audio from a speaker this size.
Of course, only time will tell how durable the dock is, which it better be at this price point. Over it does seem to be a nice dock.

The whole top is the power button.
The whole top is the power button. Try to plug in a connector, touch the top, and it shuts down the PC. Try to move it, touch the top, and it shuts down the PC. It has an odd layout of ports. Link cable and USB 3 on the front. USB and headphone on the right side. As expected all the monitor connections and power plug is on the back. It may be OK if your laptop is on the left and your monitors are on your right. I have the opposite and is is very odd. I plan to build a 3D printed cover to prevent accidental pressing of the top

Excellent and reliable
Much more reliable than the 'HP ZBook Dock with Thunderbolt 3' docking station, with that dock I was regularly having issues where the USB keyboard plugged into the dock wouldn't work, other times only one of my external monitors would connect and it would be mirrored with my laptop screen, other times things just didn't work. With this new Thunderbolt Dock G2 I have not had any of those issues. My only complaint is that there are only 3 USB-A ports on the dock compared with the ZBook Dock. While it does have 3 USB-C ports (including the 1 DisplayPort over USB-C port), not all of my devices are USB-C.

Great design, improved reliability
I received this model about a year ago. I had been using the dock that resembled a long ruler which was problematic. This new model has been working great.
The only downside had more to do with HPE shipping delays. I opted for standard shipping expecting 4-5 days. But took over a week to receive.

Not usable for professionals
Dock hangs frequently: Either no display after start up, or no network/ USB at the dock. I spend every day up to one hour, to keep the system running somehow. I was using a ZBook G2 with an old school docking station (hardware bus connector) w/o any problems for 5 years (10000 op. hours) and also with the same 4 screens (1920x1200) via display port. Now, with an high end ZBook 17 G6 (best performance, no problems when I use it w/o dock) too many troubles with this thunderbolt dock. Sorry HP, completely failed. The best mobile workstation does not help w/o proper docking station (as far as I now there is no better dock available from HP).

Fickle & Poorly Designed
This thing is a serious disappointment for a $350 device. First, the combo cable is so thick (and permanently attached) that cable management is impossible. When plugged into my laptop, if the cable is even lightly touched it will disconnect. Firmware and driver updates are a necessity every few months and this is not a streamlined process. The only successful method for my setup is to manually download each update from HP's support site.

Powerful and simply works with ZBooks
Great experience with this so far. I have an older ZBook G3 and newer ZBook G7. This works flawlessly with both of them. I might not have needed the 230w dock for my G7 though, looks like the USB-C charges it fine as long as I have the display turned off (I have it connected to 49" Super Ultrawide Monitor but use two DisplayPort connectors). I read people complaining about the top of this dock acting as a power button, and accidently turning their computer off. I absolutely love this feature, I leave my ZBook closed most of the time, and it was annoying having to open it to turn it on, now I don't have to.

I've submitted a few reviews on HP for this - they keep deleting them.
Awful "dock" - cannot remember what window is on what monitor is after hibernation. Often fails to provide power (don't touch that connector!). Needs regular power-cycling or hibernation fails, as does screen locking (it forgets...). Ethernet connection is unreliable at times.
Not recommended in any way.

Nice design, but teething and DP issues
Our office ordered 18 of these. In the beginning, we had old firmware and there were many display issues, black screen, disconnect and reconnect to fix it. Then months later we installed the updated firmware and those issues were resolved. Fast forward a year and one of the Displayports decided to stop working. Fast forward another year and neither work now.

Beautifully constructed and useless to me
First understand that I really like HP and have purchased their products in the past. Sadly, this experience with HP was mixed at best. My initial delivery date was a few weeks which was fine. Send suddenly became 3 months which is a very long time. Had to go with a competitor who could deliver within a few weeks who even got it to me sooner. The machine I ordered was top-of-the-line very expensive and they have lost out on that order. Now for the good part: when you can get to customer service they are very good. However you will wait on the phone a long time a very long time so be prepared to leave your phone on speaker and go about your business. This last thing is pending and may end up good or bad. I was given the wrong information on my very expensive Thunderbolt dock that made me think I could use it on another brand of computer. Its configuration makes it non-compatible with anything but HP. Now I must get a refund for that as well as the computer. Final bit of good news, the very expensive refund came through quickly and without a problem. I appreciate that. What do we learn from all this? Do not place an order unless you understand how long it really will take to get it. Also understand that if it's a laptop at least right now (as of 2021) you are at the mercy of an HP Factory in China. If they don't have the part you don't get the part and you will have to wait. Ask questions make sure you know what you're doing. But again, as difficult as it was to find when I was able to get a living breathing person on the phone they handle things quickly.

Versatile docking station that needs work
Purchased this docking station for a HP ZBook work laptop to use at home. Lots of useful devices can be attached. But those devices need to work properly with the docking station. I have two late model HP 24inch monitors at home that are connected to this docking station. They have the annoying habit of going off-line, completely dark and disconnected from the laptop. No amount of clicking the mouse or hitting keys on the keyboard will bring the monitors back online. I have to either remove the laptop from this docking station to be able to continue with my work or shut the laptop down and reboot by holding down the on button on the docking station until the docking station hard shuts down the laptop. This is a ridiculous outcome. No amount of updates from HP have fixed this issue. Its a flawed device. My company's Tech Support warned me now to buy the docking station on my own because of finicky this docking station is in their experience. Shame on HP for putting out such an inconsistent and flawed device that won't even work with their own monitors, HP doesn't off an alternative docking station for my laptop that can support 2 monitors, so I am stuck.

Powerful and easy to use.
With the move to work from home during these pandemic times, I needed a powerful, small docking station that could accommodate my 2 monitors, keyboard, mouse, external drive, and so on. This unit takes up very little space on my desk, and is powerful enough for my ZBook (which I also LOVE!). It accommodates all of my accessories and then some, and was extremely easy to set up. I love it!

Perfect fit for my Zbook
I struggled with some high quality 3rd party thunderbolt docks that couldn't supply my Zbook G5 X360 with enough power on its own without the normal power cord, and frequently needed upgraded drivers and had issues accessing the dock's extra ports. With this, and the combo cable, I plug it in and it's done. Fantastic quality, very happy with this.

HP released its last good docking station in 2013
Every docking station that HP has released with a Thunderbolt "combo cable" has been overpriced garbage, and this model is no exception. The cable that connects to the computer is too short and not replaceable. The top of the docking station is one big power button, so you WILL accidentally turn the computer off as you connect or disconnect peripherals. But the biggest problem is that they just don't work dependably. I have lost countless hours trying to get them to function properly. Good luck if you want to update the firmware; the updater won't be able to detect the docking station. And it's a 230 W docking station, so you won't find a third-party replacement that doesn't also require you to also connect an AC adapter.

Poor engineering
$2000 spectre x350 15”, $300 for a dock, and HP engineers made a cable stop 1” too short to properly address the strain? Either lazy engineering, planned damage to force re-purchases, or their 360 design team dell down on the job.

Most Beneficial Addition to your HP Home Office!
Awesome docking station! This paired with the additional speaker is wonderful for linking my new HP Spectre Laptop to 2 monitors. The huge benefit of this dock, it increased my ethernet speed from the router from 400Mbps to 900Mbps just by switching to this docking station. The added speaker turns the docking station to Skype phone, Teams, and Webex conference capable. It was a huge bonus during my online college class!

Please fire whoever was involved in designing this in such a way that merely touching the top of it kills power to the entire system. Which of course is the first thing you do when connecting anything to it. Just try connecting a VGA cable without crashing the thing. Reinforces my comittment to never purchase an HP product (we have to use these at work).

Causes 100% CPU Usage
I love it when it works properly, but that is the problem, it doesn't. It causes my zbook to run at 100% CPU utilization, slowing down everything else, then HP support tries to apply an update which causes the blue screen of death over and over again. I've opened multiple helpdesk cases and they don't help in the least bit. I expected more out of a $4,000 laptop purchase...

Miserable product, avoid at all costs!
I would avoid this model at all costs. I purchased it for my wife's new HP laptop and spent months trying to get a simple laptop, dock, 4k monitor, keyboard and mouse config to work correctly. This dock simply has horrific support for 4K monitors, resulting in the fact that the laptop would awaken from sleep and not detect any 4k monitor. As a side note, I am highly tech savvy and rarely have had to deal with such a miserable product.
I tried updating firmware, swapping out monitors, switching from HDMi to DP and vice versa, all to no avail. I swapped monitors and reproduced the same issue with another laptop. HP support was useless and finally responded by informing me that the dock is not supported with my wife's model, an HP Spectre x360! That is the lamest response ever for a dock that claims: "supports both HP and non-HP Thunderbolt™ and USB-C™ notebooks."
Of course when I finally got around to digging into the details and I discovered the litany of complaints by users that had run into the exact same situation and received the same lame response, it was too late to return the dock.

Doesn't bring hdmi monitor back from sleep
In a ZBook firefly 15 G8 with LG 38'' HDR 38WN95C-W and Thunderbolt Dock 230W G2 setup (all drivers are up-to-date, was running Windows 10 up to about 6 month ago and Windows 11 since with same result), half the time monitor doesn't get recognised/connects to laptop after laptop comes out of sleep mode. Sometimes removing and reinserting USB-C cable solves the issue; sometimes you also have to unplug thunderbolt from laptop and power down thunderbolt, then reconnect everything; sometimes you have to reboot the laptop altogether. On some occasions monitor resolution drops (in which case only laptop reboot fixes it). No issues when monitor is plugged directly to laptop. To me this means that either ZBook, Thunderbolt or a combination of ZBook and Thunderbolt do not function properly.
I expect much better from products built by HP.

Fantastic Product that! Works great but some ports are too close together for my cables to connect and I needed to go out and buy different ones. Also the combo cable has some pieces that prevent it from being separated too far but this prevents me from plugging in the power cable and the Thunderbolt 3 at the same time due to the width of my laptop and the ports being on opposite sides.

Network and USB pass-through work as expected, but the video drivers are able to see what model monitor is connected but the device never sends an output signal to them.

Doesn't work with HP Omen laptop's
Nice looking dock. Upon receiving, immediately opened the package, and set it up. It wouldn't drive the monitors.
Used the HP Virtual Chat. They couldn't get it to work either. Gave me the number to the HP Commercial Support group. They said this dock falls under their Commercial line and the Omen is a Consumer product line.
I called the Commercial Support team. After about half an hour, they gave up and provided the phone number to the Omen Support team.
Another 45-minutes. The Omen Support agent said he would have to escalate the issue.
Three days later, HP gets back with me that they haven't written drivers for the Thunderbolt 230W G2 docks to work with Omen computers, and they don't know if they ever will.
The Support team at least put a note onto my account about the issue so that I could return it and not be "docked" a restocking fee. I received a complete refund.
Each department at least gave me the phone # of other departments and they followed up with me.

I work in an engineering company where they have leasing contract with HP and by using a new computer with this docking station I have lost all my freaking hair already. There comes 1-3 disruptions in every week because of connectivity failure which lead losing the hours of unsaved work. Failure can occur when I slightly touch power cable which goes under my table where power is divided to my monitors and docking stations or my colleague will just slightly lean to my table to watch already did work. I wan't to believe these business rated ultrabooks are well done but docking stations is full of garbage.

Decent but expensive and ugly
I bought this almost 3 months ago and set it up. It was a bit of a pain to get all the drivers & firmware updates done, that being said it has worked fine for me so far using 3 monitors. However, the design could use some work. While a couple of extra USB3 ports would be a nice addition, what is with the power cable coming out the front of it? This takes a decent looking dock and makes it butt ugly. I mean seriously the idea is to hide the cables to make your desk nicer not uglier. So I took 2 stars away for that and 1 star for lack of usb ports.

Whole top power switch should've been a tip off
I needed a dock for my new Z Book, which only has 2 usb3 ports. I need to run two 4k monitors off the laptop, and it works great for that, but none of the 3 usb3 ports on Thnderdock will read any of my devices.
As mentioned above, the entire top is the on/off switch. If you're in an environment like mine, with people around, things being moved about, or just trying to hold it still while plugging or unplugging devices, it's so sensitive you can almost shut it down by looking at it.If all you need is dual monitors and you can keep it out of reach, it works fine.

So far it doesn't work at all (HP escalated, too!)
Have now had this unit to pair with my Zbook 17 G5 so I could run 3 monitors. The dock is a nice small size compared to the old "Advanced Docking Station" for my Zbook 17 G2 - this one still works flawlessly of course. That's about it so far. Cannot get it to work at all or be recognized by the Zbook.
Have spent a LOT of time with escalated tech support so far to no avail. Next attempt will be to swap out the mobo on the Zbook to see if that is the issue or if it is the dock (have already swapped the cords - twice) so it doesn't appear to be those. Have not yet received a new dock either.
Not a very happy camper at the moment. Tech will meet me next week - in another city - to swap out the mobo.

Terrible dock - very flaky
After almost TWO MONTHS of diddling around between me and HP Support, we finally figured out it wasn't my brand new Zbook 17 G5 that was the problem ... it was the G2 230W dock. (20+ hours of wasted time!)
Yes, they finally sent me a new one. It installed instantly and worked...sort of.
I have 3 monitors; never a problem with my old Zbook 17 G2 / "Advanced Docking Station" which could go to sleep, remember where each element was on each monitor, and faithfully bring them back online as they were left in the morning.
Not this dock.
IF it wakes up (can tap the top and maybe it will, or rattle the mouse and maybe it will, or you might have to just restart the whole shebang) everything is usually clustered on Monitor 1 (sometimes also on Monitor 2).
I've tried:
2 x USB-C to HDMI connectors + 1 VGA to VGA
1 x USB-C to HDMI, 1 DP to HDMI and 1 VGA to VGA
2 x DP to HDMI plus 1 VGA
No combination works perfectly. For $350 I expect more.
Oh, did I mention that the audio "hums/buzzes" each time it wakes up?
On the good side, I did manage to hook up the dock to a TV and stream hockey in more-or-less HD (supposedly 4K but who knows?) and enjoyed that. (USB-C to HDMI)
I am one VERY UNHAPPY camper with this dock that I now appear to be stuck with.
(Side note: I published a similar review some time back and it appears to have been taken down.)

Could be significantly improved
There are so many things about this docking station that could have been improved. The "lid" is so sensitive that any movement of the station can turn off the computer. It has a limited number of ports. My previous HP Elitebooks and zBooks used the earlier, much more robust docking station that allowed one simply to slip the laptop onto the station; I predict that the wear-and-tear on putting the connector in and pulling it out will require a Thunderbolt port reinstallation on my laptop. I really cannot recommend it. (Avoid the non-Combo docking station, since it doesn't have a power source.)

Disgruntled from
Wish my Thunderbolt Dock G2 worked.
After a long 1-hour call to HP Support in the Philippines and conversations with a salesperson and a Level 2 “docking specialist”, I purchased a 14-cf1090ca laptop with two 24f 24-inch displays and a Thunderbolt Dock G2 with Combo Cable (plus wireless mouse and keyboard). I was assured that the laptop (which only has one HDMI port) would be able to run the two displays through the Thunderbolt G2. The laptop has a USB Type-C port for the G2, however the G2 has only two DisplayPorts, a VGA port and some USB ports BUT NO HDMI PORTS, while the displays each have one HDMI port and one VGA port.
I checked out each display separately by direct connection to laptop via HDMI and they both work perfectly alone. However, they are not recognized by the laptop when connected via the HDMI/DisplayPort adaptors to the Thunderbolt G2. Both the wireless mouse and keyboard work fine when the Bluetooth dongles are in the USB ports of either the laptop or Thunderbolt. Power and ethernet also work fine through both the laptop and through the Thunderbolt. So, everything works fine from the Thunderbolt through the USB Type-C/power Combo Cable to the laptop EXCEPT FOR THE MONITORS!!!
So, I then called Support and spoke for over 2.5 hours to 6 (six!!!) different people in 3 different sites…in India, California and back to India. I spoke with the frontline, then a Level 1 Tech, then a Level 2 tech, and then another “docking specialist”, and then a couple of “SmartFriends”. I was reassured many times that, yes indeed, these things should work together. I spent as much time on hold over that 2.5 hours as actually speaking with someone. With them, we double-checked my laptop display/graphics driver (did not require updating) and various other configurations…I explained all the troubleshooting I had done on my end already…and that both monitors were functional. That everything worked fine when directly connected to the laptop, but that I could not drive two monitors with DisplayPorts with my laptop, because the laptop has no DisplayPorts, only one HDMI port and two standard USB ports (plus the USB Type-C port). And that this apparently was not working through DP/HDMI adaptors either, despite the advice from HP.
Now, here’s the ultimate insult…after spending about 10 times on hold for about 10-15 minutes each time (where I am sure each HP telephone employee was hoping I would disconnect), and after speaking with 6 (six!!!) different people (they all had names, I have them, I recorded them)…I WAS DISCONNECTED AND NO ONE CALLED ME BACK DESPITE THE FACT THAT MY NAME AND HOME AND MOBILE PHONE NUMBERS ARE CONNECTED TO A CASE NUMBER?!?!?!
Great purchase advice, HP. Great customer service, HP. Great technical support, HP. Please do not take that literally. That is what is called sarcasm.
The Thunderbolt Dock G2 setup manual clearly shows three possible Dock/Display possibilities: VGA/VGA, DisplayPort/DisplayPort, and SuperUSB/DisplayPort or USB or HDMI or VGA (with the appropriate adaptor). But, with the exception of the two DisplayPorts, all would only work with a single monitor. And with the former DisplayPorts, I would need monitors with DisplayPort adaptors.
So, really, I should have been advised to purchase a single large monitor, or two smaller monitors with DisplayPort connections. Because, obviously, the DisplayPort/HDMI adaptors are not being recognized by the laptop through the Thunderbolt G2.
Look, my preference for two monitors was the only reason I bought the Thunderbolt in the first place, because the laptop only has one HDMI port. So, now I have two useless monitors and a useless docking station…
HP, you advised me specifically that this setup would work, and it is your responsibility that I purchased peripherals that do not communicate properly with my laptop.
What am I going to do HP? Tell me…what do I do with your cumulative unproductive and inaccurate advice? What do I do with my wasted time and money? What do I do with all this frustration? I suppose I write this really long letter of dissatisfaction that no one will read.

Dreadful dock
Dock often does not return from hibernating state and fire up the monitors.
(Side note: I published a similar review some time back and it appears to have been taken down. Taken down twice now...I guess HP doesn't really want people to know this?)

1 year later: dock is still a piece of garbage
I've now had this dock for a year. Other than it "works" - some days - it is still plagued with MANY faults.
Today, after being away for a couple of weeks I plugged in my laptop that travelled with me and .... nothing. No network, no monitors, no printing - but the USB apparently worked as my keyboard and mouse worked. Restarted, unplugged etc everything ... zip. In the end I unplugged the dock, opened the laptop, removed the battery and waited a bit. Upon reconnection the dock "remembered" that I had external monitors. Apparently it still doesn't remember that it has an ethernet connection in it though.
I've updated firmware, BIOS, settings etc., but nothing seems to ever actually stay stable. Hibernating the laptop and turning it on in the morning is an adventure every time: which monitor will start, and where will the open windows be?
HP this is disgusting and I am appalled that you sell a piece of garbage for good money to unsuspecting purchasers. If it were worth suing, I would.

Cute little product with some serious shortcomings
Attached cable is too short and not upgradeable according to customer support. The whole top serves as the on off switch, so if you touch or lift it while your computer is on, you shut down with no warning. Has happened 3x in the first 2 days. Needs to be more USB and Thunderbolt ports on this larger box than my G1 had, NOT less. It has much more space. I hope it will not be as flaky and intermittent as was my G1 during the past 2.5 years. Customer service at HP Canada web store was outrageously bad during 4 phone calls I placed. The whole team seems to be a very low performing call center with poor attitudes, poor English and no knowledge without referring to a supervisor all the time.
