Successfully protects from DDoS attacks
What is our primary use case?
We are using DefensePro for protecting our network and infrastructure from DDoS attacks.
How has it helped my organization?
DefensePro is very important for us for protecting our organization against DDoS threats and attacks. We are an ISO 27001-certified company. For compliance purposes, we have implemented DefensePro.
What is most valuable?
I am happy to see that we have not had any DDoS attacks. This solution has successfully protected us from attacks, and no one has been able to attack our network.
DefensePro is able to detect attacks in real-time. It has also helped reduce the number of false positives that our organization receives in response to attacks. We do have some false positives, but their number is low, around 10% to 20%.
DefensePro has definitely helped us reduce downtime associated with attacks.
We were able to see its benefits within three to six months of the deployment.
What needs improvement?
The product is good, but the company could improve its services by appointing customer success managers. This would ensure better interaction with customers and help resolve issues on both customer and supplier ends. Most other security product companies such as Palo Alto and Forcepoint appoint customer success managers to interact with customers and ensure that the product they have purchased is used perfectly. If we are facing any kind of issues in using the product or service, the customer success manager should get things right.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using DefensePro for more than five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have not found any issues with the stability of the solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
DefensePro is quite scalable. Over the last five years, we have increased our infrastructure, and it has been working fine.
How are customer service and support?
The customer service is fine. We have contacted their customer support, and they are satisfactory in terms of quality and responsiveness.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have not used any alternatives to DefensePro.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment was easy. We procured it through our partner. Our partner was able to deploy it perfectly. We did not face any issues in the deployment. It took around three months to fully deploy.
It does not require any maintenance from our side.
What about the implementation team?
Two persons were involved in the implementation process.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is okay, and I do not have any concerns about the price.
To someone who is researching DDoS protection solutions but wants to go with the cheapest solution on the market, I would say that the product protection comes first and the cost comes second.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We have not evaluated any other solutions.
What other advice do I have?
Now that DefensePro is available on the cloud, my advice would be to consider cloud adoption while implementing the solution.
I would rate DefensePro a ten out of ten. It is a good product.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Very good DDoS protection, responsive support, and detects attacks in real-time
What is our primary use case?
Our company is an ISP. We provide DDoS protection services ourselves. We need the technical means to be able to provide such services. We have DefensePro in our facilities through which we provide protection services to our clients.
How has it helped my organization?
Radware Defense Pro is an excellent solution for our customers as it works in blind mode. That, and the licensing model, is more attractive for the customer since the license is based on the capacity of clean traffic, not the combined traffic. If an attack is around 30 gigabits, you can still go on with your license of four gigabits due to the clean and legitimate traffic not exceeding four gigabits.
What is most valuable?
It's very good at protecting users from DDoS attacks. It's the leader in this domain.
In our use case, we do not use encryption or decryption. We simply defend against general types of DDoS attacks, like TCP SIM or DNS flood attacks. With Radware, we can defend against many types of attacks.
Radware consists of a so-called security profile. Each profile is just like an engine, and the engines check if that packet is valid or invalid. If it's invalid, it just gets dropped immediately and doesn't go for checking to another engine. But if it's okay, then another engine checks if it belongs to a scanning attack or it's a behavior-based attack. It helps decide whether something is malicious or not.
DefensePro is very effective at detecting attacks in real-time. From our experience, it's quite effective equipment. The main goal during the attack is just to protect the host and the customer's facility. So in this way, it is quite effective. We also have NetScout in our facilities, so we can compare them with each other.
Our goal is to analyze the attack after attack and try to improve our ability to minimize the false positives. It's helped us.
We've been able to reduce downtime associated with attacks. During an attack, Radware DefensePro drops the malicious traffic. Sometimes it is very effective, and sometimes it is not as effective. However, without this, the very first attack against the customer would just pull everything down. Now that we have this equipment in place providing protection, the customer can continue to work. Maybe the performance would suffer a little bit; however, at least they can continue to work. We have small attacks happening every day against our customers, so having protection is critical.
What needs improvement?
The APSolute Vision feature needs improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for around five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We do have problems with stability when it comes to APSolute Vision. It seems to have been written using Docker and it's quite complicated. We don't know much about the internal infrastructure. Sometimes, it just doesn't let you log in or it displays configuration errors. I'd rate the stability eight out of ten overall.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have around 30 end users. However, we do have the solution for our end customers, which are enterprises.
We haven't had a chance to test the scalability. That said, by design, scalability is built into the design of the solution. You can install multiple DefensePros and they can be controlled and monitored from one single APSolute Vision station. They have switched to a newer platform, and I don't have experience with that controller just yet. My impression is they fixed a lot of issues people found with APSolute Vision when building the new controller.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is among the best. If you open a ticket, they respond immediately and they are very helpful. They ask to give control so the support engineer can fix things himself. It's great.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I'm also familiar with Arbor. It's another leader in the domain.
We used Jupiter for some time. Radware receives regular updates of threats, however, Jupiter did not have that capability. It worked mainly with behavior-based attacks. Both Radware and Arbor also have behavior-based attack protections and zero-day attacks, plus they both have subscription services and centers of knowledge that periodically send you updates on the latest attacks and on malicious hosts.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was complex. You hear documentation is quite good, however, it's really just a field of knowledge. It's just not enough to understand how to configure things or how to click and choose another profile.
You need to know the nature of DDoS attacks and many, many intricate things about DDoS attacks to be able to configure the box comprehensively. This is the biggest challenge. It's unlike, for example, if you have to deal with routing equipment. Everything looks straightforward, and everything is predictable. This domain, it's much more complex due to the nature of the sync of the DDoS attack. Even for us, now, five years later, we still don't know everything. The field is very complex.
There is continuous maintenance needed from our side. We have four people who handle maintenance tasks.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The product is very expensive, as is Arbor.
What other advice do I have?
We still have the older model of DefensePro without X. Instead of the cyber controller, we have their older monitoring solution, APSolute Vision. My understanding is that the cyber controller took away some of the deficiencies of APSolute Vision.
I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. It has some issues, however, Radware alongside Arbor are two of the best solutions.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

100% availability, good dashboards, and ease of operations
What is our primary use case?
We are a data center and cloud service provider. We are providing this as a service model to our customers. We are taking services and selling them to our customers. We will continue to provide services in consultation with the Radware team.
How has it helped my organization?
Security is the most important benefit. In security services, we need to get proactive information. After implementing Radware DefensePro, we have a dashboard, and we can do proactive detection. It helps us to be reactive as well as proactive to protect the customers.
Radware DefensePro provides a single dashboard for our operations team and the admin team. It is very convenient. All the information is available in a single place.
As a service provider, we are using the Radware SecOps dashboard as per our customer's requirements. It is always customized.
The Radware SecOps dashboard is quite useful. It is generally used by my team. I am not using it directly. My team uses it for day-to-day operations.
The Radware SecOps dashboard is easy to use. The interface is very user-friendly. This is the feedback that I am getting from my team.
Radware DefensePro is very useful for protecting our organization against DDoS threats and attacks. We evaluated it against a lot of its competitors and finalized it. It is definitely useful, and it serves the purpose.
We are serving the BFSI customers. There are also a lot of trading companies. We are able to meet the compliance requirements for the Internet traffic given by the Reserve Bank of India and SEBI.
Radware DefensePro is able to detect attacks in real-time. It does the detection and provides alerts in real-time as well. The action is something we need to take. My team has not reported any false negatives given by Radware DefensePro.
The proactive information and the dashboard of Radware DefensePro definitely give us comfort. It also helps me with online reporting for my customers, which is not in real-time, but whenever a customer asks for a report, we share the report with the customer.
Radware DefensePro has not helped us reduce downtime associated with attacks because we did not have any downtime previously. We have been lucky. The downtime was not there at all, but it is helping to maintain our uptime. We are able to maintain that now.
What is most valuable?
The dashboard is the best part, and there is also the ease of operations.
What needs improvement?
As a service provider, we are expecting the multi-tenancy feature on the dashboard and reporting side. It will help share reports with customers in real-time. They can directly see them online. We are working with their team on API integration with our portal. We will be able to achieve that, but it will take some time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Radware DefensePro for the last 4 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There were a few errors that we observed earlier, but their team was very proactive. During a PoC with one of the customers, we faced a lot of challenges, but their team was very proactive. It is a technology, so there will always be some challenges. We understand that, and any technical person will also understand it. How they are reacting to a situation is much more important and the support that they provide is much more important. I would rate it a 9 out of 10 for stability.
We have not faced any challenges with the service availability of Radware DefensePro. There is a 100% availability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. Currently, we are giving it to small and medium organizations, and not to enterprises, because generally, enterprises have their own dedicated solution, and they have their own management team. We act as a reseller with them, not as a service provider. We have plans to increase its usage.
We have a 24/7 shift, and our SOC team comprises 45 people.
How are customer service and support?
We have not had any bad experiences, but there is always scope for improvement. That is the reason I would rate them a nine out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
In our environment, we are not using any other vendor. Our team and the Radware team work hand in hand. We have got one more big order. We are jointly working, so there is no question of selling any other solutions. We are partners. The CEO of Radware India is also a good friend of our CEO. There is also a personal connection there. We are not seeing anything where any other product will be involved.
How was the initial setup?
It is deployed on-premises in our environment, but we are selling it as a cloud to the customer.
Its deployment was a little bit complex because we did not have in-house expertise. The Radware team and their partner helped us to deploy it. The next deployment will be easy for us because we understand the technology now. The first time deployment was a little bit tedious for us because we did not have the knowledge of the product. In terms of duration, it took a couple of weeks after delivery.
We have not had many problems after the implementation because we had the support of their team.
There is maintenance from the upgrade point of view. Otherwise, there is no maintenance.
What was our ROI?
Investment in a security product is like an investment in insurance. It always seems costly, but when you face a problem, you see the value of it. Security services are always like that. Cost is one factor, and security is another major factor. You should know what you are protecting. Putting the cheapest solution may or may not put you in trouble, but when you are in trouble, nobody will be able to save you.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is expensive. I would rate it a 7 out of 10 for pricing.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend Radware DefensePro. We are a Radware partner, and we work jointly on any government or non-government RFPs.
We use load balancers and some of the other products from Radware. We use Alteon.
I would rate Radware DefensePro a 9 out of 10. We have not faced any challenges as such. It has protected us and our customers.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Helps detect attacks in real-time, and is stable, but the cloud scrubbing capabilities need improvement
What is our primary use case?
We are a mobile-based Internet banking organization in Southeast Asia. Our main product is actually, sending money from one place to another place through my application. So we need to be available over the Internet all the time. So if my application goes down, my business will go down. We use Radware DefensePro to protect our on-premises network hardware.
How has it helped my organization?
While Radware DefensePro offers protection against DNS attacks and IoT botnets, our limited use of internet-exposed IoT devices on-premises hinders our ability to fully test its capabilities in this context.
Radware DefensePro is capable of detecting attacks in real time. If a scan is detected from outside our network DefensPro will block it immediately.
What needs improvement?
Radware DefensePro can defend against Layer 3 and Layer 4 DDoS attacks but it is not capable of protecting against Layer 7 attacks.
Radware DefensePro suffers from a high false positive rate of 25 percent and occasionally blocks legitimate traffic, requiring manual unblocking. Additionally, it has been known to miss some threats.
We have not seen a reduction in downtime associated with attacks by using DefensePro.
Radware DefensePro needs to improve its cloud scrubbing capabilities. We have discontinued their cloud services due to poor performance.
The inability to access local technical support during our business hours poses a significant inconvenience. This necessitates extra devices for continuous operation until we can speak to their support. We would appreciate the availability of a team within our time zone for optimal service.
For how long have I used the solution?
I am currently using Radware DefensePro.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability of Radware DefensePro an eight out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
I am dissatisfied with the technical support offered. The lack of a local team available during our business hours presents a significant challenge for our operations.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
While Radware DefensePro serves us well as the best on-prem solution currently available, its full range of security features falls short of our needs. We believe a hybrid or long-term solution is necessary, and unfortunately, DefensePro is not keeping pace. Hence, we adopted Cloudflare's solution a year and a half ago. However, after three years with their regular product, we discontinued their Discovery Center due to its niche nature and switched to Cloudflare's Discovery solution. Our present challenge lies in the integration issue between our on-prem hardware and Cloudflare. Lacking an on-prem solution themselves, Cloudflare cannot resolve this directly. This incompatibility currently represents our primary obstacle.
What about the implementation team?
The implementation was completed by Radware DefensePro's partner, NHQ. They deployed the solution quickly without any issues.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Radware DefensePro is expensive when considering the issue we have and its limitations.
We pay for an annual license and also for the support service.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Radware DefensePro a seven out of ten.
Radware DefensePro is one of the best solutions for on-premise protection.
We have a team of four people in my cybersecurity operations team who are responsible for the maintenance of Radware DefensePro.
While Radware DefensePro offers good service availability from a failover perspective, it only covers 90 percent of my DDoS protection needs.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Plays a vital role in safeguarding our network by protecting us from DDoS threats and attacks
What is our primary use case?
One of our customers utilizes Radware DefensePro as their DDoS mitigation solution.
How has it helped my organization?
Radware DefensePro plays a vital role in safeguarding our network by protecting us from DDoS threats and attacks. It acts as the first line of defense, meticulously tracking incoming traffic to our website. This traffic is then passed to flow detectors within DefensePro's various defense flows, where it's rigorously checked and mitigated if necessary.
It's important for our compliance and privacy requirements that DefensePro doesn't decrypt our traffic or require we share certificates.
I would rate DefensePro's ability to detect DDoS attacks in real-time a nine out of ten.
DefensePro has reduced the number of false positives by 100 percent.
DefensePro has reduced downtime associated with attacks by 100 percent.
What is most valuable?
Radware DefensePro's most valuable feature lies in its ability to mitigate non-traffic attacks. This allows for clear visibility into natural packet flow and the packet filters are automatically applied to routers whenever suspicious behavior is detected.
What needs improvement?
We've been encountering a lack of updates in DefensePro. Currently, we're facing numerous bugs within our data solution. These bugs are impacting the failover process, and we're observing repeated crashes of the Elasticsearch container across various workflows.
There's room for improvement in the clarity of the feedback provided by the command service in the CLI. Specifically, the messages it gives when something happens to Docker containers could be more informative. For example, it might simply state that container states have changed, or it might mention the directory paths where container data is saved, but these messages don't provide enough detail. To access the files, users currently need to navigate through a complex directory structure, which isn't very user-friendly.
There is a need for more informative release notes. The current ones lack detail about what's included in the updates and what fixes have been implemented. This makes it difficult for users to understand the changes and how they might affect the experience.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Radware DefensePro for six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability of Radware DefensePro ten out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate the scalability of Radware DefensePro nine out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support is great.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Radware DefensePro is a bit on the expensive side.
While researching DDoS solutions and looking for the most affordable option, I'd recommend considering Radware DefensePro even though it might not be the cheapest because opting for the absolute cheapest solution can come with a lot of drawbacks. These budget options often have security vulnerabilities and hidden weaknesses that could leave networks more exposed during an attack. DefensePro offers additional features and stronger overall network protection, making it a more secure choice in the long run.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Radware DefensePro ten out of ten.
We have 226 firewalls and around 78 routers that are all protected by DefensePro.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Regular signature update with good reporting and analytics
What is our primary use case?
Opting for a solution like Radware DefensePro is a strategic move for our telecom company, especially considering the critical nature of our subscriber self-care portal and the potential impact on the organization's image and the country as a whole.
Radware DefensePro is renowned for its advanced DDoS mitigation capabilities and has significantly enhanced the security posture of our infrastructure.
As a public sector unit, the stakes are high, and DefensePro's ability to handle sophisticated attacks provides an added layer of confidence. Its scalability ensures that our telecom infrastructure can adapt to changing traffic patterns and evolving threat landscapes.
How has it helped my organization?
DefensePro offers a multi-layered defense mechanism, combining behavioral analysis, signature detection, and real-time threat intelligence to identify and neutralize DDoS attacks promptly. Its adaptive nature allows it to evolve with emerging threats, ensuring that our self-care portal is shielded against the latest attack vectors.
The solution's granular traffic inspection capabilities enable it to differentiate between legitimate and malicious traffic, preventing service disruptions caused by volumetric, protocol, or application-layer DDoS attacks. This not only safeguards our portal but also contributes to maintaining the promised 100% uptime.
What is most valuable?
The solution has many valuable features, including a regular signature update. Radware is providing regular signature updates for the DefensePro solution, thus our organization is better equipped to handle any new threat vectors.
The solution's reporting and analytics features are quite useful. It offers valuable insights into ongoing and past attacks, aiding in post-incident analysis and continuous improvement of our cybersecurity strategy. This proactive approach aligns with the need to not only mitigate threats but also to learn from and refine our security posture over time.
What needs improvement?
They need to provide more granular control over security policies, allowing organizations to tailor configurations based on their specific needs and risk profiles. There is a restriction on the number of policies that can be defined. That count may be increased further to create more specific policies
They should integrate automated incident response capabilities to streamline the mitigation process and reduce response times during attacks.
It would be ideal if they could expand protocol support to cover emerging communication standards and ensure comprehensive protection against diverse attack vectors.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for the last 11 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is an issue. It can be made more scalable by considering the growing DDoS attacks and web services.

We've always received support when needed.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I did not use a different solution.
How was the initial setup?
It was a straightforward setup. We had no hiccups.
What about the implementation team?
Implementation was through the vendor team. I would rate them nine on a scale of one to ten where one is the worst and ten is best.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is a good option for those who are looking for on-premises protection against DDoS attacks.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
