Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bitlocker Hardware Encryption fails on 990Pro 4 TB I have been trying for days to get the 990Pro 4 TB drive to use Bitlocker Hardware encryption like all my previous Samsung SSD drives. Samsung support told me there is no firmware upgrade for the 4TB model; I've reset the PSID using sedutil, enabled encryption ready using Magician; used Samsung UEFI boot USB to run latest SecureErase. Installed a completely clean Win10 system. Using Lenovo P16 Gen 1 Laptop with all Bios Updates. Set all the group policy settings to allow hardware encryption for system drives using TPM. Tried not restricting the AES 128 or 256 encryption types, no joy there. We are using massive amounts of medical data that must be encrypted by company policy, and we want the hardware encryption for speed. If this works, we will buy a lot for our Philips R&D group, but so far I haven't found anyone who had hardware encrypted the 990Pro 4 TB... Samsung: publish a set of working steps we can follow if you continue to claim the drive support Opal encryption.

Especially not needing to manage space for any of my games, files, etc. After using this as a boot drive and once Windows 11 has its way with it, you get little over 3.6 TB left, which is plenty for other stuff.. IF YOU CRAVE PERFORMANCE, A MUST HAVE IMHO!!!!

You can use Samsung Magician to transfer files from your old drive, however I elected to keep my OS and non game apps on the original 1TB drive and just use the 990 Pro for games, virtual machines, etc.

The cost was a bit more expensive than others but I am familiar with the quality (durability and speed) of Samsung HDD so figured I'd try their high-end SSD line. No complaints in my (almost) three months of usage. As of now I can encourage this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great drive a little buggy firmware and software Well I'm only using this in a PCI Express 3.0 interface, it still is blazing fast performance even when dealing with hundreds of gigs of data and any SLC buffer would be exceeded and yet it's still performs exceedingly well. The only thing that really annoys me is that there's no way to enable hardware encryption without a full fresh reinstall of Windows which I rather not do. Also had a bug with a software with it not wanting to over provision automatically or show my partitions.

I purchased a Samsung 990 Pro SSD directly from their official website, expecting to receive a high-quality product. Instead, I was sent a counterfeit SSD! After noticing extremely slow transfer speeds (only 19 MB/s on a drive that should handle thousands), I contacted Samsung support. Their technician confirmed the worst—the SSD I received was fake! I trusted Samsung to deliver a legitimate product, especially when buying directly from their website, but this is completely unacceptable. This experience has shattered my confidence in Samsung. I’ve wasted valuable time troubleshooting, speaking to support, and now I have to go through the hassle of returning the product. I’m left questioning how such a reputable company could allow counterfeit products to slip through their own sales channels. I expected far better from Samsung. I hope they investigate and resolve this issue, but the damage to my trust in their brand is already done. I urge others to be cautious when buying from Samsung’s site. I never imagined I’d be dealing with fake products from the source. I’ll be taking this matter further if it isn’t resolved soon. Very disappointed.

I've had everything from mechanical hard drives to 2.5 inch SSD's, to M.2 and everything in between plus samsung SD cards, ram, phones, tablets, watches and much more. To be honest, I have never really had any issues with any of their products and no, they do not pay me to say this. As far as I'm concerned, a warranty is only as good as the product, and i've never had to use the warranty for anything samsung related. In the end it's up to you, but if you want a superior product with a great history, you can't go wrong with any of their products here.

I have not had any crashes since installing it over a year ago. Real fast and reliable speeds and this is not a paid advertisement. It just works. I do art and music and no issues. Only issue I have is if samsung could make a 8TB so I would be set for years to come. Hopefully dreams come true.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No customer service and no support I purchased multiple drives including two (2) 4tb 990 Pro drives for a mobile workstation direct from Samsung's website. I installed them last week to find that one drive did not work at all and one drive was showing up as a 980 500gb in BIOS, Diskmanager and Samsung Magician. Contacted Samsung for support. Spent 3 days trying to resolve speaking to multiple people including being passed to the same people multiple times (tech support, sales and warranty). Each department said there was nothing they could do. Sales wouldn't help because the drives had been purchased more than 14 days ago. Tech support said to talk to sales. Sales says to talk with Warranty, but warranty cannot help because they say the drives are fraudulent even though they came in sealed boxes by Fedex, from Samsung with labels on the drives and packaing that match. No customer service and I am out funds and drives. I do not recommend purchasing from Samsung or their drives.

Ok, I understand why it makes economic sense to source manufacturing of low to mid tier products to countries with lower wages, looser QA and less developed manufacturing culture in general. But guys, this is your flagship SSD that costs hundreds of dollars! You are shooting yourself in the foot trying to save a few bucks. But now you have an idea why these SSDs are always on sale and why Samsung is asking $300-330 for them instead of $450.
